Season 1 (2002)

  1. "Pilot"- Eddie bails soon to be 16-year-old Oliver Queen from a London police station, after Oliver has gotten himself into another fight. Eddie informs Oliver that the trustees from his family's company need to see him, and though he'd rather stay where he is, Oliver nods when Eddie tells him he has no choice. After having a nightmare about his parents' murder, Oliver wakes up in his private jet and turns on the TV to see every show talking about him, including one hosted by Susan Williams. Meanwhile, Eddie reads a book on troubled teens. Arriving in Star City; Oliver ponders why anyone would live in a city like this, as he points out running his company does not seem to be "part of the plan". After being mobbed by reporters, the two finally arrive at Queen Manor where, after snapping at Eddie for bothering him because he got emotional from seeing his family portrait, Oliver heads out. With Eddie at his side, driving the Rolls Royce, they arrive at the area now known as Crime Alley. Oliver visits the very place where his parents were killed, where he opens up to Eddie, saying that it was his fault, all because he had to see Zorro, described by him as "a silly movie about a 'hero' who wears a costume and fights crime". Suddenly, thugs appear, and despite Eddie's pleas, Oliver fights the thugs. Using martial arts that he has learned, Oliver fights, disarms, and defeats the thugs. Oliver and Eddie drop the thugs off at Star City PD, but their report is almost ignored until Oliver is recognized by a 13-year-old fan - Chloe Hilton. The two have a conversation, and Chloe introduces her father, someone Oliver already knows from when he was six: Detective Lucas Hilton, Ignoring the board with notes and arrows pointing towards Merlyn Corp, he asks Hilton who killed his parents. Hilton shows Oliver the file on his parents, which is now a cold case because the killer was never caught. When asked about the thugs or even his family's company, all Oliver says is that he's leaving soon, because he wants nothing to do with Star City. As Oliver leaves, Hilton asks about Damian Merlyn, whom he's meeting the next day. While he nods, he notices if Hilton's words are a warning. Meeting Merlyn the next day, Oliver asks about the investigation, and Merlyn notes the police commissioner is a close personal friend. As Oliver is about to sign, because of the sight of Eddie and an old friend called Walter Steele, he explains that he will look over the papers at his home. Now an intern, Steele reveals his father's "accidental" death, while Merlyn needs the papers signed first thing in the morning, for his 15th birthday is only two days away. Knowing the danger Oliver is now in, Eddie suggests a lawyer, and Oliver thinks of another old friend - Tommy Merlyn. Right in the middle of a costume party, Tommy welcomes Oliver back and says he will look at the papers. Oliver decides to stay at the party, even though he hates costumes, because he spots a stunning woman wearing a canary costume: Dinah Lance. Oliver is pulled away from Tommy, who wants him to meet his sister. While waiting, Oliver talks to an attractive girl wearing an angel costume. When Dinah and Tommy come into the room, Oliver learns the angel is , Tommy's sister, Tamara. Because Dinah says she is "saving" Oliver from where he is, Tamara leaves. Oliver becomes angry at Dinah, so she leaves too. Before he can do anything, Oliver is informed by Eddie that Hilton called for him at Queen Chemicals. Arriving there, and noticing the green pool of hazardous chemicals, Hilton and Oliver, only to learn neither one called the other. It's a trap! The access hatch closes and locks, and water rushes in.
  2. "Reunion"- Working together, Hilton and Oliver find a tunnel 20 feet overhead, and using acrobatics, Oliver gets himself and Hilton to safety. Both agree that someone wants them dead. Nearby, Merlyn watches. The next morning, Oliver and Hilton meet with Steele and his mother, talking about his late father, whom they described him as "nervous" just before he died. As Steele says he will check around, Oliver meets with Tommy, who demands that he does not sign the papers. While this happens, Tommy gets two phone calls from his sister and his father, with him playing both sides. All of a sudden, Tommy's mood swings and he tells Oliver to sign the papers. Oliver changes the subject and asks about Tamara , and Tommy tells him the location of where she works. As they leave, two sedans come up behind the Rolls and open fire. A chase begins, and ends at where Tamara works: the Star City Youth Shelter. Meeting Tamara, Oliver apologizes and asks for a date, successfully getting back on her good side. Back at Queen Manor, Oliver creates a ruse to explain why he did not turn in the papers yet. Just then, Hilton calls and tells him what Steele found: weekly shipments of hazardous waste. Oliver wants to meet, but Hilton tells Oliver to stay. Oliver gets an idea, alarming Eddie. Later, Oliver arrives at Wayne Chemicals, dressed all in dark green, and follows Hilton, Rupert Montoya and Frank Pike. Suddenly, the three encounter the bad guys. Oliver helps, but stays out of sight the whole time. After defeating the last guy (with a crossbow arrow), he and Eddie leave, with Oliver commenting that he may have found something he's good at. Oliver and Eddie meet with Hilton, learning the chemicals were drugs, and later hear that the head bad guy hung himself. Later, Oliver is greeted by a surprise birthday party with Tommy and Tamara, Dinah, Billie and Walter Steele, Lucas and Chloe Hilton, Pike, and Montoya. It's midnight, and Oliver Queen is 16! Tommy destroys the papers Oliver was told to sign, as he now owns QueenCorp. Damian comes to the party, and tells Oliver that his stock might take a beating if word gets out about the drugs. He gives him a book, "Business for Beginners", and after he leaves, Oliver tells everyone that he has a lot to learn and he's staying in Star City.

Walter is unaware that Harper is actually a steel-wielding crime fighter known as Guardian, and Pierce uncovers a crime when a Red Ninjas group conspires to steal information. Meanwhile, Oliver begins to experience flashbacks on the night of his parents' deaths and begins to suspect Damian Merlyn knows something about it. Pierce stops the Red Ninjas with help from Walter and Hilton. Hilton allows Guardian to leave the scene while he and Walter promise to keep his secret. In flashbacks, Robert and Moira Queen were threatened by mobster Salvatore Lestrade. Against Robert's wishes, Moira asked Damian for help in protecting them against Lestrade. Harper manages to defeat the Red Ninjas, led by Frederick Tuckman's son Randall Tuckman, when they try to steal information from Merlyn Corp. However, when the baby, Flint, ages from a newborn to a 7-year-old in less than a day, it becomes clear he is aging at a rapid rate and they turn to Tommy for help. Damian wants Hilton and Steele to stop investigating him which is why he goes to District Attorney Janice Porter for help. Knowing that Porter embodies an ends-justify-the-means attitude towards her work, Damian legally obtains evidence against Frederick Tuckman after visiting his childhood friend Adam Hunt for information on him. Damian gives Porter a recording of Hunt reciting all of Tuckman's crimes, including a list of five shell companies owned by him. Damian tells Porter hat the companies' books have enough RICO violations to put Tuckman behind bars and offers this evidence in exchange for her dropping the investigation against Merlyn Corp, assuring her that the lab explosion was an accident. Porter agrees to it and later on pulls strings to get Hilton and Steele to stop investigating. She then tells Commissioner Grorgan, Hilton's superior, that her her office "uncovered" new evidence against Tuckman, who will face indictment for several counts of money laundering, among others. Tommy becomes suspicious of Damian's plans.

Oliver manages to save Felix in the end, however, he no longer wishes to be friends with him due to Felix putting himself at risk in the first place. Meanwhile, Tommy tells Walter and Hilton that Damian was the one who got Porter to go after Tuckman and tells them about a project that Damian was working on that was thought to be extinct. Tommy tells Hilton that he thinks Damian is not only responsible for the death of Oliver's parents but also for the decline of Star City and corruption within, but they may also be trying to kill him this whole time. Oliver ,with help from Walter, discover that the two girls were never shot, but were stabbed; the M.E's report was supposed to go to the detectives, but Billings intercepted it. Oliver then re-examined the tape to discover it was faked--the key point was the static interference that happened before the showing of him killing the girls. Oliver noticing he has to stop Billings before Tommy is brought to Slabside. Oliver sets up a meeting with him, Billings, Tommy, Hilton, and Walter.
