Scream: The Video Game is a 2025 narrative survival horror video game developed by Law Entertainment and published by Green Forest Interactive. The game was released digitally on May 25, 2025, alongside another critically acclaimed Law Entertainment video game, Masquerade, with Scream: The Video Game having a physical release on August 2, 2025.

Like most other Law Entertainment releases, Scream: The Video Game features narrative chapters with cutscene-based stories and later on free roaming gameplay. The base game features 5 chapters telling the story of the first Scream film, with other DLCs telling stories from succeeding films and media in the franchise.

Gameplay[]

Base game[]

The base game of Scream: The Video Game includes five narrative chapters that reimagine the events of the first Scream film. As with other Law Entertainment games, these chapters are primarily narrative-focused however, the player chooses certain actions during these narrative cutscenes that reshape the story, with a different ending for each game. Also featured in the free-roam scenes, are players being put up against Ghostface, either Billy Loomis or Stu Macher, as they try to survive one of the killers.

As this is a narrative-focused episodic game, choices inside and out of the narrative matter. For instance, during Chapter 2: On the Hunt, Randy Meeks is stalked by Stu during the narrative cutscenes which eventually leads to the survival section of the chapter. If the player dies by Stu's hands during the free-roam survival, Randy dies with the story however, if they survive, the chapter will continue with Randy kicking Stu out of a hospital window, extending the chapter's runtime by 20 minutes by continuing Randy's story with Sidney Prescott.

To critical acclaim, Chapter 5: Curtain Call has the player play as Prescott during the free-roam survival section of this final chapter, and depending on the player's actions, Sidney can actually die by the hands of either Billy or Stu. After completing the entirety of the narrative base game, players are given access to Asymetrical Mode, where the 10 non-killer characters of the base game are put up against both Billy and Stu. Two random players are chosen as the roles of the two Ghostfaces, and their objective is to manipulative, hunt and kill as many of the non-killer characters as possible within the time range of 10 minutes.

Non-killer players then have to hide and ultimately survive the two Ghostfaces, however they are also given access to multiple objects that can be used to injure or stun the two killers. There are a total of 35 unique cutscenes that can e obtained through this mode, all being unlocked by gathering "clues" that piece together an overarching story for the mode. If all 35 pieces are collected throughout multiple rounds, and all 35 cutscenes play, all the players in that specific server will get an alternative rewrite of the original film's ending, and all the non-killer players will be awarded with an exclusive character only featured within the game mode: Maureen Prescott, who is voiced by Jennifer Coolidge.

On November 29, 2025, with the game's release on the Steam Deck, a single-player mode was added called The Lonely Genre Mode, in which a player can play as either Billy or Stu and play against offline bots. Initially only being available to play as Ghostface, on December 24, 2025, the mode was updated so that players could choose to play as a non-killer against offline bots acting as the killers.

DLCs[]

Downloadable content for the game feature chapters, characters and themes related to other media in the franchise.

On January 31, 2026, a Scream II DLC was released, reimagining the second film's plot with continuity from the player's playthrough of the base game. For instance, if the player has Sidney die at the end of the base game, Sidney will not appear as a character in the DLC however, if the player managed to let Sidney survive until the end of the base game, Sidney is present.

This is the same concept with all other further released DLCs. Four other DLCs were released for the game, these being: Scream III, released on March 21, 2026; Scream 4 and Scream 2022, both of which released on May 25, 2026 for the game's first year anniversary; and a collaborative DLC with Dead by Daylight released on October 31, 2026 which adds Danny Johnson from that game as a playable killer in Asymmetrical Mode.

That following November, the first video game-exclusive storyline was added with the DLC, Blood of the Indigenous. Following a Ghostface massacre in a rural Western-themed Native-American village set in 2024, the DLC adds a multitude of new characters as well as featuring 5 new chapters for the game.

In total, there are 20 new chapters as of current with the introduction of DLCs.

Development[]

During PAX East in 2023, Law Entertainment had announced four games that will be released by them from 2024 through 2026, one of them being an untitled Scream game. When asked if the game will merely be another survival game, Law Entertainment panelists replied that all of the games they had mentioned will be narrative and episodic, with a mix of both storytelling, puzzle-solving and eventual survival. It was then also revealed that the Scream video game will be the very first game published by up-and-coming video game publishing company, Green Forest Interactive.

One big thing about Law Entertainment, is that we love telling stories. That is precisely what are next few games are going to be about. We are immensely lucky to have writers and developers that use their artistic collaboration to create such high-quality games. Focusing on just violence and designs are why certain games fall flat in the year they are released.
―Game director Oday Gordon on the game's narrative gameplay.

On November 31, 2024, Law Entertainment released a teaser poster on Twitter, confirming the name of the game to be Scream: The Video Game and the set release date of May 25, 2025. On the same day, a slideshow featuring assets from Five Nights at Freddy's: The Conspiracy, Scream: The Video Game, Masquerade and Winter Kills: Ties that Bind was posted as a short on the official Law Entertainment YouTube channel, confirming the characters of Sidney Prescott, Billy Loomis and Stu Macher for the game.

On February 7, 2025, Law Entertainment released the official trailer for the game on their YouTube channel, as well as putting up merchandise related to the game on their official website. From 2 March, up until the game's release on May 25, 2025, Law Entertainment did a promotional round across Europe to promote the game, to their success.

On May 25, 2025, Scream: The Video Game released. On June 11, 2025, Law Entertainment revealed on Twitter that the game already has DLCs in the works, with Jennifer Coolidge revealing a behind-the-scenes video on her Instagram of her voice-acting for Maureen Prescott, confirming un upcoming game mode for the game.

Reception[]

The game received a 73/100 on Metacritic, indicating "generally favourable" reviews. The game was praised for continuing Law Entertainment's narrative and episodic gameplay, while also still holding its place as a survival horror game.

The average consensus on Destructoid has the game reviewed with a 8.0/10, with Torielle Mcdowell on the same site saying: "I was skeptical of Scream: The Video Game due to the disastrous horror video game adaptions in the past, however I should have known that a company such as Law Entertainment, known for their storytelling and puzzle-solving mixture, would create an incredibly pleasant game. A huge step for adapted horror video games, Scream: The Video Game is incredibly choice-heavy, with everything you choose to do during the cutscenes, and survival gameplay, ultimately working towards what the ending to your story will be. A genius concept for a genius franchise."

GameSpot gave the game a 7/10, with the featured review of Yajeel Bell reading: "This game is officially an entire month old, and it is already my No.1 game of the year. Impactful, suspenseful and meta-correct, Scream: The Video Game is here to stay as a title among the greats, being like a storybook that you are the author of. From the designs of the characters to the story of the game and the voice acting, it almost feels like a Scream animated film. By far one of the best horror video game adaptions, the only bad thing about it, is the lack of an OC! C'mon, lol."

Both IGN and IMDb gave it a 8.1/10 based on 153,204 and 102,300 votes and reviews, respectively.
