Tonka Joe is a fictional character from the Tonka line of of military-themed toys. The character is the main protagonist of the Tonka video game franchise. Pete L. J. Dickson portrays Tonka Joe in the 2011 live-action film Tonka: Five One-0 and the 2015 sequel Tonka: Revelation.
Tonka Joe is the code name of Captain Joseph M. Blackstone, and was born in Los Angeles, California. He is a skilled elite operative. He was at the top of his class at Fort Benning, attended U.S. Army Special Language school, has undergone Special Forces training, and worked with South Vietnamese tribesmen. He was also an instructor in four different Special Forces schools. Like Duke from G.I. Joe, despite his accomplishments, he has repeatedly turned down any officer commissions offered to him. He believes a commander's place is with his troops, not behind the battle lines.
Tonka Joe primarily appears in the Tonka video game series published by Square Enix (previously Square back then) as the main protagonist.
Tonka Joe's introduction was widely regarded as an innovation in the video game market, like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, with Rob Smith of PlayStation: The Official Magazine describing him as a video game icon of that generation of games.
Pete L. J. Dickson plays Tonka Joe in the 2011 film Tonka: Five One-0. He is similar to Duke from the G.I. Joe film series; both have scars across their faces, they also identify themselves as a Captain, while conspicuously wearing the rank of Major (Army) or Lt. Commander (Navy). In the first film, Joe and his best friends/teammates Pops and Blaze join Tonka after their old unit was killed by an attack led by Shade (who is Marie; Joe's former girlfriend).
Dickson returns as Tonka Joe in the sequel, Tonka: Revelation where the character is awarded his own team of Tonkas. During an attack via air strike, Joe's older sister Suzy is killed off early in the film. Joe sets out to avenge her and he succeeds in killing Scar. He then learns his sister is still alive somewhere and begins a quest to find her.
In March 2015, Dickson had signed on to respire his role as Joe in the third film.
