The Seven Deadly Sins is a 2017 action fantasy adventure film based on the manga and anime series, starring

Summary

The Seven Deadly Sins were once an active group of knights in the region of Britannia, who disbanded after they supposedly plotted to overthrow the Liones Kingdom. Their supposed defeat came at the hands of the Holy Knights, but rumors continued to persist that they were still alive. Ten years later, the Holy Knights staged a coup d'état and captured the king, becoming the new, tyrannical rulers of the kingdom. The third princess, Elizabeth, then starts out on a journey to find the Seven Deadly Sins and enlist their help in taking back the kingdom.

Plot

The third princess of the Kingdom of Liones, Elizabeth, is on a mission to find the Seven Deadly Sins, a group of extremely powerful but dangerous group of Holy Knights who are now wanted criminals for supposedly betraying the kingdom. She finds Meliodas, the owner of the Boar Hat bar and, unbeknownst to her, the captain of the Seven Deadly Sins. When attacked by Holy Knight apprentice Twigo, Meliodas quickly overcomes the opponent, but reveals his identity in the process. He joins Elizabeth on her journey to find the other Deadly Sins in order to defeat the Holy Knights, who have orchestrated a coup d'état and overthrown the king.

Holy Knight Gilthunder plants his sword in the center of the town of Bernia, thus preventing the village from making the Bernia ale, which was their primary source of income. After innumerable unsuccessful attempts by the villagers to remove the sword, which blocked the water source, Meliodas easily removes the object. A celebration is held at the Boar Hat and Meliodas is hailed as a savior by Bernia's villagers. Gilthunder, wanting to confirm whether the removal of his sword was an accident or not, threw a spear imbued with his power towards the town. Meliodas, however, easily stops and throws the spear back, destroying Fort Solgales. He and Elizabeth decide to proceed to the Forest of White Dreams

Meliodas, Hawk and Elizabeth travel to the Forest of White Dreams that even Holy Knights avoid. There, the Prankster Imps that inhabit the Forest of White Dreams attempt to confuse them by impersonating Hawk and Elizabeth in order to lead them away. After defeating them, they follow them and find the Serpent's Sin of Envy, Diane, sleeping in the forest. Gilthunder suddenly arrives and binds all of them with his lightning magic. Meliodas battles Gilthunder, purposely allows the Holy Knight to defeat him. Under the pretense of dying due to the grave wound, Meliodas acquires information about the whereabouts of two members of the Seven Deadly Sins, King and Ban, as his apparent last wish.

Having discovered the whereabouts of Ban and King, Diane throws Gilthunder out of the forest and Meliodas, Hawk and Elizabeth, now joined by Diane, head toward the Baste Dungeon, where Ban is imprisoned. They later arrive at Dalmary Town where Meliodas is treated by Dana. Diane and Elizabeth begin to argue and discuss about the aspects in which they envy each other. They are suddenly attacked by the Holy Knight Friesia, who tries to destroy the entire town along with the Deadly Sins, but Diane quickly destroys all of her insects. Concurrently, Ban escapes from his cell in the Baste Dungeon and is stopped by Jericho, who unsuccessfully tries to subdue him. Dana unexpectedly reveals that the medicine Meliodas drank was a deadly poison as Golgius appears out of the blue.

Golgius appears and attempts to take Elizabeth and Meliodas' sword back to Liones. Whilst attempting to take the sword, Meliodas awakens, with no effect of the poison showing, proceeding to blast an aura that causes Golgius to make a hasty retreat. Meliodas and Elizabeth set off to Baste Dungeon afterwards, however, they are stopped by a confused Diane, who after hearing the sound of a bell, attacks the group. They try to run away from the berserk Diane, involving a pair of shepherds along the way, however Meliodas soon succumbs to the same bell, and begins to fight Diane. Meanwhile in Baste Dungeon, Ban is shown wandering around after having dealt with Jericho. It is not long before he is found by Jude of the Weird Fangs, who promptly stabs Ban in the chest.

Meliodas and Diane are still fighting each other; Elizabeth shouts for them to snap out of it, and for a few moments they do, until the sound of the bell once again spurs them to fight each other again. The Holy Knight Friesia comes in, threatening the life of the shepherds, however Elizabeth steps in to protect one of them, heavily injuring herself in the process. It is then revealed that one of the young shepherds is actually Ruin, and that he has been fooling them all this time. As Elizabeth gets beaten up by Ruin, she manages to knock off the bell that is causing the hallucinations; Ruin goes to punish Elizabeth further for doing so, but Meliodas quickly comes to her aid, thus beginning Meliodas' battle with Ruin, whilst Diane faces off against Friesia. Both defeat their respective opponents, and the team continues their trek to Baste Dungeon. Elsewhere, despite having been pierced in the chest, Ban is able to overpower Jude, and takes him out. Meliodas and co. finally enter Baste Dungeon, although it is all a trap as Golgius locks them in with the Eternal Seal Spell. However, the reunion between Ban and Meliodas caused so much destruction that it completely destroyed the structure and disregarded the spell. Later that evening, the gang enjoys a meal courtesy of Dana, but an omen in the sky foretells of great disaster to befall Britannia soon. In Liones, it is revealed that King is alive and well, but he is working with Gilthunder.

Meliodas chooses the gang's next destination to be the Capital of the Dead, where King is rumored to have gone

King has a final confrontation with Ban, finishing him off with Ban being frozen, with Elaine making an appearance, never showing herself to King. A holy knight Guila battles it out against Meliodas, Diane and Elizabeth. Ban continues his flashbacks with Elaine and the Fairy forest, at the fountain of youth.

With the appearance of King, the battle comes to a close as he overpowers Guila with Chastiefol. Their time in the Capital of the Dead seemingly up, Ban and Elaine have one more close moment, before being bid a farewell by Ellen and Luigi, who are revealed to have been ghosts this entire time. As the group rests,Elizabeth praises King's power as he was able to defeat Guila single-handedly, whereas Meliodas, Ban, and Diane struggled, despite it being a 3 v 1. King responds that if either of them had their Sacred Treasures, they would have been able to defeat Guila in a breeze, which starts their search for the others' Sacred Treasures. Under the guise of summons from Hendrickson, Jericho and Twigo are taken underground and offered power through drinking Demon's Blood, however if they're not compatible with the Demon Blood, they will die. The two accept this despite its risks and drink the demon's blood; Jericho is found compatible, and Twigo not. Meanwhile, Meliodas and the others arrive at Byzel for its annual fighting festival, whose grand prize this year is Gideon, Diane's Sacred Treasure. As giants are banned from the festival due to an incident years ago, Meliodas, Ban, and King enter the competition to win back Diane's Sacred Treasure.

The Byzel fighting festival starts, the contestants engage in an initial brawl that only leaves 8 people standing. The three first rounds unravel with some interesting displays of power and a few surprises. The episode ends with Ban and Meriodas warming up for the next round in which they will be fighting each other.

A flash back shows how Meriodas and Ban first met, after that both sins engage in a a fight that shakes the ground beneath their feet. During the fight Meriodas is forced to show some of his true colors for a mere instant. The semifinal rounds end up with the sins gaining one new friend and remembering an old one. Everything is ready for the final match while a storm starts brewing in the horizon.

As the final round draws to a close, the Holy Knights descend upon the sins with some new powers and improved equipment. The Deadly Sins are pushed against the ropes. Elizabeth's sister catches up to her and their initial friendly encounter turns into a heated argument. Meliodas is temporarily trapped inside a magical crystal, Elizabeth is cornered by the holy knights and she desperately calls for Meliodas, then there is sudden a burst of dark light and Meliodas emerges, however, what comes out of the crystal does not seem to be the usual Meliodas.

With Meliodas at last freed, the true power of the Captain sin makes its debute. Posesed by a strange darkness, Meliodas attacks both enemies and allies until he clashes against Hellbram, the two of them fight ferociously. In the meantime Diane finds her giant hammer and demonstrates what she is able to do with it. When the battle is over Meliodas notices his broken sword is missing.

Several sightings of an armored giant walking around the mountains reach the holy knights and they quickly send an assasination squad to deal with it. In the meantime Meliodas's group also finds out about the mysterious giant, when they learn its description fits that of an old comrade of theirs, they go on its search. The holy knight team, the sins and the giant clash in three way battle with a very interesting outcome and the discovery of another member of the Seven Deadly Sins.

The sins confront a strange demonic being, Meliodas is about to deal the final blow when he sees traces of a human body in the bulk of the demon and stops attacking. In the meantime Cain visits the Boar's Hat and chats with Elisabeth, their conversation reveals some facts about Meliodas's past. In the end Elizabeth rushes to the battle ground and her words give Meliodas the courage to fight to his full potential. When the sins inspect the dead body of the monster they find out it was some kind of hybrid between human and demon.

Hendriksen and Hellbram make their first attempt to bring back the demon clan using the handle of Meliodas's sword, but they fail, they appear to be missing one ingredient so Hendriksen sends someone to take the princess. Far away from there, Meliodas's group is taking a break from all the fighting, however their resting time is interrupted when a magician teleports inside the Boar's Hat and kidnaps Elizabeth and also Hawk by accident. MeLiodas lets out an scream of anger and storms out of the bar ready to rescue Elizabeth, Diane grabs Meliodas, Ban and Gawther with one hand and throws them in direction of Liones. When they land the three sins battle a whole army of holy knights that stands between them and the city of Liones. The sins advance rapidly but they suddenly stop when they sense an incredible source of power coming from the other side of the city, King Arthur, the new king of Camelot, is approaching with an army.

Hendriksen and some of his guards welcome Arthur and his companion, a short person covered with a cloak. After scorting them inside the city Hendriksen gives the order to attack, He engages king Arthur while Hendriksen's guards fight the cloaked person. Meanwhile King finds a way to transport Diane and him to the city of Liones, throught the mouth of Oslow his Houndog pet; Diane crosses first but her behind gets stuck in Oslow's mouth, unfortunatelly she is discovered by a group of powerful holy knights who throw some ferocious attacks to her. Diane faces the holy knights but she is overpowered by Dreyfus, the great holy knight. A powerful magical pulse sends Diane flying towards the city, her body crashes against the ground causing some destruction, when the holy knights catch up to her they prepare to land the final blow when suddenly Diane is backed up by two unlikely new allies, Hauser who finally accepts Diane as his true comrade, and Guila moved by the fact Diane saved her little brother from being crushed by a building just a few moments earlier.

The fight continues with Howzer and Guila combining their powers to protect Diane and Guila's little brother from the combined forces of Githunder, Helbram, Dreyfus, and Jericho. Howzer and Guila's attack knocks out Jericho but it has little to no effect in Hellbram, Gilthunder and Dreyfus. Then Dreyfus attacks Guila with his Pierce but Gowther takes her out of the trajectory of Dreyfus's attack in the nick of time. Gowther fights Dreyfus, trapping him into a terrible nightmare, however something inside Dreyfus's mind surprises Gawther and Dreyfus snaps out of it. Gowther is stabbed through the chest and left for dead while Dreyfus, having received too much damage, retreats with Gilthunder, Helbram is ordered to finish off the traitors and Diane. Back in the castle's dungeon, Elizabeth and Hawk are trying to escape when they come across Elizabeth's older sister Margaret, their encounter is interrupted by the evil mage Vivian, who takes Elizabeth and opens Margaret's cell indulging Elizabeth's wishes. In the meantime, Hellbram is about to finish Diane when King finally appears and protects her. King fights Hellbram, who turns out to be fairy and an old friend of King's. Hellbram starts directing attacks to Diane and king takes the attacks in order to protect her. King is pinned down, restrained by Hellbram's magical roots and he is forced to see how Hellbram unleashes a brutal attack on Diane. When the dust clears, it is seen King had been shielding Diane with one of Chastifol's protective forms.

Some old memories of a time Diane and King spent together when Diane was still a giant child. King lost his memories after a battle with a human wearing a eye patch and wakes up in Diane's cave. They share some beautiful years of friendship and carelessness, one day Diane wins in a game of catch with King which gives her the right to ask for one wish, she asks King to love her forever. One day King recovers his memories at the same time a small human village nearby is under attack, he leaves Diane with the promise to come back as soon as he takes care of whatever is happening in the human village. When King arrives, he discovers all the villagers have been killed by the eye patch man, who is actually Hellbram, his live long best friend. After knowing about Hellbram's lengthy blind rampage against humans, King feels he has to take responsibility for all that has happened in his absence, but that means leaving Diane. King send a magic rose to pierce Diane's skin, after which she falls asleep and wakes up with no memories of King and all their time together. Back to the present, King fights Hellbram while in a different location Hendriksen fights Arthur, whose inexperience appears to put him at a disadvantage, Arthur is eventually overwhelmed by Hendriksen until Meliodas jumps in the scene, ready to take down Hendriksen.

Gilthunder is sent to support Hendriksen against Meliodas, Arthur tries to keep Hendriksen busy while Meliodas fights Gilthunder. However, Arthur soon has to leave the fight after taking too much damage, then Meliodas is forced into a three on one fight against Gilthunder, Hendriksen and the mage Vivian. At the same time princess Margaret decides to take her own life jumping from a tower, Meliodas throws a magical attack in Margaret's direction and he kills an invisible creature that was monitoring the princess. The cloaked person slows Margaret's fall, however Meliodas receives a powerful attack and he is about to be killed by Hendriksen when suddenly a surprising change in Gilthunder promts him to defend Meliodas and knock down Hendriksen. The Boar Sin of gluttony Merlin makes her first appearance.

Ban is in the catacombs under the city and makes contact with the Goddess clan through the horn of Cernuros, the goddess accepts Ban's request of resurrecting Elaine with the condition that he kills one person, the Dragon Sin of wrath, Meliodas. Merlin and the other sins go to the chamber where the king Baltra and Elizabeth are being held captive. Dreyfus walks in the room and confesses all his crimes included the assasination of great holy knight Zaratras and the framing of the Seven Deadly Sins. Merlin takes King Blatra to Camelot in order to heal him when the building explodes. Hendriksen comes back embedded in darkness, exhibiting demonic powers and uses a spell that turns all new generation holy knights into berserk demon-like giant monsters. Hendriksen then faces Meliodas and Gilthunder, both of them get gravely injured and Elizabeth agrees to go with Hendriksen in order to stop a bloodbath. When Hendriksen and Elizabeth are gone Ban shows up with a serious face, Meliodas asks him to help rescue Elizabeth but instead Ban attacks Meliodas, severing one of his arms, Meliodas heals himself using demonic magic similar to the one used by Hendriksen a few moments earlier. Then Ban asks "Hey Capt'n, are you a demon?". The epilogue shows Elizabeth threatening to kill herself in order to twist Hendriksen's plans, they are surprised by Dreyfus who apparently intends to fight Hendriksen.

Ban keeps attempting to kill Meliodas until Hawk shakes some sense into him, "If you kill Meliodas and Elaine does not come back, you would have lost both your loved one and your best friend" Meliodas reasures Ban he will always be his friend and that they will settle this matter later, but for now all their efforts should be in rescuing Elizabeth. Meliodas jumps on Hawk's back and they go after Elizabeth. Ban and King go heal Diane and deal with the newly awakened demons. Dreyfus fights Hendriksen accidentally injuring Elizabeth, Dreyfus covers her injuries with a bandage, but she does not stop bleeding, Hendriksen overpowers Dreyfus and melts his body with his acid power. Meliodas and Hawk arrive just after Dreyfus is defeated. Meliodas and the sins corner Hendriksen and prepare to take him down.

Ban sends Hendriksen underground with a powerful punch, apparently there are some old catacombs in that location, the sins go after Hendriksen and they find him next to the dead body of grey demon, a more powerful being than the red demon. Hendriksen injects himself with some of the grey demon's blood and turns into an incredibly powerful monster. A sudden burst of power sends the sins back above ground where the fight against the new empowered Hendriksen starts. Hendriksen overpowers both the sins and the holy knights, only Meliodas is still standing so Hendriksen casts a deadly magical attack against him, all seems lost but then one of the dearest characters of the series sacrifices himself and takes the deadly attack saving Meliodas and Elizabeth. The shock of losing a dear friend awakens some strange power in Elizabeth that repels Hendriksen and heals everyone else. Sins, Holy Knights and Hendriksen prepare for the second and definitive assault.

Everyone combines forces to defeat Hendriksen, Meliodas uses his ultimate technique and finishes Hendriksen. However, some mysterious happenings occur after Hendriksen in defeated, the citizens of Liones saw a strange brid-like creature flying north. The episode ends with the sins and Elizabeth leaving for their next adventure, Merlin still has to explain Meliodas what happened 10 years ago. Ban leaves the gang without saying exactly where he is going, King follows him. The epilogue shows Gil, Hauser and Griamor checking some literature about demons and they discover some intriguing facts connected to Meliodas.
