The Great Hunter Detective is a traditionally animated adventure film that was produced by Hemdale Film Corporation and distributed by Tri-Star Pictures on July 15, 1987. It was directed by Art Stevens and produced by Richard Rich, who both previously worked on The Fox and the Hound (1981)
Cast and characters[]
- Jack Albertson as Amos, the main character, a detective and a hunter who helps Kayla after her dad is kidnapped. Similar to The Red Hoodie Guy Character and the Blue Character, Albertson's lines were recorded before he sadly passed away on November 25, 1981.
- Tony Jay as Tyson, Amos's rival.
- John Fiedler as Cody, Amos's eventual friend who first finds Kayla crying after her dad is kidnapped and assists Amos in capturing Tyson.
- Michelle Stacy as Kayla, a little girl who's dad gets kidnapped at the start of the movie.
- James MacDonald as Carsen, Tyson's bumbling bat right-hand henchman. He can't fly as a result of a crippled-wing and a peg leg.
- Dom DeLuise as Kayla's father, who was kidnapped by Carsen at the start of the film to make a robot out of the queen of England for Tyson.
- Frank Welker as Stepney, Amos's loyal St. Bernard. Technically, he belongs to Sherlock Holmes (the person who lives under Amos).
- Welker also voices Rita, Tyson's large and pompous pet cat who eats anyone who pisses off Tyson. She gets chased by Stepney, only to get mauled by the dogs during the climax.
- Jeanette Nolan as Mrs. Tweed, Amos's housekeeper. She adores Amos, but gets very annoyed when he mistreats her good pillows by shooting them with a pistol.
- Carole Shelley as Queen Elizabeth, the queen of England who Tyson tries to dispose of.
- Tress MacNeille as Callie, a woman who appears in "Let Me Be Good to You."
