Mad Genius: The Kennedy Miller Mitchell Story is a 2018 Australian documentary film shot, edited, co-produced and directed by Noora Niasari.

Synopsis[]

From the outback to the Oscars, Mad Genius: The Kennedy Miller Mitchell Story chronicles the extraordinary journey of Australia's most influential and daring production company. Founded in 1978 as Kennedy Miller Productions by director George Miller and producer Byron Kennedy, the company redefined Australian cinema with the groundbreaking Mad Max franchise, launching the career of Mel Gibson and revolutionising action filmmaking.

Following Byron Kennedy's tragic passing in 1983, Miller carried the company forward, expanding its scope to include critically acclaimed and culturally significant works such as The Dismissal (1983), Bodyline (1984), and the genre-defying The Witches of Eastwick (1987). The company cemented its place in Hollywood with Lorenzo's Oil (1992), and later, the Oscar-winning animated masterpiece Happy Feet (2006).

In 2009, the company evolved into Kennedy Miller Mitchell, marking a new chapter with longtime collaborator Doug Mitchell. This era saw the triumphant return of Mad Max with Fury Road (2015), a cinematic spectacle that dominated the Academy Awards and reignited global admiration for Miller's visionary storytelling.

Blending archival footage, behind-the-scenes insights, and interviews with industry legends, Mad Genius explores the company's relentless pursuit of innovation, its impact on Australian and global cinema, and the creative brilliance of George Miller—a storyteller who never stopped pushing boundaries.
