Production[]

The film will be directed by Tom Dey (Marmaduke) and produced by Jordan Kerner (Charlotte’s Web).

The film stars the voices of the animals including main stars of Oscar nominee Nicole Kidman (Moulin Rouge!, Happy Feet) and Academy Award winner and X-Men star Hugh Jackman (X-Men, Van Helsing, Wolverine, This Prestige, Flushed Away, Happy Feet). Other voice performances such as John Leguizamo (Ice Age), Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean, Elizabeth: The Golden Age), Harry Connick Jr (The Iron Giant), Kiefer Sutherland (24), Alfre Woodard (Miss Ever’s Boys), Eric Idle, Saoirse Ronan and Patrick Stewart (X-Men).

Other lending their voice roles for the animals were Ice Age’s Ray Romano and Queen Latifah, as well as Reba McEntire and Tony Shalhoub.

Development[]

Like Racing Stripes, the animals were made and designed by VFX computer graphics known as CG while some animals were made by CGI. Also, all of the real animals were filmed while they hired mouths to move unlike real animals which they bark instead of talk.

All of the animals’ vocalisations were recorded in the studio, and also from movies. Unlike Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, The animals talk but like Spirit, the animals’ thoughts were narrated by the actors, actress and celebrities in an animated film.

Casting[]

In January 2012, casting was announced by casting director Ned Lott, who cast performances such as The Incredibles, Cars, Pirates of the Caribbean, Zambezia and Khumba. Other Additional casting directors were Gail Stevens (Gnomeo and Juliet, Justin and the Knights of Valour).

On March 2, 2012, Nicole Kidman was cast as the voice of Blossom, because John Stevenson stated that "Kidman has a nice animal ring to it and we loved her performance on Happy Feet and imagine if a Penguin get to be a dog, she will be a dog, no wonder Nicole brought her doggie in convention minute. It’s always good." Kidman was best known for her roles such as Moulin Rouge!, The Others, Australia, Paddington, and obviously Batman Forever.
