Plot[]

A writer named Cillian Darcy has been having dreams about his past. He struggles to remember life-changing events when he was 13. In present day, he is married to a young woman named Emily with medical issues and control behaviour which she failed to knowledge. Cillian and Emily have a daughter Callieband twin sons Cillian II and Clark. Cillian's parents, Marie and Frank, live across the street with their older son Calvin. The Darcy relatives frequently make their presence known to the annoyance of Cillian and Emily.

When Cillian confesses he fell in love with a girl 15 years ago when he got separated from his friends during their trip in the woods, impressing Frank but angering Marie, who starts to favor Calvin, causing tension at Cillian's birthday party. Between that, Emily takes Callie, Cillian II and Clark on a camping trip so Cillian can write his book. However, Cillian's dreams of writing a sports book get squashed when the publishing company takes a pass on it, just when Calvin is promoted to lieutenant, which places the family into the dilemma about cheering Calvin or comforting Cillian. The brothers discuss their need for winning the never-ending competition between them, and getting in a fight. And finally, Emily is going through premenstrual syndrome (PMS); as a result, she has mood swings that make her more reactive to Cillian'a clumsiness and stubbornness when it comes to their house's cleanliness. Cillian buys a pill meant to alleviate the symptoms, but Emily takes it as him being "insensitive" and gets even angrier before becoming calm again after going out to her once-a-month "Ladies Day" for five hours of the evening.

While this goes on, Cillian tries to figure out the problem, but notices that last month is when he found his golf clubs in the garbage, figuring Emily is using ladies day to torture Cillian. He vents out all of this on Emily when she arrives home, an argument that involves playing a tape he recorded of Emily complaining to Cillian about lint. This pushes Emily over the edge, reminding Cillian of his inabilities to help her in her most serious situations, including Cillian watching sports television at the hospital while Emily birthed twin sons. She yells all of this while backing him towards a book shelf until he has had enough and left Emily. While driving out of the city, Cillian sees Skyla in a wedding dress as she jumped down into the ocean. He made a choice but to tool a dive and save her life.
