The New Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss is a children's television series based on Dr. Seuss's books and the original 1990s series The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss. Unlike the original series, which was done in puppetry, it is animated. The Cat in the Hat acts as the host. It is the sister show to Children's Book Collection.

Plot[]

Each episode is a self-contained story based on Dr. Seuss characters. The unifying element is that the stories are introduced and commented on by The Cat in the Hat (voiced by Martin Short, reprising his role from The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That) who serves as host of the show and lives in a playhouse with his Little Cats A through Z. The action shifts between The Cat in the Hat and what is going on in his playhouse and shorter related story interludes, which he shows to the audience by means of his "Wubbuloscope" while driving his Thingamajigger with his assistants, Thing One and Thing Two, his friends, Sally and Conrad, and their nervous pet fish. These story vignettes take place in various locations including:

  • Seussville - A contemporary city which is the main location of the show.
  • Jungle of Nool - A jungle that is home to Horton the Elephant, Morton the Elephant-Bird, Jane Kangaroo, Junior Kangaroo, Yertle the Turtle, the Wickershams, and the Sneels.
  • Kingdom of Didd - A Renaissance-like kingdom which is ruled by King Derwin.
  • Mount Crumpitt - Home of the Grinch and his dog, Max.

Trivia[]

  • The Nazzim of Bazzim and the Eskimo Fish are redesigned in order not to come off as racial stereotypes. The former is portrayed in a more authentic light and the latter are renamed the Inuit Fish.

Dubbing[]

It has been translated into Afrikaans, Arabic, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, German, French, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

Cultural Edits[]

  • The Hebrew and Arabic dubs of the show avoid all mentions of ham, which Jewish and Muslim dietary laws forbid to be eaten, and Christmas, due to the incongruity of the Christian theme to the target markets, the Hebrew and Arabic speaking audiences. Also in the Hebrew dub, Knox's name is changed to Bargaz, which is a pun on Argaz, the Hebrew word for box.
