- ―The tagline of the film.
The Amazing Digital Circus vs. Murder Drones is a 2024 live-action/adult animated action science fiction comedy film written and directed by Blake Edmonds. A crossover between The Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones and an international co-production of Australia, United States and Hong Kong, the film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Nicole Kidman, Brendan Matthews, Terrance McPherson and Will Yun Lee. Set between the events of Murder Drones episodes "Mass Destruction" and "Absolute End" and The Amazing Digital Circus episodes "Candy Carrier Chaos!" and "The Mystery of Mildenhall Manor", the film follows General Zachary Ferrell (MacLachlan) and his fellow Resistance soldiers as they, with the help of the Digital Circus crew and the Murder Drones, contend with deadly Chinese triads that are trying to free their former leaders out of prison and onto American soil.
Plot[]
In 1912, in the golden sands of British-ruled Egypt, an Egyptian boy arrives at an ancient temple on camelback, greeting his friends before they venture inside. As they explore, a British archaeologist enters, searching for lost artifacts. Suddenly, a spaceship descends outside the temple—it's the Worker Drones, scanning for resources. The archaeologist and the boy exchange astonished glances as the futuristic and ancient worlds collide.
Years later, in a dystopian cyberpunk world, General Zachary Ferrell, Captain Dennis Fuller, and Colonel Marcus Coffman of the Resistance launch an operation to take down the "Human Tank", a flamethrower-wielding maniac dressed as Boba Fett from Star Wars. He terrorizes the streets, torching everything while blasting the Imperial March on his Walkman. After an explosive battle, Ferrell shoots his flamethrower’s fuel tank, sending him flying into a gas truck, which erupts in a massive fireball.
After the fight, Resistance intelligence receives alarming news: the deadly Chinese Triads, led by the ruthless Kwan Ho Ching, are plotting to smuggle their former leaders out of prison and onto American soil. If successful, the Triads could become an unstoppable force in the criminal underworld. Just as Ferrell and his team strategize, a glitch in reality occurs—portals suddenly open, and characters from The Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones are sucked into their world. Pomni, Jax, Ragatha, Gangle, Kinger, Zooble, and Caine emerge first, confused by their sudden displacement. Soon after, Uzi Doorman, N, and V from Murder Drones crash-land, narrowly avoiding being detected by Triad spies.
After initial chaos and confusion, the Digital Circus crew and the Murder Drones reluctantly team up with the Resistance, realizing they are now in a much more dangerous reality. Meanwhile, Kwan tightens his grip, ordering assassinations and preparing a cargo ship full of human trafficking victims destined for Copper 9.
The Resistance and their new allies launch a daring raid on the Triad’s headquarters, a neon-lit Chinatown fortress. Explosive battles ensue:
- Jax comedically dismantles a Bruce Lee wannabe (Lim), leading to Lim choosing suicide over facing Kwan’s wrath.
- Captain Fuller battles Wang, Kwan’s top enforcer, in an intense martial arts fight. Fuller finally sends Wang flying into a piranha pool using an Aikido toss.
- Ferrell and Fuller confront Kwan, leading to an intense shootout. Kwan’s brutality is evident as he eliminates even his own men for failing him.
- Pomni and Uzi chase Captain She Jun Hao, the Triad smuggler, but Kwan ultimately betrays and strangles him with a wire garrote.
As the battle climaxes, Kwan’s older brother, Ho Yin, attempts to avenge him but is shot by Fuller. Kwan, in a final act of vengeance, engages Ferrell and Fuller in a brutal brawl, but is ultimately gunned down by the Resistance leaders. With his death, the Triad empire crumbles.
With the Triads defeated, the Resistance celebrates their hard-earned victory. However, the portals that brought the Digital Circus and Murder Drones characters begin to reopen. Though reluctant to leave, Pomni, Uzi, and their friends bid farewell to the Resistance. As they step through the portals, Ferrell and Fuller exchange a knowing glance, realizing their strange allies may be gone—but their impact remains.
