Square-Enix vs. Capcom 2: Clash of the Warriors is an upcoming crossover fighting game developed and produced by Capcom and distributed by Disney in junction with Square-Enix. It is the second game in the Square-Enix vs. Capcom series and the sequel to Square Enix vs. Capcom: When Worlds Collide. Producer Yoshinori Ono returns along with Kazunori Kadoi (Resident Evil: Revelations 2) and Tatsuya Namora (Dissidia: Final Fantasy), designers of the Capcom and Square-Enix characters and levels from the first game, respectively.

Marvel characters make an appearance in a collaboration with Disney (who also own the IP rights to the Kingdom Hearts series), as seen in the first game, albeit much more integral to the game's plot and greater in number this time.

The game is slated for a late 2018 release date for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows.

After saving the earth from a takeover at the hands of Gilgamesh (Final Fantasy XIII) by unleashing Pandora following the first tournament, Ingrid (Capcom Fighing Evolution) once again pits the Square-Enix and Capcom worlds against each other as they're consumed by its power. Voids are created, and new faces emerge on both sides of the ongoing battle, each with their own motivations as they try to counteract it's power while the B.S.A.A. and S.H.I.E.L.D. deal with the string of terrorist plots that emerge from it. During their bout, Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver try to warn the two sides of a new, far bigger threat that's been awakened by the power of Pandora: none other than the Kraken.

In the game's opening cut scene, anti-bio-terror field agent siblings Chris and Claire Redfield along with B.S.A.A.'s Rebecca Chambers meet with S.H.I.E.L.D. at a special joint meeting, where Nick Fury explains that a supernatural box has crash-landed in Europe following M. Bison's defeat, dragging Gilgamesh with him as he tried to destroy the "other" (Capcom) realm (shown by Gilgamesh's corpse smothered underneath the box). Fury notes that this box had been seen previously in Antarctica in a separate conflict, where researchers had officially dubbed it Pandora, and, much like before, it released a consuming power, setting in motion a chain of insidious developments. Among these developments is turning already-mutated persons into super-powered zombies (dubbed Pandora Zombies), wherein Neo-Umbrella is said to be looking to create a whole new breed of "advanced" B.O.W.s using this intel.

Setting off separate campaigns between the 3 of them, Claire begins searching for leads while Rebecca heads an S&R Squad, attempting to liberate endangered civilians. Chris, meanwhile, goes looking for Jill.

It then cuts to the open world, where Scarlet Witch is haunted by visions of a destructive monster, the Kraken, having been awakened by the power of Pandora while growing even more powerful in the process. Her brother, Quicksilver, suggests warning the others caught in its crosshairs while Wanda insists on first finding the wielder of the box. She then starts fielding visions of the culprit: Ingrid.

Much like the previous game, each character has their own unique, branching story with side-missions and cut-scenes preceding each 3-on-3 tag team battle in the game's Arcade mode. In start contrast, however, you get to control characters on both sides of the coin. For certain chapters, you take control of "special" base roster characters on the other side and complete a side-mission before facing 3 hidden characters in an unlockable side story mode. You must successfully win a 3-on-1- handicap match in order to advance:

  • Square-Enix:
    • Open World Mission (Carnage)-Slaughter as many civilians as possible until your Hyper Meter is up to level 5 before facing the intervening team of Iron Man, Captain America and Spider-Man.
    • Side-Mission (Agent 47)-Agent 47 answers a contract on Frank Castle by an anonymous individual after slaughtering a group of smugglers trying to obtain Pandora. Take down bodyguards inside Hells Kitchen before facing the team of Punisher, DareDevil and Elektra.
  • Capcom:
    • Open World Mission (Tyrant)-Slaughter as many civilians as possible until your Hyper Meter is at full. You will then face the team of Jill, Leon and Ada.
    • Side-Mission (Chris Redfield)-After discovering that Alex Wesker issued the contract on Castle in order to safely harness Pandora's energy for B.O.W. experimentation, you must slaughter many Pandora Zombies until your Hyper Meter is at level 5. You will then face the team of Jessica, mutant Piers and Jake.

Your 3 selected characters will then make the save on the 3 downed hidden characters in the following cutscene, and 2 more randomly-selected AI opponents join the fray in a 3-on-3 tag match as you revert back to your selected characters.

Also new to the game during main story battles is the the special Tag Meter that accompanies your HM. After obtaining a full Tag Meter, you can control 2 point characters simultaneously for a short period of time until it goes empty. However, doing so will drain both fighter's Hyper Meter.

In addition, there are set chapters in the game where you take control of a set character in a side-mission before facing a rival character, Scarlet Witch-Ingrid being one of those. Which one you play as is opposite of your chosen alignment.

After defeating the Kraken and completing the Arcade Mode, you will unlock a special B.S.A.A. vs S.H.I.E.L.D. Story Mode. You control a set group of characters in each chapter of the team you select before facing a mutant Alex Wesker, powered by a triplet virus merging the T-Phobos virus with harnessed Pandora and Tatsui no Hado energy, in a 3-on-1 Boss Battle.

Game Modes

  • Story Mode: Play a character-unique story-oriented mode complete with Action-Adventure side-missions, rival battles, cut-scenes and the Kraken boss battle.
  • Arcade Mode: Play against 8 random tag teams in 3-on-3 matches without side-missions, cutscenes, endings or boss battles.
  • Versus: Play 1-on-1, 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 single matches against a CPU opponent(s) or against another player(s).
  • Scramble Mode: Fight a series of 2-on-2 battles with 4 fighters fighting simultaneously.
  • Gauntlet: Advance your way through a series of bosses with their own set of challenges you must complete. Your health meter from the previous battle carries over to the next with a small replenishing of health after advancing through each fight.
  • Rival Mode (DLC only): Complete one of two downloadable side story modes canon to the game's main story featuring multi-action mission chapters and set rival battles before advancing to a Double Boss Battle.
  • Pandora: Special game mode where, when one of your characters life meter reaches 25%, you can sacrifice one of your partners to activate Pandora, increasing your point character's power substantially. However, his/her health continuously drains as long as he/she is an active fighter. He/she can be swapped in and out with your other character to replenish health. If you fail to KO your remaining opponent(s) while active, he/she is defeated.
  • Training: Hone your skills against a motionless AI opponent.
  • Undead: Play a 3rd person hack-n'-slash/shooter equivalent of Call of Duty's Zombies mode in the style of Devil May Cry featuring Pandora-powered undead creatures (these range from zombies, vampires and demons). Undead critters grow more powerful, aggressive and numerous as you advance through each level after a certain period of time elapses. Health and Hyper Meters are available, allowing you to use Hyper Combos/Special Moves (with the Marvel/Square-Enix vs. Capcom fighting animations) after obtaining a full HM. You can also purchase weapons/upgrades via XP points similar to CoD Zombies. Fight your way through a continuous string of Undead until you die. Offline multiplayer also available.
  • Customization: Customize the colors on your characters.
  • Options: Configure game settings.

  • Tournament: Fight in parties of 16 players in elimination brackets until a champion is crowned. Once eliminated, you enter spectator mode where you observe and commentate (via headset) the remaining battles.
  • King of the Hill: The crowned champion fights a series of challengers until defeated, then pushed to the back of the queue.
  • Undead: Play with 2 or 3 partners in a team-based online Undead mode. Once dead, you enter spectator mode where you can observe other players. Game continues until all players are dead.
  • Versus: Play single matches against online players in 1-v-1, 2-v-2 or 3-v-3 modes.
  • Scramble: 2-on-2 tag battles with other matched players with all 4 players fighting simultaneously.
  • Mosh Pit: Special Tag Match. Party up with other players in 6-v-6 tag battles, where each player on a team controls a single character who can be tagged or called in for assists at any time until all 6 players on a team are eliminated.
