SCARAB is PC game. In an empty world of futuristic sky platforms and mechanised catacombs full of death traps, the gods Ra and Osiris are at war with one another across various locations named after Egyptian cities. Using sophisticated technology and war machines, one side must win either through power by building towers or via totally annihilating the enemy.

Factions

  • Ra

The yellow faction and the good guys. In one player mode you fight for Ra. Ra towers are yellow and red obelisks with spinning blades.

  • Osiris

The blue faction and the bad guys. You can play as them in multiplayer mode only. Osiris towers are squat, short structures with a spinning crystal on top.

War Machines/Robots

  • Anubis

Jack of all trades, Master of none. Neither slow or extremely agile. Has a variety of different types of weapon such as Slowbos (very slow flying but powerful missiles.) and Lasers. Moves at moderate speed. Moderately armoured.

  • Horus

Very fast and agile and can fly with the Fly model. It has jet packs, you see... However very lightly armoured so can’t survive heavy damage or direct battles. More of a sniper or guerrilla fighter. Only really has access to the Fly module and all sorts of deadly kinds of mines to play with. Ie set up death traps... such as the Crawler and the Jumper mine.

  • Sekhmet

Heavily armoured and equipped like a tank with highly destructive firepower. Unfortunately all that armour weighs it down. Best when fighting a cornered enemy but watch out as most of the Sekmet’s weapons are highly explosive and will damage you in the splash damage too. Another use for this War Machine is to attack from above using the Pineapple or Phalanx. Although you can’t in game for technical issues because of how old the game was. In animations this War Machine has shoulder mounted cannons so it can shoot with its main arm cannons and shoulder cannons at the same time... making it extremely deadly...

Locations

  • Aswan

Has a pyramid in the middle and a sky path to the north and flying platforms. But very few places to hide aside from a tunnel in the far north eastern corner.

  • Luxor

Very flat and open ramps and platforms but most of it is underground tunnels and chambers.

  • Karnak

Very yellow with spires or obelisks in the middle with an elevator platform that takes you up into the suspended structure up above. Also lots of underground tunnels and chambers to get lost in. Great for hiding towers though.

  • Memphis

Has a lake with cranes/Ibises in it. The first map where you start getting some very unfair scenarios such as four enemy warriors vs yourself!!

  • Helwan

Has a huge sphinx. Personally they should have saved that for the Giza map. Also heavily cluttered with buildings.

  • Giza

Very sparse and open at first. But most of it is underground tunnels.

  • Cairo

Very cluttered and has a huge statue.

Things

  • Warriors

You. And your allies, if you have some on that mission, and your enemies. You and your allies are yellow, the enemy are blue. Shoot them until they die.

  • Shield

put up your shields and you have a sphere of panels to protect you from enemy fire. But eventually they break and damaged panels are white and opaque, obscuring your vision.

  • Animals

Ie Ibises. Does nothing to you, you can shoot them for fun.

  • Ship you’ll see a yellow ship and a blue one flying about from time to time. Yours is yellow and Osiris is blue obviously. Strangely they can deliver towers underground but not modules... If destroyed, you or your opponent will not be able to order modules or towers for a while until a new ship arrives. So you could just shoot down their ship... but if the enemy sees you doing this they will stop you! The ship delivers towers and modules to the coordinates you were at when you requested them. So don’t run off!
  • Tower

Very important as they produce Power/Control. The team producing the most power or control over the map until the timer runs down wins. If your power or control is contested, you’ll see white areas on the mini map where yellow for Ra and blue for Osiris mix together. Then destroy enemy towers to get a massive boost in control. Also don’t built multiple towers together as you get a power saturation and your power bar won’t go up as far.

When a tower arrives it is inert and looks like a little pyramid. It will soon morph into a larger form and start producing power.

  • Sarcophagus.

Each team can only have one each and can use each other’s. So don’t leave it out in the open where the enemy can find and use it, or destroy it. Also you are extremely vulnerable inside a sarcophagus. If it is blown up while you’re inside, you’re dead.

Enter this strange device to slowly heal and restore your mechanical warrior. However it cannot restore shields.

  • Ankh

There are four on each map. Stand directly under one and you’ll either die in a violent explosion or be healed instantly and it fully restores shields!

  • Module

grey polyhedrons. Contains goodies and weapons for you. If picked up. Some can be ordered by drop ship at your location, others are unique to to the map, so grab them before your enemy does for a mystery prize!

  • Floating platform.

See through and either goes up and down as an elevator or flies across the map.

  • Structures.

The bread and butter of the map.

Modules

Aside from your basic guns you have access to many different abilities and weapons.

  • Rapid fire.

Fire bullets faster. The blue and yellow squares you’re firing on mouse click.

  • Long shot. Range of fire increased so you hit things that are further away. For sniping.
  • High jump. Jump higher.
  • Phalanx. Bullets turn yellow and do enormous damage.
  • Fly. Allows Horus to fly with its jet packs. However you need modules of rocket fuel in your module slots too.
  • Rocket fuel. Needed alongside Fly in order to fly as Horus.
  • Radar. See stuff on the mini map like allies, enemies, towers and modules.
  • Scan. Tells you what module is lurking in front of you by having the name float on top.
  • Combo. Rapid fire, Long shot, radar, scan and high jump together as one module to save slots.
  • Mines. Basic pyramid shaped land mines. Explodes when an enemy goes near them.
  • Jumper Mine. When an enemy activates this mine it rockets up into the air and then lands on them dealing lethal damage. Looks like a tiny canopic jar.
  • Crawler Mine. Pyramids until they detect an enemy and then they grow legs and follow the enemy mechanoid blowing up on contact.
  • Shrapnel mine. Looks like an ankh and sprays shrapnel on explosion.
  • TMines. Mines that only go off near an enemy tower. Blows up on your enemy when they try to lay a tower near by.
  • Missiles. A salvo of basic but still lethal rockets.
  • GToAIR. Ground to air missiles. Ideal for attacking a flying Horus or enemy ships.
  • Tracker. Guided missiles. Useful for attacking ships or Horus.
  • Tmissile. Missiles that only fire when aimed at a tower.
  • Slowbo. A very slow moving but deadly missile exclusive to Anubis.
  • Masher. Artillery weapon that fires shells in an arc. Best used from a raised area over looking an enemy warrior below you.
  • Pineapple. Same as Masher but the shells bounce about for a bit before exploding.
  • Cluster bomb. Missile that breaks up on impact into smaller ones.
  • Laser. Fire red lasers that pierce shields. Anubis only.
  • Fire wall. A wall of fire that damages allies and enemies alike if they try to walk through this wall of fire. Block passage ways with it,
  • Cobras. An egg that then hatched into cobras that bite the feet of anyone nearby.
  • Locusts. Eats your shield if you go near these green locust.
  • Plague. Blue and yellow locusts but damages your warrior directly and doesn’t care for allies or enemies.
  • Wadjet Eye. A big floating eye symbol that fires lasers at anyone near it.
  • MKULTRA. Screws up your vision and controls as a computer virus mucks about with your mechanical warrior.
  • S.C.A.R.A.B. A nuclear bomb! Extremely lethal!
  • Stealth. Turn invisible for a short while.
  • X Ray. See everything in wire frames and see towers, Warriors and sarcophagi.
  • Infra Red. See everything in infra red.
  • Teleport. Be transported somewhere randomly when used. Useful for escaping danger but because you could end up anywhere... Even in the path of another enemy...
  • Smokebomb. Leave distracting smoke and flee!
  • Flare. Same as smokebomb but used on night maps.
  • Repulsar.
  • Jammer. Jams an enemy’s radar.
  • Mortar. A trajectory weapon that fires in an arc.
  • TOW. A remote control rocket. Fire and you then control the rocket for a while as you fly it to its target. Very useful against ships!
