The lead protagonist Ralph's actor Aramis Knight was chosen for not only his amazing audition and personality but also the fact he much looked like the Balthazar Getty Ralph of Harry Hook's 1990 Lord of the Flies.

Fincher's film is shot on the Lampi Island in the Andaman Sea whilest the rest was shot in the rainforests of the Amazon.

Plot

An aircraft carrying young military cadets is shot down to the shore of a deserted, somewhat beautiful island containing no civillization but a vast jungle and assortment of dangerous animals: including boars.

There on the island a leader of the boys is appointed: 14 year old cautious and smart Ralph.

An overweight 14 year old cadet known only as Piggy discovers a conch shell on the beach and Ralph proclaims that the one to hold the conch and blow it has the right to speak and voice their opinions.

He appoints Piggy the Conch bearer much to the dismay of his cadet friend Jack, a rebellious quick witted 14 year old.

Ralph harbors care for the young 13 year old Simon who possesses an abusive drunk father at home and a mother who is too frightened to stand up and leave, he shares with Ralph personally that should they get off the island that he'd like to come live with him, Ralph tells he'd be more then glad for him to do so and that he can be his younger brother.

Jack overhears their conversation and becomes angry.

He soon rallies up a group of the more naughty cadet boys and go hunting for wild boar in the woods of the island.

They come to make their first kill and Simon who they force to participate and play a prank on by locking him a newly discovered cave claims there to be beast within the cave.

Ralph engages in a punch fight with Jack for his mean prank and upon getting the conch from Piggy claims that no-one is to go near the cave.

Jack defies Ralph's orders and after forming his own collective of malevolent boys comes to offer sacrifices to the beast in an attempt to lure it out and kill it to prove his strength to the boys still siding with Ralph and convert them over to his side: apart from Simon and Piggy.

However Simon comes to discover the night of Jack and his savages Beast Dance that the beast is indeed not a beast at all but rather their Captain Benson who is injured and wailing in a cave.

He tells Simon to tell Ralph to look out for Jack and the others and how they should make a beacon to get someone to come and get him and those who have not converted into monsters off the island.

Simon makes the grave mistake of instead coming straight to Ralph of comeing to Jack to tell that there is no monster, Jack seizes the opportunity to in cold blood gruesomely murder Simon by claiming he is the beast coming to attack them.

The boys and Jack brutally stab him with their arrows and lead him to bleed to death showing no remrose for their actions.

Ralph and Piggy hear the commotion and come to the bleeding to death Simon.

Ralph breaks down crying holding him and Piggy breaks down in shock spewing.

Simon whispers to Ralph bleeding to death what Captain Benson told him to say to Ralph.

Ralph then cries some more before in a moment of pure anger jumping Jack and bashing his face until he swells up.

Piggy then rushes Ralph away from them and Jack that night tells the others they will murder both the fatty and the misguided moron Ralph.

Jack approaches them falsely pretending he's sorry about Simon (Ralph yells at him stating he is not to say his name) and Jack wishes to have a meeting tomorrow afternoon and clear things up.

Piggy talks Ralph into having the meeting where Ralph remembers Simon's cryptic message.

The following morning Ralph comes to find Captain Benson dead and sees he has been stabbed multiple times.

Knowing Jack and his savages are the culprits he makes spears of his own for him and Piggy.

Him and Piggy call in the right to speak in the afternoon meeting and suddenly the savages including Jack throw large rocks down upon and Jack pushes a large boulder down upon Piggy after insulting him about his weight, dead sister and diabetic mother.

The boulder smashes in Piggy's face and Ralph breaks down crying holding Piggy's bloody hand.

Jack tells Ralph it's turn now and what they will do with his body once they have killed him.

Ralph propels spears upward but fails to land any upon the savages.

Ralph then runs for it and Jack and the others start to burn up the island's trees attempting to smoke him out.

Ralph ultimatley ends up getting bashed horribly by Jack as the smoke overtakes him and after Ralph kicks Jack in the testicles escapes to the beach front and finds himself at the feet of horrified Marine officers who help him up then see the advancing cadets turned savages.
