Revision as of 00:18, 26 September 2020
M.U.G.E.N Trilogy is a customizable fighting video game for both the Nintendo Switch and Ultimatium. This fighting video game was based on the original M.U.G.E.N for the PC. In this video game, players can build their own character and stage roster to make this fighting video game awesome. M.U.G.E.N Trilogy has been released on November 30, 2018 on the Nintendo Switch. On September 14, 2020, it was announced that this video game will be released on October 2, 2020 for the Ultimatium.
Gameplay
During gameplay, the player can use the style of gameplay from Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes (in 2D) and Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds (in 3D). Whenever the player chooses one of the styles, it can be changed later in the Options Menu. In Arcade Mode, the player travels through nine stages and defeat Abyss/Galactus at the final stage. In Versus Mode, the player can select the number of characters from 1-9 to start the battle. When the character limit is at 1, the player can freely select the number of rounds from 1-9. Players can also add their own names on their slot. In Survival Mode, the player must keep fighting each and every opponent until his/her health bars of their own characters become depleted. In Tournament Mode, players battle against each other in a Single-Elimination Tournament bracket. In Training, the player can practice his/her combat skills against an opponent. Finally, in Watch Mode, two AI-Controlled Computer players battle it out against each other.

Characters
Almost all of the characters from the past M.U.G.E.N fighting game for the PC make it to this game during the final release of the trailer. The Mii Fighters (Brawler, Swordfighter, and Gunner) can be unlocked from the Mii Fighter Customization Menu, while characters can be unlocked by the use of their amiibo and scanning their AR Icons from the M.U.G.E.N Trilogy website. Once a character has been scanned, he or she has joined the battle. Only eight characters can be scanned at a time on a single day. This does not count for when players are using amiibos. As of September 15, 2019, up to ten characters can now be scanned on a single day.

Boss Characters
NOTE: There are a total of seventeen bosses to defeat in this game. This time, each character has his/her own boss character to fight against before Abyss (in the MvC2 style) and Galactus (in the MvC3 style). Master Hand and Crazy Hand (from the Super Smash Bros. universe) are fought together. In the MvC2 style, the player fights Abyss (in his three forms) at the tenth and final stage while in the MvC3 style, the player fights Galactus (after his cosmic clones based on Bowser, King K. Rool, Ganondorf, Ridley, Mewtwo, Doctor Doom, Dormammu, Ultron, Akuma, Wesker, Sigma, Utsuho Reiuji and Naraku; two cosmic clones can be shown at random) in that same stage. Vaati (in his final form) appears after defeating Abyss' final form and Galactus by clearing all seven stages while performing a Hyper Combo Finish (including Crossover Combinations and Crossover Combination Finishes).

Trivia
- The Koopalings (Larry, Roy, Wendy, Iggy, Morton, Lemmy and Ludwig) appear as palette swaps of Bowser Jr. where their debut is in Super Mario Bros. 3 (1988).
- G-merl (who debuted in Sonic Advance 3 in 2004) can be selected by highlighting Emerl and pressing either L or R for that character.
- Giga Bowser, who's debut in Super Smash Bros. Melee (2001) was sometimes classified as a Super Mario character. This has been fixed because Giga Bowser is now a character from the Super Smash Bros. universe and NOT from the Super Mario universe.
- Bowser, Vaati and Akiha Tohno are the only three characters to have transformations as bosses due to Vaati being playable as of September 13, 2019.
- Giga Bowser appears as a transformation for Bowser, G-Akiha appears as a transformation for Akiha Tohno and Vaati's Final Form appears and can be fought under special conditions at the final stage of Arcade Mode.
- The female versions of the Pokémon Trainer, Robin, Corrin, Byleth and the two Villagers (from the Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon universes) can be selected by highlighting the male versions of themselves and by pressing L or R for their female versions.
- The Inkling Boy can be selected by highlighting the Inkling Girl and by pressing either L or R for him.
- The Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time versions of Link and Zelda can be selected by highlighting either the BotW Link or the ALTTP/ALBW Zelda and holding L for 5 seconds gives the player the Ocarina of Time version, while holding R for 5 seconds gives the player the Twilight Princess version.
- The Twilight Princess version of Ganondorf can be selected by highlighting the OoT Ganondorf and holding L and R for 5 seconds gives the player that version for the character.
- When playing in the Click Clock Wood stage from Banjo-Kazooie, seasons can be chosen at random. But, the player can play in any type of season by pressing and holding the correct button (L for Spring, R for Summer, ZL for Autumn and ZR for Winter).
- After selecting either the male or female Pokémon Trainer, the player can select one of the assist types to start the battle as one of his/her Pokémon (Flamethrower for Charizard, Bullet Seed for Ivysaur and Surf for Squirtle).
- Lyn was called "Lyndis", her full name when other characters besides the ones from the Fire Emblem universe call her.
- The Witch Princess who debuted in Harvest Moon DS, uses her style from Harvest Moon: A New Beginning.
- When playing in the Mementos stage from Persona 5, music and color scheme changes when a character theme plays (only in the MvC3 style).
- As of January 17, 2020, the color schemes of the stage, Mementos have been fixed and are now split in three different stages.
- This is the first time Ladybug, Cat Noir and Rena Rouge (from Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir) became playable in this fighting video game.
- Metal Sonic can be selected by highlighting Emerl and by holding Y for 5 seconds for that character.
- The two Villagers, Johnny and Annie (from the Harvest Moon universe) use their style from Harvest Moon: Story of Seasons.
- Illyasviel von Einzbern, the character from the Fate franchise uses her appearance from Fate/kaleid.
- Captain America, Captain Charlie, Captain Commando, Captain Falcon, Captain Gundam and Captain Marvel were called Capt. for short when various characters call them.
- In the stage, Kattelox Island, when Tron Bonne is on the battlefield, Alya Césaire (from the Miraculous Ladybug universe) will take her place, but when Tron Bonne and Rena Rouge are on the battlefield, then Toadette will appear next to Teisel Bonne in the background. As of June 23, 2020, should Tron Bonne, Rena Rouge and Peachette appear playable on the battlefield, then Agitha (from the Legend of Zelda universe) will appear next to Teisel in the background. If the fight involves two Tron Bonnes at the same time, then Teisel will look at them in utter confusion.
- This is the only M.U.G.E.N fighting video game where up to two players can choose up to nine fighters in Versus Mode. However, this fighting game lacks the co-op mode in the Arcade and Versus modes from the original M.U.G.E.N.
