Strawberry Shortcake is a 2018 American animated musical adventure film produced by Blue Sky Studios and based on the character Strawberry Shortcake by American Greetings. Directed and co-written by Tim Hill, the film stars Anna Cummer reprising her role as the titular character from the television series, with Ashley TIsdale, January Jones, Albert Brooks, Rowan Atkinson, and Michael Cera in supporting roles. In the film, Strawberry's friends are captured by a mean-spirited gargoyle in Berryworks, a village inhabited by the girls and creatures called Berrykins, so she and her well-meaning-yet-cynical new ally, Cherry Red Velvet, team up with a princess to rescue them and foil the gargoyle's plans to destroy the princess' kingdom, Daffy-Do-Dilly.
Strawberry Shortcake was released in theaters in the United States by August 24, 2018 by 20th Century Fox. The film received mixed-to-positive reviews from critics and was a box-office bomb in North America, but performed better internationally, grossing $222 million worldwide. This was the last Blue Sky Studios film before the acquisition of 21st Century Fox by The Walt Disney Company in 2019, as well as the final Blue Sky Studios film to receive a G rating before the studio's closure in 2021.
