Pirates of the Caribbean is a 1973 American 2D animated action adventure fantasy comedy film produced by Walt Disney Productions and based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. Produced and directed by Wolfgang Reitherman, it is the 22st Disney animated feature film. Starring the voices of Norman Marvin, Katty Jill, Luke Wallace, Cory Burton, Angelica Heathers, and Jim Cummings, the film's plot involves a group of 17th-18th century pirates who enjoy taking treasures from towns, but they have to find a secret treasure from a mysterious island before a group of antagonistic pirates find it first, while cartoony hijinks ensues throughout the movie.
The film was released on October 21st of 1973 to a massive commercial success, earning $9,271,052 during the first month of release. The film also received positive to mixed reception, with critics praising the film for being a fun, smart, and epic adventure film as well as being based on a beloved Disneyland ride, but was criticized for having a somewhat dull script. The film is considered somewhat controversial for showing some scenes of pirates lustfully chasing and kidnapping ladies, similar to the pirates chasing ladies scene in the ride it is based on before the scene was completely changed, although it is nowhere near being as controversial as the infamous "Song of the South" as it is far less distressing and is still allowed on Disney Plus with the warning screen before the film starts, as with any present classic Disney films on the app.

The Pirates of the Caribbean movie received its live action remake on June 28, 2003, based on the success of the ride and the animated movie it is based on.
Trivia[]
- The animation of the chase scene, where the good and evil pirates try to steal the treasure, is similar to the ones used for Ichabod and Mr. Toad and The Jungle Book.
- The fight and running sequence of the pirates in this film is similar to the animations used in the 1953 film, Peter Pan (which also has pirates in the film).
