This is what the cetofelis looked like before their extinction. They lived from Miocene 18 million years ago to Early Holocene 10,000 years ago.

Cetofelis Skull

A skull of a cetofelis that lived in the last Ice Age.

Cetofelis (name meaning "Whale Cat" due to its body plan resembling a big cat's body, and its head resembling an early land whale's head) is an extinct large mammal carnivore that was related to modern day fossas, civets, hyenas, meerkats, mongooses, genets, and binturongs and was also a direct ancestors of all modern dylanuses, but was almost pure carnivorous, it was quadrupedal, it was about the size of an African lion, and it resembled a big cat, but with a long-snouted head and upright-pointed ears, they prefered to feed on tapirs, deer, bison (and other bovines), pronghorns, and rodents, rather than dylanuses as they have a similar smell to the extinct cetofelis. They might have became extinct due to humans, homo sapiens, overhunting them for their fur and claws and because of cetofelises hunting young humans.
