Pyrosaurus is an extinct species of bipedal dinosaur that belonged to the prosauropod/Plateosauria family. It was also among the last ever prosauropod so far in existence, living in North America in the Late Jurassic period (155-145 million years ago), and it survived competition from sauropods by becoming omnivorous and filled a similar niche to pigs, peccaries, and bears, so it likely fed on not only fruits, seeds, or leaves, but also on insects, fish, frogs, smaller reptiles, eggs, small mammals, and carrion. It is also bizarre because its body is covered by armor to protect itself against carnivorous dinosaurs. It also has a pair of sails on its back, which probably got bright colors in males of this species to attract females of the same species. It is unknown why this species of dinosaur became extinct in the Late Jurassic.
