The western running dylanus (Dylanus velociraptorotherius) is an extinct Pleistocene species of dylanus that lived in the swamps, marshlands, forests, and grasslands of California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Texas. As its name suggests, its body plan was built very much like a modern Florida running dylanus and had eye sockets that were almost the same size as that of Florida running dylanuses, suggesting that they had a similar lifestyle to modern Florida running dylanuses. The western running dylanuses were most likely omnivorous and may have fed on fruits, leaves, smaller non-poisonous animals, and carrion. It is thought that the western running dylanus had became extinct due to climate change at the end of the last Ice Age causing their habitats being lost to drier habitats like deserts.
