The Grudge 4 is a 2017 supernatural horror film and a sequel to the 2009 horror film, The Grudge 3 and the fourth installment in The Grudge franchise. Takako Fuji will reprise her role as Kayako Sakei. Unlike the previous films' setting, the film will take place in 2013 and 2014. This will be the final film in the franchise. In Japan the film will be called The Grudge 4: The Rebirth. The film stars Patrick Wilson, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Stewart, Suzuka Ohgo, Gabriella Wilde, Emily Browning, Robin Wright, Dennis Quiad, Johanna Brady, Jadie Hobson, Manami Konishi, Ken Wantabe, Robbie Jones, Paget Brewster, Takako Fuji, Takashi Matsuyama, Kai Kobayashi, Jason Bateman and Naomi Watts.

Plot

A local american in Japan, Andrew Lewis lives in Tokyo with his pregnant wife, Diane and Andrew works as a local news reporter at an international news station. Andrew and his colleagues, Tomoka and Terry needs to come up with a news story that will bring their ratings up high and need to to find out quick. Andrew's boss, Keisuke sends Andrew, Terry and Kyoko to an old abandon house in the middle of Tokyo which is the same house Keisuke's daughter, Myumi and her friends died a year ago locals say a man brutally killed his wife and son and say it's haunted by the ghost of the family and whoever enters the house will forever be haunted by the curse. As soon as the three enter the house they start feeling strange experiences and starts seeing visions of the ghost of Kayako and Toshio who were that were murdered in the house. A year before, a local teenage girl named Amanda Davis moves to Tokyo with her parents where she attends a local international high school and befriends 3 school girls as she grows a life in Tokyo. Amanda's cousins, Aubrey and Karen both died in Japan and she takes her new friends Trish, Myumi and Kate to an old haunted house in Japan where a local Japanese family were and local residents of Tokyo say entering the house is what caused Aubrey and Karen's deaths so Amanda wants to know if the curse is real so she can avenge her cousins' deaths and burn down the house. Meanwhile in Chicago, Illionois, two local survivors from the curse are still traumatized and haunted by the memories of what they experienced through the curse and has been sent to a therapy center hoping it would stop the pain and trauma. While at the therapy center, several doctors and patients have been experincing strange things and illusions ever since Lisa and Rose have arrive and many patients and doctors have been disappearing mysteriously without a trace. Someone or something has followed them there.

Cast

Patrick Wilson as Andrew Lewis - He is the husband of Diane Lewis and news reporter at the Tokyo International News Station. At the age of 13, Andrew moved to Tokyo, Japan with his parents and hasn't moved since then. While growing up, there was very few American students or students that spoke English in his schools. Andrew felt so left out as he grew up in Japan and had no friends to hang out with. By the time Andrew was in his 20s, he started learning more about the Japanese culture and language and now he feels like he fits in with the rest of the locals in Japan. By the time he was in his 30s, Andrew met a local American woman who lived in Shibuya, Tokyo named Diane who he later married and grew a life with. Andrew works at an international news station called Tokyo International News or T.I.N for short where he has two colleagues, Tomoka and Terry. Diane is 3-months pregnant with Andrew's unborn child and once Andrew becomes a father, he will teach his future child all about the cultures of Japan and America. Andrew, Tomoka and Terry have been trying to find a story to interview for T.I.N but haven't found a good news story to report. Then their boss, Mr. Hiroshi sends them to an old abandon house where a local man, Takeo murdered his wife, Kayako and his son, Toshio and locals say that their ghosts haunt the house and will curse anyone who enters it so they interview and make a half-hour documentary of the house about the background of the deceased family and the murders that were committed in the house. After entering the house, Andrew has been seeing strange illusions like he feels like he is being watched by something that isn't human, he has found Kayako's diary and how she was in love with another man and he keeps on having hallucinations of a pale white Japanese boy who calls himself Toshio and has hallucinations of a pale white Japanese woman with long black hair and wears a long white underdress. The ghosts that dwell in the house had their chance to rebirth by growing inside Diane's fetus which will end the curse. That's when Andrew realizes he is cursed by the ghost of the Sakei family and he needs to find a way to stop it before it affects his pregnant wife.

Jessica Chastain as Diane Lewis - She is the wife of Andrew Lewis and a local American housewife in Tokyo, Japan. Diane grew up in California where she lived a first class life with her whole family and is a very multi-cultured young woman. Diane is an A plus ever since grade school and has an IQ of 140. By the time Diane was in her late 20s, she moved to Shibuya in Tokyo, Japan where she later met a local American named Andrew whom she later married and grew a life with. Diane is a local housewife in a nice quiet neighborhood in the center of Tokyo while her husband works at an international news station to provide for himself and Diane. She is 3-months pregnant with Andrew's unborn child and once Diane becomes a parent she will teach her future child all about the culture of Japan and America. Diane knows a lot about the culture and language of the Japanese. One day, her husband and his two colleagues interview an old abandon house where a brutal murder has been committed and people say it's haunted by the ghost of a family that died in the house. After entering the house, Diane and Andrew start having allusions of a pale white Japanese little boy who calls himself Toshio and a pale white Japanese woman in a long white underdress and has long black hair. That's when they both realize the curse of the Sakei family has come true and Andrew has to find a way to stop the curse from affecting Diane and the unborn baby growing inside her. The ghosts found their chance to be reborn and live again by growing inside Diane's unborn child and they carved the word "saisei" on Diane's stomach which is rebirth in Japanese.

Kristen Stewart as Amanada Davis - She is the cousin of Karen and Aubrey Davis, the niece of Ms. Davis, the daughter of Janine and Richard Davis and a local American schoolgirl at The International High School of Tokyo. Amanda grew up an only child with her parents in Pasadena, California and was a very popular student at her schools in America. Amanda didn't really visit her cousins often since her cousin Karen spent a college semester in Tokyo and Aubrey has been away for a long time. One day, Amanda finds out that both of her cousins and her aunt have died mysteriously and no one knows why or how it happened. When Amanda is 17 in 2013, her and her parents move to Tokyo where Aubrey and Karen both died mysteriously after entering an old rundown house. Amanda attends an international high school in Tokyo where her uniform is a blue blazer, a black tie, dark blue knee socks, white button up collared shirt, and dark blue plaid skirt. Amanda befriends 3 other school girls named Myumi, Trish and Kate who only befriended her so she can tell them all about Karen and Aubrey Davis. She takes Trish, Kate and Myumi to the house where the Sakei family was murdered, where both her cousins died and where three schoolgirls have disappeared and died ever since they entered the house. Amanda took them to the house because she has been hearing from residents of Japan that the Sakei house is haunted by the ghosts of the family that died in the house and that anyone who enters the house will forever be cursed by a powerful rage and Amanda wants to know if the curse is real. As soon as Amanda, Myumi, Trish and Kate enter the house, they feel like something is there with them, watching them, stalking them and threatening them. Amanda hardly knows anything about Japan or it's culture and feels like she is lost in a new world

Suzuka Ohgo as Myumi Hiroshi - She is one of Amanda's new friends, the daughter of Keisuke and a Japanese student at the International High School of Tokyo. Myumi is a passionate and beautiful young school girl that knows more about the American culture then her own Japanese heritage as she mostly speaks English but occasionally speaks Japanese. Myumi has heard about the curse that dwells inside the Sakei house but just convinces herself and her friends that it's all a myth. Myumi has heard about the mysterious murders of Karen Davis and her sister, Aubrey Davis who both entered the house before their deaths. Myumi is a very popular student at the International School of Tokyo along with her two best friends Trish and Kate. Myumi's school uniform is a white button up collared shirt, a plaid dark blue skirt, blue sweater vest, a black tie and dark blue knee socks. One day, when Karen and Aubrey's cousin, Amanda arrives in Tokyo and attends the same school that Myumi and her friends go to, Myumi, Kate and Trish befriend Amanda and tries to make her explain all about the background of Karen and Aubrey's mysterious deaths. Amanda then takes Myumi and her friends to the house where her cousins entered before they died because she has been hearing from locals about the curse and wants to know if the legend is real or not. As soon as Amanda and the 3 other schoolgirls enter the house, they started feeling like something is there with them, watching them, stalking them and threating them. A year after her and her friends deaths, her father Keisuke interviews the Sakei house that her friends went into before they were taken by the curse.

Gabriella Wilde as Trishia "Trish" Michaels - She is one of Amanda's new friends and a local American school girl at the International High School of Tokyo. Trish spent her whole life growing up in Japan and knows a lot about the history, language and culture of both Japan and America and uses everything knows about the two countries to get high grades in her school. Trish is a very popular girl at the International High School of Tokyo along with her two best friends, Kate and Myumi. Trish's school uniform is a blue blazer with a blue sweater vest underneath, a white button up collared shirt, a black tie, a plaid dark blue skirt and dark blue knee socks. One day a local American teenage girl moves to Tokyo and attends the same school Trish and her friends go to named Amanda Davis. Amanda is related to two victims of the Sakei curse, Karen and Aubrey Davis and so Trish and her friends befriended her only to make her explain all about the background of Karen and Aubrey Davis. Amanda later takes the 3 schoolgirls to the house that her cousins entered shortly before they mysteriously died. After the 4 schoolgirls entered the house, they started feeling like something is there with them, watching them, stalking them and threating them.

Emily Browning as Kate Thomas - She is one of Amanda's new friends and a local American school girl at the International High School of Tokyo. Kate is a beautiful, intelligent and multi-cultured teenage girl who has lived in Japan ever since she was 14 and has been learning a lot about the Japanese heritage and is very good at speaking the Japanese language as she attends the International High School of Tokyo and is a very popular student at the school along with her two best friends, Myumi and Trish. Kate's uniform is a blue blazer, a black tie, a white button up collared shirt, blue knee socks and a dark blue plaid skirt. One day a local American teenage girl moves to Tokyo and attends the same school with Kate and her friends named Amanda Davis. Amanda is related to two of the victims of the Sakei curse, Karen and Aubrey Davis. Soon Kate and her friends befriend Amanda only to make her explain all about the background of Karen and Aubrey Davis. Later Amanda takes the three schoolgirls to the house where her cousins entered shortly before they died because residents of Japan say the house haunted by the ghosts of the family that died in the house and say if you enter the house you will be forever cursed by the ghosts of the Sakei family and Amanda wants to know if the curse is real or not. After the four schoolgirls enter the house, they start feeling like something is there with them, watching them, stalking them and threatening them.

Robin Wright as Janine Davis - She is the mother of Amanda Davis, the wife of Richard Davis, the sister-in-law of Ms. Davis and the aunt of Karen and Aubrey Davis. Janine is a multi-cultured, motherly and very educated middle aged woman who works very hard to provide for herself and her family. Janine has lived in Pasadena, California with her husband and daughter her whole life and worked at a business office and she rarely visited her nieces since Karen took a college semester in Japan and Aubrey was faraway from Pasadena. A few years later her nieces and sister-in-law died mysteriously and no one knows how they died or how it was caused. Later Janine and her family move to Tokyo to start a newer fresher life in a new land. Janine gets a 9-hour job at a garment factory in Tokyo. She can almost pronounce any word or sentence in the Japanese language and she uses it whenever she communicates with another local. Janine and Richard sent Amanda to an international school where they hope she will make a lot of friends from different parts of the world. Amanda befriends 3 other girls from her school and takes them to an old abandon house where people say is haunted and cursed by the ghost of a family that died in the house and it's the same house that Karen and Aubrey entered shortly before they both mysteriously died. After Amanda entered the house, Janine and Richard have been seeing strange illusions like a pale white little Japanese boy who calls himself Toshio and hears noises coming from in the wall like it's a person in the walls. Amanda has borough the curse to her family and there is nothing they can do to escape it.

Dennis Quiad as Richard Davis - He is the father of Amanda Davis, the husband of Janine Davis, the brother of Ms. Davis and the uncle of Aubrey and Karen Davis. Richard is a hard-working, fatherly and sophisticated middle aged man who works 11 hours a day to provide enough food and shelter for his family. Richard has lived in Pasadena, California with his wife and daughter his whole life and worked at the Town Hall and he rarely visited his nieces because Karen took a college semester in Tokyo and Aubrey was faraway from Pasadena. A few years later he finds out his nieces and sister died and no one knows how it happened or why it was caused. Later Richard and his family move to Tokyo to start a newer fresher life in a new land. Richard and Janine send Amanda to an international school where they hope she will make a lot of new friends from different parts of the world. Amanda befriends 3 other girls from her school and takes them to an old abandon house where people say is haunted and cursed by the ghost of a family that died in the house and it's the same house that Karen and Aubrey entered shortly before they both mysteriously died. After Amanda entered the house, Janine and Richard have been seeing strange illusions like a pale white little Japanese boy balled up in a corner and calls himself Toshio and hears noises coming from in the wall like it's a person in the walls. Amanda has borough the curse to her family and there is nothing they can do to escape it.

Johanna Brady as Lisa Miller - She is the sister of Rose and Max and one of the survivors of the Sakei curse. Lisa lived with her brother and sister and was usually caught in escapades with Andy, even though she was always careful for Rose, an asthmatic little girl. When Rose started leaving toys in the hall, Lisa advised her to stop, only to discover that Rose could be saying the truth about a boy who enjoyed playing with them. Lisa first met Doctor Sullivan while Sullivan was taking pictures of the abandoned appartments where families had previously died. Lisa was told by her that Jake, the only survivor, had died, and about his supposedly fantasy stories of a woman with long black hair and dead white skin along with a little boy that killed his family. Lisa went to Jake's funeral with Sullivan and was taken by her to her office, where Sullivan showed her the Saki family background. Lisa and Andy later agreed in delaying their move to New York due to Rose's condition. She was first told about the grudge curse by a japanese newcomer, Naoko who happened to be murdered housewife's sister. Naoko mentioned an exorcist ritual to end the curse, and Lisa initially refused to help, worried about Rose and herself. Years later after their experience with the Sakei curse, the two were sent to a therapy center where a local therapist, Ms. Marsh will hope to recover them and help erase the horrible trauma from their minds. Little did they know, that Lisa and Rose have brought the curse with them because they have been hearing and seeing things like Kayako's croaking noise in the walls and found long pieces of black hair in their bed knowing that the curse will never be broken.

Jadie Hobson as Rose Miller - She is the sister of Lisa and Max and one of the survivors of the Sakei curse. Rose lived with Max and Lisa and often suffered asthma attacks. Gretchen took care of her always when Lisa, at some level negligent to her little sister, was out with her boyfriend Andy. One day, Rose left a Mr. Potato Head at the hall, to which she was told by Lisa to stop, remarking that Max would not like to find her toys spread around. Rose explained her it was for the boy, and Lisa then found Rose's toy was gone. Rose later met Naoko Kawamata, a Japanese newcomer interested in a room. While Rose played at her dollhouse, the ghostly boy returned to haunt her, causing Rose to have another attack. Later that night, she was visited once again at her bedroom, screaming as the ghost mewoed after her. Lisa entered her bedroom to check, but found it empty. Naoko later tried to help Rose and Lisa get rid of the curse by performing an ancient Japanese ritual on them which she had learned from her mother. Rose and Lisa succeeded into ending the curse but they were still severely traumatized of what they experienced. They have been sent to several hospitals and therapy centers but none have helped them get over the trauma they experienced. 5 years later after their last experience with the Sakei curse, the two were sent to a therapy center where a local therapist, Ms. Marsh will hope to recover them and erase the horrible trauma from their minds. Little did they know, that Lisa and Rose have brought the curse with them because they have been hearing and seeing things like Kayako's croaking noise in the walls and found long pieces of black hair in their bed knowing that the curse will never be broken. She is later the sole survivor of the Grudge 4 after Kayako, Toshio and Takeo's rebirth thus making her an orphan.

Manami Konishi as Tomoka - She is an local news reporter at the Tokyo International News Station and a colleague of Andrew Lewis. Tomoka is passionate and beautiful middle aged Japanese woman. Tomoka was a news reporter at T.I.N ever since she was 19 and hasn't changed since then. Over the years at T.I.N, Tomoka has met and befriended many different people around the world and learned about their cultures, heritages and languages. Tomoka works with two other news reporters who are both from America, Terry and Andrew. Tomoka has grown up in a big family in Osaka, Japan and attended an all-girl school growing up and her parents rarely showed love for her and pushed her to succeed. Kyoko left her home for college by the age of 18 and a year later she got a job as a news reporter at an international news station in Tokyo. Tomoka can speak many different languages from around the world like French, Japanese, English and Chinese. Tomoka, Terry and Andrew try their very hardest to find a good story for T.I.N but their hasn't been a good story to report about. Then their luck changes when their boss, Mr. Hiroshi sends them to an old abandon house where a local man, Takeo killed his wife, Kayako and their son, Toship before killing himself and locals say if you enter the house, you will forever be cursed and haunted by the ghost of the Sakei family. After, Andrew, Tomoka and Terry enter the house, they start experiencing strange things and start feeling like something isn't right and something is watching them, following them and threatening them. Tomoka had an illusion of Toshio's ghost calling her "okasa" ("mother" in Japanese) while holding her hand and Toshio's ghost seems to show affection for Tomoka probably because he identifies her as his own mother, Kayako.

Ken Wantabe as Keisuke Hiroshi - He is the manager of Andrew, Terry and Tomoka and the owner of the Tokyo International News Station. Keisuke is a hard-working, sophisticated and loyal middle aged man who will work his very hardest and try his very best to get his news station to have high ratings. His news station is called Tokyo's International News or T.I.N for short. The countries his news station air on are Japan, America, Canada, England and South East Asia. Keisuke has interviewed big news story he could find and that got his news station a lot of popularity and high ratings and he wants to keep it that way. Three of his workers, Tomoka, Andrew and Terry have been working and trying their very best to look for a good news story to interview but couldn't find anything very major. Then Keisuke finds an old newspaper article about a man, Takeo Sakei who killed his wife, Kayako and their son, Toshio and locals say it is haunted and cursed by the ghost of the family. Keisuke sends Tomoka, Terry and Andrew to the house along with their camera crew to interview the house and explain the entire background on the murders that happened in the house. After they entered the house, Keisuke has been experiencing some odd things going on like the security cameras keep going static, he hears loud noise coming from inside the walls like a banging noise and on one of the security cameras he saw a pale white little Japanese boy balled up in the corner and staring at the security camera. Andrew, Kyoko and Terry have brought the curse to Keisuke and there is nothing he can do to escape it and if he tries to cross it's path, he'll die.

Robbie Jones as Terry Briggs - He is a colleague of Andrew Lewis and a news reporter at the Tokyo International News Station. Terry is a good-hearted, loyal and hard-working man that has been living in Tokyo, Japan for 5 years. Terry first grew up in Washington state with a large family but eventually when he grew up and graduated college, he wanted to adeventure across the world and discover new things. He eventually moved and stayed in Tokyo where he got a job as a local news reporter for the Tokyo International News Station. Terry works with two other news reporters, Tomoka and Andrew as they are the three main news reporters at T.I.N and work their very hardest to make sure that T.I.N has high ratings or else they might lose their jobs. For the past few days, Andrew, Tomoka and Terry have been trying to find a story to interview but there wasn't a major or good enough story for them to interview for television. Then their luck changes when their boss, Mr. Keisuke sends them to an old abandon house where a man, Takeo killed his wife, Kayako and their son, Toshio and locals say that the house is haunted by the ghost of the family and if you enter you will be cursed. After entering the house, the three start experiencing and seeing strange illusions like a pale white little Japanese boy who calls himself Toshio, started hearing loud thumping noises in the walls like it's a person and a pale white Japanese woman with long black hair and wearing a long white underdress. That's when they realize the curse of the Sakei family is real.

Paget Brewster as Sharon Marsh - She is the therapist of Lisa and Rose and a local therapist at Chicago's Therapy Center. Sharon is a well-educated, soft-speaking and kind middle aged woman who grew up in Springfield, Illinois with her family. Sharon later attended college at The University of Chicago where she got a degree and later got a well paying job at a Therapy Center in Chicago where she is a high-level therapist. She people recover and erase with the horrible, traumatic memories they have suffered from their past. Two local residents from Chicago and the survivors of the Sakei curse, Lisa and Rose are sent to her Therapy Center where Sharon tries to help the two of them recover from a horrible trauma they have suffered from their pasts. While helping the two recover from their traumas, she started making real progress. After Lisa and Rose came to her therapy center, Sharon started experiencing strange illusions like she sees a pale white little Japanese boy who calls himself Toshio and a pale white Japanese woman with long black hair and a white underdress. That's when Sharon realizes that Lisa and Rose have brought her the curse.

Takako Fuji as Kayako Sakei - She is the mother of Toshio, the wife of Takeo and one of the ghosts that haunt the Sakei house. Kayako is a beautiful, passionate young Japanese woman who grew up in the middle of a forest with her mother who was an itako and her sister, Naoko. As she grew up, many of the dark spirits that her mother removed from people fed them to Kayako which would effect her in the future and dark spirits started possessing her body. During her adult life, Kayako moved to Tokyo where she later married a local man, Takeo Sakei and they had a child together and named him Toshio. Kayako later attended at an international college in Tokyo to get a high education. While attending the college, she started to fall in love with a local American man named Peter Kirk and started to become obsessed with him and even followed him around wherever he goes. She started writing about how she in love with another man in her childhood diary and even fantasizes about her and Peter getting married and falling in love with each other. Her husband starts getting suspicous and reads her diary to find any information on why she acts so strange. Takeo was filled with rage when he found out that she in love with another man and is not interested in him anymore. Kayako later comes home and finds Takeo reading her diary and how she is having an affair. Takeo slowly walked up to Kayako. She tried to run but Takeo grabbed her and ripped off her clothes and she was nothing but her white underdress. She later broke her foot trying to run. Kayako crawled down the stairs trying to escape Takeo's wrath but then he grabbed her hair and grabbed her head by both of his hands. Toshio watched as Takeo snapped her neck and blood emerged from Kayako's mouth as she looked up at Toshio who watched her die on the floor. Takeo later drown Toshio and their cat, Mar in a bathtub. Takeo finally wrapped Kayako and Toshio's bodies in plastic and kept them in the attic before he hung himself. Now the ghost of Kayako, Toshio and Takeo haunt the house and will forever haunt anyone who enters the house before killing them. First A local college student named Karen Davis goes to the house to take care of an old woman who's family all disapeared, then Karen's sister, Aubrey arrives in Tokyo where she later turns up dead and Aubrey avenges meanwhile 3 schoolgirls, Vanessa, Miyuki, Allison are haunted by the curse and all later die and finally the curse is brought to Chicago after one of the schoolgirls went into an apartment where 3 families died mysteriously in the apartment. In 2014, 3 local news reporters investigate and document the house to find some information about the murders and the curse that locals say lurk inside the house. All the ghosts that were caught in the curse found their chance to rebirth and live again by growing inside Andrew's pregnant wife, Diane which will completely end and break the Sakei curse and everyone that was a victim of it. All the ghosts of the curse morph into one as they grow inside Diane and Andrew's unborn baby. A local American teenage girl who is related to two victims of the Sakei curse moves to Tokyo with her family where she befriends 3 other schoolgirls at her new school in Japan and she later takes the 3 schoolgirls to the house that her cousins entered before they died. Meanwhile in Chicago, Illinois, two survivors are sent to a therapy center to recover from their horrible past where the curse followed them there.

Takashi Matsuyama as Takeo Sakei - He is the father of Toshio, the husband of Kayakoa don one of the ghosts that haunt the Sakei house. Takeo was a kind, fatherly and loyal middle aged Japanese man who showed lots of love and kindness towards his family. In 1994, Takeo met and fell in love with a young woman named Kayako Kawamata who he later married and had a child together with her and they later named their son, Toshio Sakei. The family moved into a nice house in a quiet neighborhood and they grew a life their and adopted a black cat for their son named Mar as their son really loved cats. Kayako attended college at an international university to get a decent education since she grew up home-schooled. Kayako fell in love with another man named Peter Kirk who she became obsessed with and even followed him around. Kayako wrote about her obsession and fantasy of Peter in her diary which she had as a kid and Takeo started getting suspicious ever since Kayako attended college. One day when Takeo is at home with Toshio while Kayako is out, Takeo reads her diary and fills with rage as he found out she was in love another man and didn't want Takeo anymore. Kayako later comes home and catches Takeo reading how she is having an affair and Takeo then slowly walks up to Kayako before he attacks her and rips her clothes off. Kayako was in nothing but her underdress and sprained her foot trying to escape from Takeo's wrath. Takeo slowly walked behind Kayako as she crawled down the stairs. Takeo grabbed her head by her hair and brutally snapped her neck as Toshio watched Takeo kill Kayako. Takeo looked up and noticed that Toshio saw everything. Toshio tried to escape his father's wrath but Takeo walked up stairs and dragged Toshio downstairs to the bathtub where he filled it with water and drowned Toshio in the bathtub along with his cat. Later Takeo wrapped up his wife and son's corpses in plastic and hid them in the attic. Later Takeo cut out Kayako's face in every picture she was in and put them on the wall. Rumor says that Takeo hung himself after but the way he really was because Kayako's ghost then hangs Takeo from the ceiling with her hair for revenge where Toshio's ghost started playing with Takeo's hanging corpse. Now the ghost of Kayako, Toshio and Takeo haunt the house and will forever haunt anyone who enters the house before killing them. First A local college student named Karen Davis goes to the house to take care of an old woman who's family all disapeared, then Karen's sister, Aubrey arrives in Tokyo where she later turns up dead and Aubrey avenges meanwhile 3 schoolgirls, Vanessa, Miyuki, Allison are haunted by the curse and all later die and finally the curse is brought to Chicago after one of the schoolgirls went into an apartment where 3 families died mysteriously in the apartment. In 2017, 3 local news reporters investigate and document the house to find some information about the murders and the curse that locals say lurk inside the house. A local American teen who is related to two victims of the Sakei curse moves to Tokyo with her family where she befriends 3 other schoolgirls at her new school in Japan and she later takes the 3 schoolgirls to the house that her cousins entered before they died. Meanwhile in Chicago, Illinois, two survivors are sent to a therapy center to recover from their horrible past where the curse followed them there.

Kai Kobayashi as Toshio Sakei - He is the son of Kayako and Takeo Sakei and one of the ghosts that haunt the Sakei house. Kayako and Takeo first met in 1994 where they fell in love with each other and later got married and later were blessed with a baby boy who they named Toshio Sakei. Toshio grew up in Tokyo his whole life where he attends first grade at a local school in Japan and had very loving parents. When Toshio was around 6 years old, him and his parents moved to a nice house in a quiet neighborhood in Tokyo where they all grew a life together. When Toshio was 4, his parents adopted a black cat for Toshio named Mar because Toshio has a deep love for felines. His mother, Kayako later attended college at an international college in Tokyo to get a decent education since she grew up homeschooled. While attending college, Kayako fell in love with another man named Peter Kirk and became completely obsessed with him and even followed him around. Kayako started writing her obsession and fantasy with Peter in her diary she had as a kid. Her husband, Takeo started getting suspicous about Kayako and wondered why. When Takeo was home alone with Toshio, he reads her diary about information on why she acts so strange. Takeo fills with rage after finding out she is in love with another man and doesn't want Takeo anymore. Kayako later comes home and finds Takeo reading her diary. While Toshio is in his bedroom with Mar, he hears his mother screaming and loud noise which leads to his curiosity. Toshio walks out of his bedroom and watches his father break his mother's neck which paralyzed him in fear knowing he's next. Takeo sees Toshio and Toshio runs to his bedroom but then Takeo walks upstairs and grabs Toshio. Takeo grabs Toshio and drags him downstairs to the bathroom where he filled a tub with water and drowned him with his cat. Jason Bateman as Henry Miller - He is the uncle of Max, Rose and Lisa Miller, the husband of Wanda Miller and a local resident in Chicago, Illinois. Henry sees his nephew and nieces as his own children since their parents weren't around as much to take care of them and wanted to give them role models to izolize and look up to when they're older. He is a fatherly and calm personality and wants to make sure nothing happens to Max, Rose or Lisa. Henry has the closest relationship with his younger niece, Rose as she used to play a lot at his house when she was younger and saw Henry as if he was her own father. Later when Henry hears that his nieces are in the hospital after they were caught in a massacre in their local apartment and that his nephew Max is dead. A few years later, he sends them to a therapy center and brings them into his home as long as they are in the therapy center. Soon after bringing Rose and Lisa into their house, Henry starts seeing illusions of a pale white Japanese boy that looks around 7 or 8 and calls himself Toshio. That's when he realizes that Lisa and Rose have brought the curse into his house.

Naomi Watts as Wanda Miller - She is the aunt of Max, Rose and Lisa Miller, the wife of Henry Miller and a local resident in Chicago, Illinois. Deaths

Lisa - Lisa walks in the bathroom wearing a white bathrobe and was about to take a shower. Lisa turned on the hot and cold water and waited for it to warm up before she takes a shower. She then removes the bathrobe from her chest and lays it on the floor before she steps into the shower. She puts shampoo in her hair and stats rubbing the shampoo in the hair. As Lisa is washing her hair she hears the door slowly open and then close and thought it was Rose. She went out the shower and puts on her white bath robe. She couldn't see who was in the bathroom because the steam from the hot water was to thick to see through. Lisa emerges her hand from her hair and finds long black hair on her hand which was strange because her hair was blond. She looks in the mirror and realizes that her hair has turned black and stringy because she was being possessed by Kayako's ghost. The light from the bathroom started to flicker and then she heard noises in the walls. Then Lisa could hear Kayako's croak which paralyzed her in fear. As the lights continued to flicker, Lisa backed up against the wall. Then when the light flickered off and back on, Kayako appeared behind Lisa and grabbed her by her hair in one hand and grabbed her by the side with ther other hand. Lisa was struggling to get free from Kayako's grip but she was too strong. Lisa screamed as loud at the top of her lungs before Kayako snapped Lisa's neck which made Lisa make the same croaking noise Kayako's ghost makes. Her body was later found laying on the bathroom floor by Wanda and Henry and the police thought it was suicide. Lisa's ghost returns bearing a strong resemblance to Kayako's ghost to haunt her sister, Rose.

Myumi Hiroshi - Myumi goes back to the Sakei house at night, she hears noises upstairs and wonders what the sound was and who was making it. She heard it coming from a room at the end of the hall so walked to the room where she heard the noise and was standing at the front of the room. What she saw was the ghost of Takeo Sakei in his human form reading Kayako's diary and filled with rage. Takeo then turned to Myumi, dropped the diary on the ground and slowly walked up to Myumi in angry mood. Myumi tried to turn around and run but then Takeo grabbed her by her school uniform and tried to pull her but she got free and broke her foot. This caused Kate to be in much pain and watched as Takeo was starting to grow angrier. Myumi slowly crawled down the stairs trying to escape Takeo's wrath up she noticed that Takeo was right behind her. Myumi finally made it to the end of the stairs and crawled towards the door. Before she could escape, Takeo grabbed her hair and then grabbed her head really tight. Kate then looked up and saw Toshio's ghost in his human form watching Takeo about to kill her. Takeo then snapped Myumi's neck which made her make a croaking noise similar to Kayako and then Take dropped her body to the ground where she slowly died. Her ghost later returns in her school uniform to haunt Amanda.

Keisuke Hiroshi - Keisuke is sitting at his desk posting the interview video of the Sakei house on his computer. Keisuke re-watches the interview around the Sakei house and the murders behind. As he watched Tomoka interview around the house, his computer started going static and lagging. Tomoka on the interview video started to resemble Kayako's ghost and the glitching on the video made Kyoko make the croaking sound that Kayako makes and Kyoko looked a lot like Kayako's ghost. Keisuke unplugged his computer and could hear Kayako's croak surrounding the room. He ran out of his office and ran into the men's bathroom. Keisuke looked into a mirror as he rubbed water onto his face to calm himself down. As he looked into the mirror, he saw in the reflection Toshio's ghost standing behind him. Keisuke turned around looked down at Toshio. Keisuke then asked Toshio "Who are you?" and "Why are you here?" in Japanese. Toshio didn't respond back to his questions, instead Toshio glared up at Keisuke then Toshio made a haunting meowing sound very loudly at Keisuke before attacking him and killing him. Keisuke's body was never found meaning he was consumed by the curse.

Tomoka - As Tomoka is about to leave work, she hears a door slam behind hear which was strange because she was the only one in the building. Tomoka opens the door and walks around the room which was the security gaurd's room. As Tomoka investigates around the room, some of the footage on the survelliance cameras started to go static and she could hear loud thumping noises coming from in the walls and then heard Kayako's croak coming from in the walls. Tomoka looks back at one of the survelliance camera and sees a dark figure of a woman in an underdress walking up to the survalliance camera. Just then the surveillance camera went pitch black which started to frighten Kyoko. She tried to get up and run but then the door closed mysteriously and wouldn't open. Kyoko looked back at the security footage and black hair started to emerge from the survalliance footage. Then a bloody pale white arm emerged and then Kyoko balled up in a corner as she watched the long, bloody, pale white figure emerge from the surveillance camera. The figure was really Kayako's blood covered ghost and Tomoka screamed in fear as Tomoka was crawling up towards her. Kayako cornerered Tomoka and Tomoka screamed on the top of her lungs as the ghost got closer. Her death was off-screen and her body was never found meaning that she was fully consumed by the curse. Later Tomoka's ghost returns and kills Henry.

Trish Michaels - Trish exited out of her school along with several of her classmates and walked to a local bus stop where she stood next to a young Japanese woman with long straight black hair and wearing a white trench coat. She calls Kate on her phone to see if she can study later with her and Kate agrees with her. Trish then talks to Kate about how she feels watched ever since they entered the Sakei house and how Myumi hasn't been at school for 2 days and how she is starting to worry about her. Trish then says goodbye to Kate and dials the number for Myumi's phone on her phone to see where she is and why she isn't at school. She puts the phone towards her ear waiting for Myumi to pick up the phone and then she could finally hear someone pick up the phone. Trish said "Myumi is that you?" but all she could hear over the phone was Kayako's croak which paralyzed her in fear and made her drop her phone to the ground as she shivered in fear and can't get the croaking noise out of her head. As Trish is paralyzed in fear, she can hear the croaking right next to her and as she turns her head, she sees Kayako glaring at her while making the croaking noise. Trish then screamed at the top of her lungs as Kayako attacked her and killed her off-screen. Trish's ghost returns in her school uniform to haunt Amanda.

Kate Thomas - After school, Kate returns to the Sakei house by herself hoping to see if the curse is real and if it's responsible for Trish and Myumi's absence. Kate slowly enters the house and takes a flashlight out of her book bag planning to investigate the house a little more. As Kate walked around the house, she looked up and saw Toshio's ghost in his human form glaring at her in a frightened way. Kate says "Hello, Who Are You" in Japanese. Toshio then runs down the hall which he does moments before his demise before he became a ghost. So Kate walks up the stairs and follows where she saw Toshio run. As Kate walked up the stairs, she a door slightly open. Kate enters the room and notices a closet door covered in tape. She rips off the tape and hears meowing noises coming from inside the closet. Kate slowly opens the closet door and sticks her head inside the closet and all she finds is Kayako's diary. Kate starts flipping through pages and nearly all the pages are about a guy named Peter. Kate then looks forwards and sees Toshio's ghost balled up in a corner with a black cat. Toshio reaches out with both of his hands and grabs Kate by her head and pulls her into the closet and closes the closet door where he killed her off-screen. Kate's ghost returns in her school uniform to haunt Amanda.

Henry Miller - As Henry is walking home from work. He hears sobbing coming from an alley. Henry slowly walks down the alley where he hears the sobbing and comes across Toshio manifested himself into his human form while he is balled up in a corner in the alley. Henry asks the boy what's wrong a do where's his parents but Toshio didn't respond back and instead glared evilly at Henry. Henry then noticed a blood covered journal next to Toshio and so he picks it up and he soon realizes it's Kayako's journal. As Henry reads the journal and turns the pages, he did a page that has well-drawn eye. The eye then manifests itself as Tomoka's eye which makes Henry throw it away from him as he is cornered. Tomoka's long black hair emerges from the journal and then her head completely emerges from the journal. Henry was paralyzed in fear as he watches Tomoka's ghost emerge from the diary. Tomoka's ghost crawled up to a cornered Herny who watched in fear as the ghost got closer to him. Tomoka's ghost made the exact same croaking noise that Kayako's ghost makes. Henry was later killed by Tomoka's ghost off-screen. It was confirmed by the police that his younger was ripped out, all his bones are broken and was brutally gutted.

Wanda Miller - As Wanda runs her bath water, she hears something break in the house and thought it was Rose who was at therapy. Wanda walks around the house and notices a vase broken on the floor. Wanda cleans up the vase but then suddenly a black cat passes by between her legs and she follows the cat into the bathroom where she saw it head. Before Wamda could walk into the bathroom, she heard a little boy screaming and water splashing. Wanda runs into the bathroom and notices Toshio manifested himself into his demise. Wanda takes Toshio's head out of the water and lays him on the floor shaking him to see if he was alright. Takeo's ghost then manifests himself into his human form and grabs Wanda by the head and sticks her head in the bath water similar to Toshio's death. Toshio's ghost then sat on the bathroom counter as he watched Takeo kill Wanda same way he killed Toshio.

Richard and Janine Davis - Richard and Janine return home at night as Janine was about to make dinner. When they open the door to their apartment, they find all the lights are off and wondered if Amanda was home or not. Richard turns on the lights and calls out to see if Amanda was home or not. They don't see her shoes by the door so they dial her phone number on their home phone and waits for Amanda to pick up the phone to see where she is. As they wait for Amanda to pick up the phone, long black hair starts lowering from the ceiling and the hair appeared behind Richard and Janine which made them both scream in fear as black hair started lowering around them. A minute later, Amanda comes home and finds Richard and Janine's corpses hanging from the ceiling with long black hair around their necks and Toshio's ghost was playing with their corpses.

Amanda Davis - As Amanda returns home at night after school, she finds all the lights off and finds her parents shoes by the door knowing that their home. Amanda turns on the lights and is shocked in fear as she finds her parents corpses hanging from the ceiling with long black hair around their necks. Amanda looked up at the ceiling and saw lots of black hair completely covering the ceilings. Amanda then noticed that her parents hanging corpses were slamming against the walls one at a time and wondered why they were thumping against the walls. Amanda turned her head and saw that Toshio's ghost was playing and toying with the corpses and Toshio's pale white skin made Amanda paralyze in fear. Amanda backed up against an open window as she watched Toshio continue to play with the corpses. A cold pale white hand emerged from the window and as Amanda slowly turned her head, she saw the ghosts of Myumi, Kate and Trish in their school uniforms standing at the window which made Amanda get up and run out of her apartment and down the halls. Amanda then noticed an elevator and ran towards the elevator hoping to escape from the apartment building. As Amanda waited for the elevator door to open, she turned around and saw Kayako's ghost covered in blood crawling on the floor towards her which frightened her. Kayako reached out to grab Amanda but the elevator door opened and Amanda made it in the elevator in time before she could be taken by the curse. As the elevator was going down to the first floor, it suddenly stopped and Amanda pressed the button several times but wouldn't go. Then the elevator light started to flicker and Kayako's croaking noise started to surround the area in the elevator which paralyzed Amanda in fear. Kayako's long black hair emerged from the walls, ceiling and door of the elevator. The hair started to wrap around Amanda really tight and the hair pushed on Amanda's windpipe suffocating her. The ghosts of Myumi, Kate and Trish appeared in front of Amanda and glared at her as the hair started to wrap around her. Kayako's ghostly white face emerged from behind Amanda and then the hair fully consumed Amanda. Kayako, Myumi, Trish and Kate's ghosts killed Amanda off-screen meaning that she joined Trish, Myumi and Kate in the afterlife. Her ghost later returns in her school uniform along with Trish, Myumi, and Kate to haunt Keisuke, Myumi's father.

Sharon Marsh - Sharon is sitting in her office looking at Rose and Lisa's files and as she flipped through the pages of their files, one of the pages was covered in black hair and the black hair started getting on her hand which frightened her and then the lights flickered and loud thumping noises started to grow loud in the walls. Sharon ran out of her office and ran down a flight of stairs in fear. As she ran down the stairs, she accidently broke her foot which made her fall to the end of the stairs and onto the ground. Sharon crawled towards the exit until she heard Kayako's croak coming from the top of the stairs. Sharon turned around and saw Kayako's ghost slowly crawling down the stairs towards her which paralyzed Sharon in fear as the ghost made a loud croaking noise. Sharon tried to run but was completely paralyzed in fear. Kayako crawled up towards Sharon and she killed her off-screen. Sharon's corpse was later found by Rose with her jaw ripped off and her eyes gouged out.

Terry Briggs - Terry and Andrew return back to the Sakei house after Kyoko and Keisuke disappeared and they know that the curse inside the house is true. They bring 10 buckets of gasoline and a packet of matches hoping it would end the curse once and for all. Terry and Andrew split up around the house as they both cover the house floorboards with gasoline and Andrew was about to light a match and burn the house down until he heard noises coming from upstairs and could hear Terry gagging. Andrew walked up the stairs and found a trail of blood leading to a room. Andrew follows the trail of blood and as he opens the door to a room, he finds Terry's corpse laying on the floor covered in blood and a his throat slit because the ghost of Takeo brutally murdered him off-screen thus making him the final victim of the Sakei curse before the ghosts' rebirth.

Andrew Lewis - After discovering Terry's corpse, Andrew runs down the stairs and finds the front door wide open but before he could run out the door, the door mysteriously closed by itself and he couldn't get the door open. Andrew could hear Kayako's croaking noise coming from the top of the stairs. Andrew slowly turned around and saw Kayako's ghost crawling down the stairs and the ghost glared at Andrew as it crawled down the stairs making sure Andrew doesn't escape. As Andrew was cornered by the ghost and Kayako reached out to kill him, Andrew lighted a match and placed the match on the floorboards where it was covered in gasoline. The fire spreaded across the floorboards and walls and watched as the fire started to make the house fall apart. The ghost mysteriously disappeared after the Andrew lighted a match meaning that he has stopped the curse. The house started to fall apart even quicker and he wasn't able to escape out of the house because the fire started to grow larger and larger by the second. Andrew found an opening and ran through the opening. The opening through the fire lead to a window that was covered up with nailed together wooden boards. Andrew broke the wooden boards and tried his very best to squeeze through the window but he was too late. The fire made house fully flatten to the ground while Andrew was still inside the house meaning that Andrew ended the curse for good.

Diane Lewis - A few months later after Andrew's death, Diane visits Andrew's grave with a rose in a sad mood. Diane bent down and placed the rose on Andrew's grave as tears came from her eyes and down to her cheek. She then started sniffling as cannot get over the death of her husband. A few seconds later, Diane went into labor and was rushed to a hospital in a delivery room where she was giving birth to her newborn baby. The doctors continued to ask her to push as one doctor put a wet towel on her forehead. Diane then could hear a baby crying so she rose up to see her baby with a smirk on her face. When she rose up, she saw the doctors in the delivery room paralyzed in fear. Then Kayako's bloody covered hand emerged from between Diane's legs and grabbed her chest. Kayako's bloody covered ghost emerged from inside Diane's body and crawled up towards Diane who was paralyzed in fear. Kayako made a croaking noise as she crawled closer and closer to Diane. The film then ends in a black screen meaning that it was possible that Kayako killed Diane and her new born baby off-screen or she manifested herself as a ghost one-more time before being fully reborn.
