Matthew Mouse and the Sponge is a 1943 animated cartoon by the Michael Shires Studios, starring Matthew Mouse. It was directed by Gerry Chiniquy and released on March 27, 1943. This was also the pilot for SpongeBill SquareShorts, as this is how Falidon got the idea for the character, since the company was friends with Shires.
