2024 FANON WIKI AWARD NOMINEE!
This article was nominated for Best Album at the 2024 Fanon Wiki Awards!

XOXO is the sixth studio album by American singer Peyton List, released on May 1, 2026 through Republic Records, being her first release under the record label. List began work on the project in late 2025, following the conclusion of her promotional tour for her previous album, Sunsets. The album was largely inspired by music of the 1960s, the aesthetic of which is reflected in the cover artwork, particularly artists such as Peggy Lee, Ella Fitzgerald, and country singer Patsy Cline. As a result, it is primarily a pop album with elements of folk-pop, country and storytelling, while themed around a "simpler time, and a very straightforward depiction of love", according to List. She worked closely with American blues and R&B band The California Honeydrops to write and produce the album, and wrote alongside American singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo.

The album spawned four singles, two of which were released prior to the album: The lead single, "Sugar Town", was released on January 1, 2026. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 and became List's first chart-topper in the United States. The second single, "Please Be Kind" was released on March 27, 2026 and peaked at number four on the Hot 100 chart. "To Love A Lover" impacted contemporary hit radio on May 5, 2026 as the third single from XOXO, and scored List her second number one single on the Hot 100, whereas "Ex-Love of Your Life" was released as the fourth single on June 2, 2026 and reached number nine. "Satin Doll" was released as the fifth single on August 11, 2026 and peaked at number 17 in the United States. A deluxe version of the album was released on November 13, 2026, featuring ten additional songs, all of which were themed around the holiday season.

Upon its release, XOXO received universal acclaim from music critics, many of whom praised its production, lyrical content, and unique sound. The album was included in several year-end best music lists by publications. XOXO debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 379,000 album-equivalent units (101,000 pure sales), including 414.4 million on-demand streams, marking List's third album to top the chart. To promote the album, List embarked on the Satin Doll Tour in August 2026.

Release[]

List unveiled the tracklist of XOXO between March 29 and April 17, 2026, posting instrumental snippets of each song individually upon announcing the title.

Singles[]

"Sugar Town" was released as the album's lead single on January 1, 2026. Fans were alerted of the single's release one day prior to its release, when List's online store was updated to include merchadise celebrating the new year. A limited edition 7-inch vinyl record was also made available alongside the new merchadise, though details regarding a release date, title, and cover artwork were not yet made public. The song was formally announced through social media mere hours later, and was released the following day. "Sugar Town" debuted at number 100 on the US Billboard Hot 100 after just twelve hours of tracking and received unanimous praise from music critics, with specific praise given to its interpolation of Nancy Sinatra's 1966 song of the same name. In its second week, the song ascended to number one, becoming List's first number one song on the Hot 100 and her highest-charting single in the US, surpassing the number two peaks of "Grace" and "Easy". The single broke the record for the biggest single-week jump in the Hot 100 chart's history, ascending 99 spots to number one.

During an interview with Billboard in January 2026, List revealed she had selected a song entitled "Please Be Kind" as the second single from XOXO. She began to tease the release of the song on February 14, 2026, posting a video to her Instagram account in which she performed an acoustic rendition of the track. "Please Be Kind" was made available for pre-save on March 13, 2026 and, similar to "Sugar Town", was also available to order in several formats, including a limited edition 7-inch colored vinyl and a colored cassette tape, both of which featured the full acoustic performance that List had previously uploaded to her social media, being referred to as a demo version. The song debuted at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with 14,000 copies sold, topping the Digital Songs chart. Upon the release of XOXO, the song reached a new peak of number four on the Hot 100 chart.

"To Love A Lover" was released on April 30, 2026 as the third single from XOXO, twelve hours prior to the release of the album. As a result, the song debuted at number 91 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and soared to the top spot the following week, becoming List's second number one song on the Hot 100. On the chart dated May 16, 2026, List occupied five of the top ten spots on the Hot 100 chart, placing "To Love A Lover" at number one, "Please Be Kind" at number four, "Sugar Town" at number five, "The American Dream" at number seven, and "Under The Old Moon" at number ten. "To Love A Lover" was serviced to contemporary hit radio on May 5, 2026 and reached number one on the US Mainstream Top 40, becoming the second song from XOXO to do so. Described as an "dreamy, lovelorn ballad", the lyrics detail List's infatuation with a married man, sparking a debate across social media where fans dissected the lyrics and opined that the subject of the song could be Dylan Sprouse, whom List had previously dated in 2017 and remained close with prior to his marriage in 2023. List later denied these rumors, stating that the lyrics were "entirely based in fiction". List performed the song for the first time on May 2, 2026, along with "Sugar Town", on Saturday Night Live. Several versions were released to further promote the single, including an instrumental version on May 3, 2026 which was exclusive to List's website. A piano version was released on May 22, 2026, followed by an acapella version on May 29, 2026 which featured List's raw vocals, and an orchestral version on June 5, 2026. A 7-inch vinyl, compiling the original and orchestral versions was released exclusively to Urban Outfitters later that same year.

Following the release of XOXO, the seventeenth track "Ex-Love of Your Life" received attention across several platforms, as fans began to speculate that the song referred to List's Cobra Kai co-star and rumored ex-boyfriend Tanner Buchanan. A particular lyric in the song, in which List says "Snake skin / Red lips / Don't think you two are gonna make it" was theorised to be referring to Buchanan's then-girlfriend, fellow singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter. Due to the virality of the track, it impacted contemporary hit radio in the US on June 2, 2026. The song had previously debuted at number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated May 16, 2026 and soared from number 89 to number 65 on the chart dated June 20, 2026 upon receiving airplay. Supported by the release of an acoustic version on July 24, 2026, the single reached a peak of number nine on the Hot 100, becoming the sixth Top 10 hit from XOXO. Several publications suggested the lyrics of "Lifetime", a song released by Sabrina Carpenter later that same year, was aimed as a diss track towards List.

"Satin Doll" was announced to be the fifth single from XOXO through a press release in July 2026. Upon embarking on her Satin Doll Tour in August 2026, the eponymous song was serviced to contemporary hit radio on August 11, 2026. On the Billboard Hot 100 chart dated May 16, 2026, the song appeared at number 63 before departing the following week. Following the commencement of the tour on August 7, the song re-entered the Hot 100 at number 93. Billboard reported that on-demand streams had increased 147% compared to the we ek prior, whereas digital sales had tripled. A music video was released in September to promote the single, showcasing List as a doll being played with, or manipulated, by a faceless partner. List released a live version of the song, taken from her performance at Madison Square Garden during her tour, on October 2, 2026. "Satin Doll" received strong airplay, reaching number one on the US Mainstream Top 40 chart, and peaking at number seventeen on the Hot 100 chart. Thus, the song became the eleventh track from XOXO to chart within the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. A 7-inch vinyl was made available exclusively at Walmart, featuring both the original and live versions of the single.

Promotional singles[]

"The American Dream" was released as a promotional single on April 24, 2026. The song debuted at number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, receiving airplay and debuting at number 33 on the US Mainstream Top 40 chart despite not being issued as an official single. The following week, due to the release of its parent album, the track climbed six spots to number seven.

Following the release of An XOXO Christmas, "Candy Cane Lane" received airplay on adult contemporary radio stations across the United States. The song debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, later peaking at number 57, and peaked atop the US Adult Contemporary chart in December 2026. "The One Place To Be Christmas Eve", featuring American singer-songwriter Zach Bryan, was promoted with the release of a music video on November 30, 2027.
