Mega Star Entertainment (also known as Sheffield Korea) is a South Korean entertainment company established in 1981 by Kim Jung-hyun. H.P. Baxxter and Rick J. Jordan of Scooter are the current CEOs before Rick J. Jordan's departure of Scooter. It is also called Sheffield Korea, according to Alexandra Kim.

As of 2020, H.P. Baxxter of Scooter operates this company following the original founder, Kim Jung-hyun's death in 2011 due of cancer.

    • BOX Music Chart (1991-present) - Unlike Gaon, it is the most longest running chart in South Korea, since Gaon was launched in 2010. BOX Music Chart provides from BOX Top 50, the chart refreshes every Sunday.
    • BOX Album Chart (1991-present) - It provides the best selling albums and singles in South Korea. It is similar to BOX Music Chart.
    • BOX Social (1999-present) - The BOX's social media. It currently has 500,000,000+ users in all over the globe. Most of the users are Korean. It was launched in 1999, before Facebook and MySpace was popular, BOX Social was the most popular social media until 2014. BOX Social reached 100,000,000 users in 2004, it reached 200,000,000 in 2008, while 300,000,000 in 2011, and finally 500,000,000+ in 2015. Currently, it is still the most popular social media in South Korea than in other countries. Most of the users are 50% Korean, while 50% from other countries. The features are the profile (also known as account), messaging, events, likes, friends, followers, following, and more.
  • Fremantle South Korea (200?-present) (name licensed from Fremantle) - Mega Star's main production company for their TV shows and more. It produced Music BOX, Sheffield TV, MYGIRLS TV, Scooter TV and more. Since Decode Korea was sold into Channel A Korea, it was announced that Mega Star has no plans to sell Fremantle Korea. Name licensed from The Bertelsmaan Group.

Former Subsidiaries

  • MYGIRLS World (2003-2013) - A virtual world made by the girls from MYGIRLS. You can customize your avatar, play games, chat with your friends and more. In September 2013, it was announced that Kontor and MegaStar will shut down MYGIRLS World due of lack of popularity. MYGIRLS World had over 100,000,000+ users before its shut down in 2013. It was available both in English and in Korean.
  • Flipline Studios (2009-2013) - In 2009, Mega Star Entertainment bought Flipline Studios with $80 million. Mega Star later added Flipline Studios games (starting from Papa's Burgeria, Papa's Pizzeria and Papa Louie : When Pizzas Attack! were also added on BOX Games websites, in 2006 and 2007 respectively; until Papa's Cupcakeria). In 2013, it was announced that Mega Star Entertainment sold Flipline Studios, however, Flipline Studios continued as a website without an owner, starting from Papa's Pastaria.
  • BOX.co.kr former divisions:
    • BOX Games (2003-2014) - The BOX's gaming portal website. It was launched in the same date when MYGIRLS World was launched. The most played game was Papa's Freezeria. After Mega Star sold Flipline Studios, Flipline Studios games was still playable until 2014. In November 2014, it was announced that Mega Star will shut down its gaming portal. It currently redirects to BOX.co.kr when you type BOXGames.co.kr or BOX.co.kr/games. It was available both in English and Korean. Most of the users was 50% Koreans, 40% Americans, 2% Canadians, 3% British, while 5% from other country. BOX Games had over 1,000+ games before its closure. It also featured games from Nitrome, Armor Games, Miniclip, and more game publishers.
  • Decode Korea (1999-2019) - Name is licensed from Wildbrain (formerly DHX Media) for Decode Entertainment. Decode launched a studio in South Korea to produce their own shows on South Korea. Decode Korea's only produced shows are MYGIRLS TV, Sheffield TV, Music BOX, Scooter TV and other The BOX shows, which was aired on The BOX until MYGIRLS's disbandment in 2019. Decode Korea coproduces their shows with Fremantle South Korea (known as FremantleMedia Korea) and BOX Contents Media. In 2019, it was announced that Decode Korea was sold to Channel A Korea.
