Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon is a crossover fighting video game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. It is the seventh crossover fighting game in the Marvel vs. Capcom series. This video game has been released on April 3, 2020. Director Norio Hirose states that all of the playable characters from the previous Marvel vs. Capcom games are going to appear in this fighting game.

Gameplay

The gameplay of Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon is similar to the one from Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Players must knock out the opposing team by repeatedly attacking the opponent and draining their health bar. Armageddon features 3-9 on 3-9 partner battles, similar to Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes and earlier installments in the franchise. Armageddon utilizes a "free-form" tag system, known as "Active Switch", which shares similarities with Marvel vs. Capcom 3's "Team Aerial Combo" system and Street Fighter X Tekken's "Switch Cancel" system. Players can immediately switch between their team members at any point, even while mid-air or during attack animations. This provides players with the abilities to create their own offensive or defensive assists through the tag system and form continuous combos between their two characters. As of August 22, 2019, this fighting game now features two more modes modes: Tournament and Survival. In Tournament Mode players compete on a single elimination tournament tree, while in Survival Mode, the player is forced to continue fighting until his/her characters' HP drops to zero.

NOTE: Each Marvel and Capcom characters are classified on each number in order of their appearance in Capcom fighting games. Servbot is the only character from Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to not be playable, but has been paired up with Tron Bonne renaming the characters, "Tron Bonne & Servbot". According to the character selection screen, all characters go in order from the top of their appearance in Capcom games (with the exception of Wolverine and Ryu who are the only two main no. 1 characters to appear in the middle center of the screen and all other Capcom characters going from right to left). Characters who are highlighted in bold are new to Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon.

Story Mode: World of Corruption

Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon features the story mode called Story Mode: World of Corruption where the player can travel through the story, awakening the fighters who were turned into red (for Marvel characters) and blue (for Capcom characters) shadow fighters, completing many stages, missions and winning mini-games to defeat the almighty Mar-Com Corruptor (literally, the Marvel-Capcom Corruptor) who threatens to corrupt the worlds of the Marvel and Capcom universes so that it can combine them into one corrupted planet. As the final boss since Arcade mode, the Mar-Com Corruptor gains a true form after absorbing all of the infinity gems and the spirit crystals of the past bosses from each Marvel vs. game, whom the player must defeat. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use a variety of special moves used by each boss and can use the power of the infinity gems. It can also summon shadow fighters (which refers to Galactus summoning cosmic clones) to attack the player.

Infinity Gem Powers

NOTE: As of Marvel Super Heroes, each infinity gem has their own unique power. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use its powers that Thanos uses to attack the player. The Light and Dark crystals were added to the Mar-Com Corruptor to enhance the battlefield when facing it.

• Power - Boosts the player's attack power. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use it to create a powerful sun to hurl it against the player.
• Reality - Creates projectiles the attack the opponent. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use it to create walls to crush the player.
• Space - Creates a super armor that boosts the player's defense power. The same thing happens for the Mar-Com Corruptor.
• Soul - Recovers a bit of the player's HP. The Mar-Com Corruptor can trap the player in its mouth to absorb his/her HP.
• Time - Boosts the player's speed. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use it to reverse the player's movement controls.
• Mind - Recovers the player's hyper combo gauge by 2. The Mar-Com Corruptor can use it to drain all of the player's hyper combo gauge.
• Light - Only for the Mar-Com Corruptor. Creates a binding light that stuns the player for a short time.
• Darkness - Only for the Mar-Com Corruptor. Shrouds the player in a blackout, making it harder for the player to see.

Mii Fighter Customizations

Marvel vs. Capcom: Armageddon has a new feature called Mii Fighter Customization where it can be found in the Main Menu of this game.

• This is the first Marvel vs. Capcom fighting video game to:
  • Have this game to be released on a Nintendo system.
  • Have all playable characters (excluding Norimaro, from the Japanese version of Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter) to appear from the past Marvel vs. Capcom games, although players can still customize the Mii Brawler to look like Norimaro in the Nintendo Switch version.

• As of July 15, 2019, Servbot is the only character to not be playable and was replaced with Sōki from Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams. Although, he can still be paired up with Tron Bonne.
