The Batman: Sub Zero is a 2015 superhero action film based on the DC Comics character Batman. It is a remake of the 1998 animated film Batman & Mr. Freeze and stars Eric Bana, Logan Lerman, Emma Stone, Geoffrey Rush, Bryan Cranston and Patrick Stewart. The film is also a sequel to The Batman: Mask of the Phantasm.
Victor Fries (Patrick Stewart), since his encounter with Batman which turned him into supervillain Mr. Freeze, has found a home in the Arctic Circle with his cryogenically frozen wife Nora, an Inuit boy named Kunac and two polar bears named Hotchka and Shaka. One day, a submarine crashes into his lair and shatters Nora's tube, causing her condition to rapidly deteriorate. Desperate, Freeze returns to Gotham City and enlists the greedy Dr. Achilles Milo to find a cure. Milo finds that Nora needs an organ transplant but due to her rare blood type, finding a donor will be impossible. Freeze decides that they will kidnap someone and use them as a live donor, bribing Milo with a nugget of gold from a vein he discovered back in the Arctic.
Freeze learns that the perfect match for Nora is the daughter of Police Comissioner James Gordon, Barbara Gordon. Freeze attacks a cafe she is at with her boyfriend Dick Grayson and kidnaps her. Freeze takes her to an abandoned oil rig and explains the situation; Barbara states that she is willing to go through with the procedure, but not at the oil rig, so Freeze imprisons her. When Barbara realises that she is surely die as result of the operation, she escapes with the help of Kunac just as Batman and Dick, in the form of Robin, arrive.
During the ensuing confrontation, Milo panics and tries to shoot the heroes, accidentally hitting a fuel tanker. As the oil rig goes up in flames, Milo chooses to abandon Freeze and tries to escape in a boat, only to be killed by falling debris. Freeze's leg is broken and he orders that Batman first saves Kunac, Nora and Barbara. After getting them to safety, Batman returns for his injured enemy. However, despite his best attempts, Freeze falls into the water to his seeming death as batman looks on sadly before escaping. The group flees in the Batwing as the rig explodes.
As the film ends, we see news reports that Wayne Enterprises has funded a successful organ transplant for Nora, saving her life. Freeze, limping through the wintery wastelands, catches sight of one such report on a TV in a bar as he looks through the window. He smiles and sheds a tear of joy before walking away into the snow.
