Michael Tägtgren (born July 13, 1974) is a Swedish musician, best known as one of the two vocalists of Swedish doom metal band Yggdrasill Burning and also the lead guitarist. Tägtgren also composes the lyrics for the band and his vocal style is made up of both spoken passages and death growls.

Personal life

Michael was born in Ängelholm, Sweden, on July 13th 1974 to an English-speaking father and a devout Christian mother. Michael's father was the senior professor at the local Ängelholm university, while his mother was a volunteer working at one of many churches. Tägtgren was tought both English and Swedish, and by age six he often accompanied his father on his travels to the UK. He was married in 2004 to Angela Lay, an English woman he met in 1998 and who had been seeing eversince, in Sweden. There first child, Peter, was born in 2004, and their second child Else in 2006. Tägtgren's wife is again pregnant, according to his official blog.

He is also an avid fan of J.R.R Tolkien and his work, hence the themes of the Yggdrasill Burning albums Ainulindalë, Ilúvatar and Atalantë. He claimed that after reading Tolkien's work he felt inspired and enthralled by his world and decided to steer the band in that direction, still remaining true to their doom metal origins.
