The Tahoan Perch is a species of fish native to California's Lake Tahoe. It is also known as the saber-toothed perch due to its teeth being long and sharp. It is also known as the herring mimic perch due to its body plan being similar to that of the ocean-dwelling herring and like the herring, it can form large schools for protection against native otter predators. Despites its schooling ability, it is being threatened by invasive whales, but the conservation is helping these fish to get used to whales being present in Lake Tahoe, by having humans using genetic engineering on the fishes and people are also trying to cull some whales out of Lake Tahoe to reduce the chance of habitat loss due to the lake level rising by whales.
