Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle DX is a bullet-hell battle game that takes place in the Touhou universe, and an updated version of the original Touhou Kobuto V: Burst Battle.

Gameplay

Similar to its successor, Genso Rondo, the game features a one-on-one fighting with the use of bullets. Melee attacks can also be performed when near to the opponent.

Unlike Genso Rondo, the fights takes place on a 3D square arena on the ground with the camera focusing behind the player's character.

The goal of the game is to simply eliminate the opposing force by depleting their health to zero by attacking with bullets with various pattern differing with each character being used.

There are different types of attacks that have different directions, mainly left, right, and middle. Alternate attacks can also be used if a specific button is held (The default key in the PC version is "V"). Melee attacks are executed once the attack button is pressed when nearby to the opponent. Spell cards are also present in the game as the feature makes the player fires a special kind of projectile that is unique to every character.

Player can maneuvers around the arena in various ways to avoid bullets. Players can run around, dash and jump. Double jump is performed when pressing the jump button after the first jump. Players can dash to move quickly around the arena, even dashing in mid-air is possible.

The camera can be moved left or right manually to gain view of the opponent or the incoming bullets. The camera can also be locked on the opponent, automatically gaining sight of the enemy.

When playing multiplayer mode, this will feature a vertical split-screen to accompany both players. In team battles, four players split into 2 teams battle it out against each other, too.

In the Nintendo Switch version of this game, exclusive characters Princess Peach from the Mario franchise and Princess Zelda from The Legend of Zelda franchise are both added to the game's roster.
