History

Development

1977-1983

On June 22, 1977, the channel launched with the first movie ever broadcasted here on Neon Nights was The Enforcer (1976).

1983-1989

In 1986, RCA Corporation was defunct, which Warner Communications owns the channel, while in 1995, Kinnevik became the co-ownership of the network.

1989-1992

Adam Griffiths thought that Neon Nights showing mostly R-rated and NC-17-rated movies is outdated, so he had planned to first create an adult animated/live-action hybrid television series called The Stupid Adventure with Limmared's School which exclusively aired on this channel. Later after the series, he has a plan that Neon Nights should become an animation channel for adults, and not for kids.

1992-2003

In 1992, The Stupid Adventure with Limmared's School was premiered on this channel along with Eek! The Cat, Gree City, Super Chicken, and its acquired programming like Todd McFarlane's Spawn, Spicy City, South Park, Æon Flux, Cartoon Sushi, Space Ghost Coast to Coast, and many others.

In 1998, Modern Times Group becomes the co-owner instead of the investment company Kinnevik, after ZTV moves from Stockholm to London.

In 2002, Jungle Juice was aired on this channel, which is the first live-action show that ever aired on this channel.

2003-2009

In 2003, Neon Nights were renamed Viasat Neon, the channel's logo added a circle with the word "Viasat" on Neon.

In 2005, the channel switches its focus from adult animations to entertainment channels, which the channel broadcasts many TV-MA-rated television shows like The Sopranos, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Spartacus, Rome, and Metalocalypse as of today.
