The Reapers, also known as Homo Vacuus or Subject-773, are a type of predatory mutant that appeared on Earth in the aftermath of the Great Dawnfall. They have a humanoid physique, a slightly stooped posture, and are roughly the same height as an average human. They have no eyes, but their jaws can open wide, revealing retractable tentacles that they use to feed on blood.

Biology[]

Reapers appear to be tall, humanoid mutants with a slender build but robust musculature. This gives them physical strength, which is further enhanced by their sharp, backward-curving claws. However, some of their bones are visible, such as their ribs and spine, and their bone structure is quite strong. They can move on two legs or four, which helps them hunt, sneak, and stalk. One of their most notable and bizarre features is the complete absence of eyes. Reapers are essentially nocturnal predators whose natural habitat is deep within the Demonic Corruption Zones, where they build their nests. They are usually found underground, in subway tunnels beneath cities, abandoned bunker complexes, mines, or caves. They stay in their nests during the day and only come to the surface at night to hunt. Like some true cave dwellers, they are completely blind, but their other senses, such as smell and hearing, are more refined, compensating for this. Their bodies are completely white, which stems from a lack of pigmentation in their skin, which developed for the same reasons as their blindness. They have reptilian nostrils and ears. Reapers have savage instincts, allowing them to hunt alone or in packs, and they often drag their prey back to their nests as a food source. Their feeding habits are similar to those of vampires, but they differ from them in many ways. Reapers can open their lower jaws in two directions, which have several retractable, needle-sharp fangs that, like the fangs of vipers, are capable of injecting neurotoxins. This serves to paralyze their victims so that they cannot resist while they feed on them. Their tongue is a dark-colored, needle-sharp suction organ that can suck the blood of their victims like a straw. The tongue itself is directly connected to the esophagus, and the saliva it contains reduces blood clotting. Their reproduction and life cycle are not precisely known, but the Tenebris Research Department and the Society Research Division have determined that each nest has an "alpha" or "queen" that can control the other Reapers.

Trivia[]

  • Homo Vacuus means "Empty Man" in Latin.
  • It isn't known exactly whether the Reapers are the result of genetic experiments or a native species of the Other World.
  • The Reapers were inspired by creatures from movies and video games such as Blade's Reapers, the vampires from Priest, the Bloodsuckers from the Stalker game series, the Lizard mutts from The Hunger Games, etc.
