Diacritics:

A ũ following a consonant is not a vowel, it indicates a voiced labiovelar fricative (ʷ) consonant, a w-sound.

Ĵ/ĵ = y-sound, must be accompanied by a vowel before or after it; sound is "/ɪ̯/" in the former case and "/j/" in the latter case.

An apostrophe/single-right-quotation-mark/avagraha ( ’/ऽ ) indicates a glottal stop ⟨ʔ⟩.

Special consonants

  • single character consonants
    • Ç/ç, Ş/ş, Þ/þ, Ź/ź
  • digraph consonants
    • dj, dĵ, hĵ, kĵ, nd, ng, sc, sz, tz

CVC syllables

  • syllable-beginner consonants; ç, d, dĵ, f, g, h, hĵ, j, ĵ, k, kĵ, s, sc, sz, ş, t, tz, ź
    • Vowels: a, e, é, i, ì, o, ò, u, ū
  • syllable-ender consonants; d, f, k, l, n, nd, ng, r, t, þ, z

Other rules:

Gender-forming words prefix a word.

Word structure rules:

  • Syllables after glottal stops remain part of the word, but the word structuring begins anew.
    • suffixes are always separated from the main word by a glottal stop.
  • Words with a glottal stop are no longer than 5 syllables.
    • Maximum length of any word.
    • A glottal stop is no later than 3 syllables in words with one.
  • Words without a glottal stop are no longer than 4 syllables
    • Applies mostly to straight CVs.
  • There are no more than 2 CVCs in a word.

Possible word structures without glottal stop:

  • (C); standalone consonant is followed by a glottal stop (’), always.
  • (CV)
    • (CV)(CV)

    • (CV)(CV)(CV)(CV)

Orthography & Phonology

Sitkha’gũo writing uses real-world Devanagari.

Syllables are majoritively CV (consonant-vowel) digraphs, but there are also CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) syllables; Standalone Consonants are used only at the beginning of words but only followed by a glottal stop "( ’/ऽ )" to separate it from a following consonant, with the exception of ĵ.

All in-writing consonants have an inherent vowel, which is A by default, unless switched with another vowel diacritic or suppressed with a Virama ( ् ) (as would be the case if a consonant follows another consonant, most often creating a ligature) like real Devanagari. As a matter of course, here is no inherent vowel at the end of a word or preceding a glottal stop unless one is placed there.
