The Hippo and Duck Family is a British animated slice-of-life comedy television series based on Silentnight's advertisements starring the Hippo and Duck mascots, as well as their children, who debuted in the advertising for Silentnight's children's bed brand "My First Bed".
It originally ran on CITV from January 12, 2004 to June 14, 2006; reruns lasted until May 26, 2008. It also aired on 9Go! in Australia from October 14, 2012 to December 25, 2014.
Premise[]
The series takes a look into the life of the Hippo and Duck family; and it shows that they aren't the perfect family. The parents are polar opposites, with Hippo, the father, being boisterous and sometimes insistent on doing things his way, and Ducky, the mother, being the more sensible parent, and doesn't always have time for nonsense and/or mischief. As for their children - Dee-Dee, Hugo, and Henry - they have a tendency to misbehave. But all in all, they are still a happy family who care about each other.
The family lives in a town that is inhabited by anthropomorphic animals and humans.
Characters[]
- Hippo (voiced by Clive Rowe) is the father of the family, and Ducky's husband. Despite being a gentle and caring father to his family, as well as a lovable husband to Ducky, he can often be a rather rambunctious hippo, who would sometimes want to do things his way, much to the exasperation of his wife; despite this, he still knows how to be responsible with taking take of the children, and knows how to have a good time that is perfect for the whole family.
- Ducky (voiced by Jane Horrocks) is the mother of the family, as well as Hippo's wife. Ducky is the more sensible parent of the family, who doesn't always have time for mischief, whether it comes from her husband, or her kids. However, she's still up for fun, despite her no-nonsense personality. She can sometimes be seen cleaning up the house, including cleaning up after the kids whenever they make a mess.
- Dee-Dee Duck is the daughter of the family. Even though she's the oldest and most responsible child of the family, Dee-Dee is likely to misbehave sometimes, including whenever she is picky about her food, or playing a rambunctious game of tag with her siblings. Despite her mischief, Dee-Dee is still a smart kid, and is an expert at certain things, like board games, especially snakes and ladders; also, Dee-Dee has a girly side, as she has some involvement with the color pink, like the streak in her ponytail, her sneakers, and even her bed.
- Hugo Hippo is the older son of the family. Hugo has a good relationship with his siblings Dee-Dee and Henry; they enjoy being together, especially whenever they play with each other. Hugo sometimes strives to make his parents proud of him, but he's still not the perfect kid, as he sometimes has trouble behaving, along with Dee-Dee and Henry. His favourite sport is football.
- Henry Hippo is the baby of the family. He is a fun-loving baby hippo who can get easily excited, especially when his older siblings Hugo and Dee-Dee are playing tag, to the point of Henry even "tagging" along in their game! He also enjoys to play other games with his siblings, including "snakes and ladders". Despite being a baby, Henry is somewhat intelligent, as he knows his letters and numbers. His most favourite thing is his purple blankie, which he carries almost everywhere he goes, especially when he goes to bed with it.

- Hippo and Ducky's bathroom: The room where Hippo and Ducky take their baths and brush their teeth. It is connected to their bedroom.
- The children's bedroom: It is where Hippo and Duck's children sleep, play, and hang out together in.
- The children's bathroom: The children's personal bathroom.
