Transformers is a 2014 science fiction action film based on the Transformers franchise. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn and the screenplay is written by Drew Gars. The film is a reboot of the live action Transformers film series. It stars Hugh Jackman, Eric Bana, Meghan Camarena, Vera Farmiga, Jason Bateman, Amber Valletta, Gabriel Iglesias and Ray Wise.

Plot

Constant war between the Autobots and the Decepticons on Cybertron has caused great hardship. Both need supplies, and select numbers from each side and intend to get them. The Autobots weren't looking for a fight with the Decepticons, but they get one out in space anyway. When the Decepticons board the Autobots' ship it takes a beating and crashes onto Primitive Earth and knocks everyone unconscious. Four million years later, in 2014, a volcano eruption causes a probe to give them all new forms which come from vehicles in the surrounding area. They all get awoken- leading to a renewed conflict and the inclusion of humans.

Peter Cullen as Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots and keeper of the Matrix of Leadership who transforms into a Peterbilt 379 Truck.
Andrew Garfield as Bumblebee, an Autobot scout who transforms into a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.
Emma Watson as Arcee, an Autobot sergeant who serves as Optimus' second in command. She transforms into a pink Volkswagen beetle.
Lance Reddick as Jazz, an Autobot First Lieutenant who transforms into a Pontiac Solstice GXP Weekend Racer.
Liam Neeson as Ironhide, the Autobots' cantankerous weapons specialist who transforms in to a modified GMC Topkick C4500.
Robert Foxworth as Ratchet, the Autobots' medical officer who transforms into Rescue Hummer H2.
James Remar as Sideswipe, the Autobots' combat instructor who transforms into a silver Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Concept Convertible. He remains on Cybertron while the Optimus and the other Autobots head out into space.
Dave Wittenberg as Mirage, an Autobot spy who transforms into a red Ferrari 458 Italia.
George Coe as Wheeljack, an Autobot scientist who invents gadgets, equipment, and weapons who transforms into a blue Mercedes-Benz E550.
John Goodman as Hound, an Autobot commando who transforms into an Oshkosh Defense Medium Tactical Vehicle. He remains on Cybertron while the Optimus and the other Autobots head out into space.
Ken Watanabe as Drift, an Autobot tactician who transforms into a black and blue 2013 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse and a helicopter. He remains on Cybertron while the Optimus and the other Autobots head out into space.
John DiMaggio as Crosshairs, an Autobot paratrooper who transforms into a green 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7 Stingray. He remains on Cybertron while the Optimus and the other Autobots head out into space.

Decepticons:

Frank Welker as Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons who transforms Cybertronian Jet/Cybertronian Flying Tank, Shockwave, the emotionless but fierce Decepticons' military operations commander, Soundwave, the Decepticons' communication officer who transforms into a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and Barricade, a decepticon interrogator that transforms into a 2006 Saleen S281E police car.
Charlie Adler as Starscream, Megatron's second-in-command who transforms into a F-22 Raptor.
Kevin Michael Richardson as Brawl, a Decepticon demolition specialist who transforms into an dark green M1 Abrams.
Fred Tatasciore as Blackout, a Decepticon bruiser who transforms into a Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion, Bonecrusher, the rampaging mine sweeper of the Decepticons.
Keith Szarabajka as Laserbeak, a condor-like Decepticon who is fiercely loyal to Soundwave who frequently changes transformation modes.

Production

Development:

During production for Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Shia LaBeouf and Michael Bay confirmed that they would not return for a fourth installment of the franchise. Roland Emmerich, Joe Johnston, Jon Turteltaub, Stephen Sommers, Louis Leterrier and David Yates were rumored to replace Bay. Jason Statham was rumored to star in the fourth installment. Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed that he was able to announce the film as he was talking with Steven Spielberg, Bay and Paramount. Screenwriter Drew Gars was approached to write the film, which he accepted.

After final negotiations with Bay to direct the film, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura confirmed that this a reboot of the franchise. In February 2012, Paramount Pictures and Matthew Vaughn announced that Vaughn would be producing and directing the film, scheduled for a June 27, 2014 release. The film is a reboot. Steve Jablonsky returned to write the score, respectively. In April 2013, it was announced that China Movie Channel and Jiaflix Enterprises would co-produce the film with Paramount.

Casting:

In November 2012, Hugh Jackman was cast in the film. Also in November 2012, The Hollywood Reporter reported that casting had began for two additional leads: the neighbor to Jackman's character and his daughter. In January 2013, Eric Bana was cast as the neighbor, and in March 2013, Youtube personality Meghan Camarena was cast as Bana's daughter.

Peter Cullen reprises his role as the voice of Optimus Prime. In April 2013, Vaughn revealed that actor Jason Bateman had joined the cast. On May 1, 2013, actress Vera Farminga was cast as Marissa Faireborn. On May 6, 2013, actress Amber Valletta was cast in a major role. That same month, actor Ray Wise and comedian Gabriel Iglesias joined the cast. On July 14, 2013, Vaughn announced that Madeline Carroll and Mason Cook had joined the cast. That same month, rapper Sean "P Diddy" Combs also joined the cast.
