The gameplay of Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon is similar to the one from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Players must knock out the opposing team by repeatedly attacking the opponent and draining their health bar. Armageddon features 3-9 on 3-9 partner battles, similar to Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and earlier installments in the franchise. Armageddon utilizes a "free-form" tag system, known as "Active Switch", which shares similarities with Marvel vs. Capcom 3's "Team Aerial Combo" system and ''Street Fighter X Tekken'''s "Switch Cancel" system. Players can immediately switch between their team members at any point, even while mid-air or during attack animations. This provides players with the abilities to create their own offensive or defensive assists through the tag system and form continuous combos between their characters. As of August 22, 2019, this fighting game now features two more modes: Tournament and Survival. In Tournament Mode players compete on a single elimination tournament tree, while in Survival Mode, the player is forced to continue fighting until his/her characters' HP drops to zero. Also on March 14, 2020, a new mode was announced called "Daily Corruption Challenge" where the player must defeat the corruptor clones while completing missions shown at random on the daily board. When playing Online Mode, an internet connection and a Nintendo Online Membership card are both required to play this mode online.

== Story Mode: World of Corruption ==
  +
Three years after the defeat of Ultron Sigma (who was previously the final boss of Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite), Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon features the story mode called Story Mode: World of Corruption where the player can travel through the story, awakening the fighters, defeating red (for Marvel characters) and blue (for Capcom characters) Corruptor Clones, completing many stages, missions and winning mini-games to defeat the almighty Mar-Com Corruptor (literally, the Marvel-Capcom Corruptor), a corruptor of two worlds who threatens to corrupt the worlds of the Marvel and Capcom universes so that it can combine them into one corrupted planet. As the final boss since Arcade mode, the Mar-Com Corruptor gains a true form after absorbing all of the infinity gems and the spirit crystals of the past bosses from each Marvel vs. game including Yellow Devil, Rathalos and Yami from the Capcom games, whom the player must defeat. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use a variety of special moves used by each boss (such as Onslaught's Mighty Hand, Apocalypse's Spiked Mace, Rathalos' Super Fireball Attack and Yami's Missile Launch) and can use the power of the infinity gems. In its true form, it can also summon Corruptor Clones based on each fighter (which refers to Galactus summoning cosmic clones) to attack the player. Completing this mode unlocks new stages and the alternate stages from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and 3.

== Infinity Gem and Crystal Powers ==
  +
As of Marvel Super Heroes, each infinity gem has their own unique power where they can be used for a limited time for players who have the number of fighters remaining. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use some of its powers that Thanos uses to attack the player. The Light and Darkness infinity crystals were only added for the Mar-Com Corruptor to use for enhancing the battlefield once it has half of HP remaining when facing it.

[[File:MvCA_Character_Select_Screen_NSVersion.png|thumb|350px|The character select screen with all hidden and DLC characters unlocked, as seen in the Nintendo Switch version.]]All of the Marvel and Capcom characters from their previous Marvel vs. installments make a fierce return in this fighting game. Each Marvel and Capcom characters are classified on each number in order of their appearance in Marvel Vs. fighting games. Servbot is the only character from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to not be playable, but has been paired up with Tron Bonne renaming the duo, "Tron & Servbot". According to the character selection screen, all characters go in order from the top of their appearance in Capcom games (with the exception of all Capcom characters going from right to left). So far, only 30 playable characters are available from the start of this fighting game, while many other characters highlighted in '''bold''' must be unlocked by having them join the player's party in Story mode's World of Corruption, completing Arcade mode with the exact character in his/her unlock tree and playing Versus mode. Characters who are highlighted in a combination of '''bold''' and ''italics'' are new to Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon. Players who pre-order this fighting video game by April 10, 2020 gets a chance to receive a download code which unlocks the two DLC characters, Daredevil and Ingrid when they get revealed on May 4, 2020, along with the first DLC costume pack, the Main Starters DLC costume pack which contains costumes for Cyclops, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Ryu, Ken, Chris Redfield and Dante. On July 9, 2020, it was announced that four more DLC characters, Elektra, Human Torch, June and Demitri Maximoff have all appeared at the end of July along with the two DLC costume packs, the Evil Twin and Brawler packs. On September 4, 2020, it was announced that even four more DLC characters would be joining the roster where it turns out to be these DLC characters: Ms. Marvel, Drax, Batsu and Alex. These final four DLC characters have all joined the roster on September 25, 2020 along with the next DLC costume pack, the Villains DLC costume pack. In the Nintendo Switch version, players gain the ability to use Mii Fighters (who appear from ''Nintendo's Super Smash Bros.'' franchise) based on a Brawler, Swordfighter and Gunner during gameplay.

== Character Unlock Conditions==
  +
Each set of three characters have their own unlock tree, consisting of 7-8 unlockable characters. Completing Arcade mode with one of these characters will suddenly unlock a new character. For example, completing Arcade mode upon delivering the final blow to the Mar-Com Corruptor using Ryu will suddenly unlock Iron Man as a playable character. If Iron Man is unlocked, then Rogue will be the next character for the player who is using Ryu to be unlocked. When playing Versus mode after finishing a match, hidden characters will be unlocked in order of their appearance in Marvel Vs. games. There are a total of ten unlock trees for thirty default characters.

Everyone is here!
―Introduction Tagline for Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon

Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon is a crossover fighting video game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It is the seventh crossover fighting game in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. This video game has been released on April 3, 2020. Director Norio Hirose states that all of the playable characters from the previous Marvel vs. Capcom games have all appeared in this fighting game.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon is similar to the one from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Players must knock out the opposing team by repeatedly attacking the opponent and draining their health bar. Armageddon features 3-9 on 3-9 partner battles, similar to Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and earlier installments in the franchise. Armageddon utilizes a "free-form" tag system, known as "Active Switch", which shares similarities with Marvel vs. Capcom 3's "Team Aerial Combo" system and Street Fighter X Tekken's "Switch Cancel" system.

Story Mode: World of Corruption

Infinity Gem and Crystal Powers

As of Marvel Super Heroes, each infinity gem has their own unique power where they can be used for a limited time for players who have the number of fighters remaining. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use some of its powers that Thanos uses to attack the player. The Light and Darkness infinity crystals were only added for the Mar-Com Corruptor to use for enhancing the battlefield once it has half of HP remaining when facing it.

Playable Characters

MvCA Character Select Screen NSVersion

The character select screen with all hidden and DLC characters unlocked, as seen in the Nintendo Switch version.

All of the Marvel and Capcom characters from their previous Marvel vs. installments make a fierce return in this fighting game. So far, only 30 playable characters are available from the start of this fighting game, while many other characters highlighted in bold must be unlocked by having them join the player's party in Story mode's World of Corruption, completing Arcade mode with the exact character in his/her unlock tree and playing Versus mode. Characters who are highlighted in a combination of bold and italics are new to Marvel vs. In the Nintendo Switch version, players gain the ability to use Mii Fighters (who appear from Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. franchise) based on a Brawler, Swordfighter and Gunner during gameplay.

If Iron Man is unlocked, then Rogue will be the next character for the player who is using Ryu to be unlocked. When playing Versus mode after finishing a match, hidden characters will be unlocked in order of their appearance in Marvel Vs. games.
