Prison Life is a 2000 Game Boy Color game based on the ROBLOX game with the same name. It was released on October 5, 2000, although production for the game first started on October 21, 1997. The game just like the Prison Life game on the ROBLOX website, it’s just that this version is in 2D.

The game was rated “Everyone 10+“ by the ESRB.

There are two teams: Police or Prisoner. If the player chooses police, the player will spawn in the police room, where there are guns and armor and they must arrest the prisoners who go into the room. If the police kills a prisoner who did nothing wrong 3 times, the police will automatically turn into a prisoner.

If the player chooses prisoner, the player will spawn into a random place (except the police room). They can grab guns (or even keycards) if they go into the police room, if they kill a police officer in the game. They can become criminals if they escape the prison. Most of the time, criminals try to attack the police officers (and sometimes prisoners), and sometimes fire their guns while standing at the high place in the yard mostly at night.

Production for the game started on October 21, 1997, a day after Nintendo started production for the Game Boy Color. The creators wanted it to be a single-player video game. However, they changed their mind after the game producer said, quote “Without multiplayer mode, how will the game be playable?” The game was originally set to be released on January 1, 2000. However, because of the suggested multiplayer feature, they delayed the release of the game to October 5, 2000.

Production wrapped up/finished on September 30, 2000. The only thing left to do was to colorize it.

Upcoming Sequel

A sequel, Prison Life for New Nintendo 3DS, is set to be released on October 5, 2020 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the game. When the New Nintendo 3DS XLs are ordered on or after the day the game will be released, it will come with the game. However, the game can only be played on a New Nintendo 3DS system.
