Mesetaornis (SciiFii)

The orange-cheeked penguin (Mesetaornis communis) is a species of penguin that originally lived during the Late Eocene in what is now La Meseta Formation on Seymour Island, Antarctica as an extinct species, Mesetaornis polaris, and was once extinct, but has since been brought back from extinction by SciiFii and introduced throughout the modern coastlines of New Zealand to help boost biodiversity. The orange-cheeked penguin has extremely long toes compared to other penguins, and actually has the fourth toe (hallux), giving it very weird feet compared to its relatives. The orange-cheeked penguin is much smaller than such species as Palaeeudyptes and Anthropornis, around the same size as Delphinornis, no taller than 70 or so centimeters in height. Like other penguins, it usually stands upright, waddle about, and is more adapted to life in the water than on land. As in other penguins, the orange-cheeked penguin primarily feeds upon fish and other aquatic organisms, and it behaves like other penguins, spending most of its time near the water and diving about for food, diving and flying through the water using its flipper-wings to do so. As a penguin, the orange-cheeked penguin lives in large flocks of up to around 500, and takes care of its young with the help of others in the group. The conservation status of the orange-cheeked penguin is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts, the orange-cheeked penguin's wide range and its tolerance to many of the human activities.
