LittleLulu's All-Stars Rescue Mission: The Pride of Roar is a 2025 American-Japanese crossover animated action-adventure television special written by Ford Riley and directed by Howy Parkins. Its starring all-stars voice cast from notable films in the crossover from different dimensions. The film was premiered on November 22, 2025.
Plot[]
Zira, the leader of the Outsider pride, enlisted Dr. Willy, Frieza, Sailor Galaxia, Shredder, Bluto, and Garland to abduct Princess Kiara, the eldest daughter of Simba and Nala, from Prideland as part of a scheme to draw Simba into a trap and exact revenge for Scar's death. Meanwhile, Rafiki called upon an assembly of heroes from various dimensions, urging them to join forces with Prince Kion and his guards to prevent the villains from using Kiara as bait. Upon discovering that the villains had been revived or returned to seek retribution, the heroes realized they needed to confront their old adversaries and thwart Zira’s plans before it became too late.
Synopsis[]
In the Outlands, Zira, the leader of the Outsiders, continues her obsession with avenging Scar and usurping the throne of the Pride Lands. Realizing her pride alone is insufficient to defeat Simba and Kion’s Lion Guard, she utilizes an ancient, dark magic artifact to tear rifts across dimensions. She recruits a legion of notorious villains: Dr. Wily, the galactic tyrant Frieza, the chaos-bringer Sailor Galaxia, the Shredder, the brutish Bluto, and the knight Garland. Together, they devise a plan to capture Princess Kiara, Simba’s heir, to use her as bait to lure the royal family into a fatal trap.
The villains execute a coordinated ambush at the watering hole, overpowering the royal guards and abducting Kiara. As panic spreads through Pride Rock, Rafiki consults the Great Kings of the Past. He receives a vision of "warriors from beyond the stars and time." trusting in the balance of the Circle of Life, Rafiki performs a summoning ritual that brings an assembly of heroes to the Pride Lands: the Saiyan Goku and Prince Vegeta; the Sailor Guardians led by Sailor Moon; the Mega Man; the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles; the soldier Cloud Strife; and the chaotic duo of Tom and Jerry and the sailor Popeye.
Initially, the heroes clash due to their differing methods and confusion over their location. However, Prince Kion and his Lion Guard—Bunga, Fuli, Beshte, and Ono—mediate the situation, explaining the stakes. Realizing their old nemeses have returned, the heroes agree to form a united front.
The coalition launches a multi-pronged assault on the Outlands. The battle splits into several skirmishes: The Lion Guard and Simba engage Zira’s pride; the Ninja Turtles and Cloud Strife intercept Shredder and Garland; the Sailor Guardians battle Sailor Galaxia; Mega Man disrupts Dr. Wily’s robotic machines; and Goku and Vegeta draw Frieza's fire away from the pride. In a moment of physical comedy, Popeye consumes spinach to help Tom and Jerry dispatch Bluto.
Despite the villains' raw power, they lack the cohesion of the heroes. Zira attempts to strike a fatal blow against Kion, but is intercepted by a combined energy blast from Sailor Moon and Mega Man. With the villains weakened, the heroes combine their signature attacks—Goku's Kamehameha, Sailor Moon's Moon Spiral Heart Attack, Mega Man's Charging Buster, and Cloud's Limit Break—amplified by Kion's Roar of the Elders. The combined energy blast dismantles the fortress and forces the villains back into their respective dimensions, which Rafiki seals. Zira is defeated, and Kiara is rescued.
With Kiara rescued and peace restored, the heroes bid farewell to the Pride Landers. As they fade back to their respective worlds, Kion looks out over the savanna, acknowledging that the Pride Lands are part of a much larger universe than he ever imagined.

Production[]
Development[]
The project was officially announced at the D23 Expo in August 2023 as a Disney+ exclusive special. Creator Lulu Alden described the production as a "passion project that asks 'what if?' worlds truly collided," citing the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise and Who Framed Roger Rabbit as primary inspirations. To ensure the narrative respected the lore of the host franchise, The Lion Guard veterans Ford Riley and Howy Parkins were attached as writer and director, respectively.
Disney's LittleLulu Castle Studio entered into complex licensing negotiations to secure the rights for the non-Disney characters. The studio collaborated closely with Toei Animation (for Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon) and various rightsholders to ensure character designs and power scaling remained faithful to their original properties.
Animation[]
The special utilizes a unique "hybrid-render" pipeline. The background environments of the Pride Lands were rendered using the painterly, lush aesthetic of The Lion King television spin-offs. However, the visiting characters were animated to reflect their original mediums: the anime characters retain a 2D-style cel-shaded look, the Mega Man and Final Fantasy characters utilize 3D CGI with stylized textures, and Tom and Jerry are rendered in traditional hand-drawn animation. To blend these styles, the lighting engine was unified, allowing shadows and environmental effects to interact consistently across all character models.
Music[]
The score was composed by Christopher Willis, known for his work on The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse. Willis employed a leitmotif technique, blending the African choral arrangements typical of The Lion King with high-tempo synthesizer rock for the Mega Man sequences and orchestral J-Pop influences for the Sailor Moon segments.
Songs[]
The special features four original songs:
- "A Shadow Falls on Pride Rock" – An ensemble villain track establishing the alliance.
- "Worlds Apart, Hearts as One" – The primary anthem performed by the united heroes.
- "Our Revenge is Due" – A reprise performed by Zira, Frieza, and Shredder.
- "Light Up The World" – The end-credits pop ballad performed by Pauline Forester.
Release[]
A teaser trailer premiered at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, generating significant social media buzz. A full-length trailer followed on September 15, 2025. Marketing materials emphasized the sheer scale of the crossover, featuring posters that paired unlikely duos, such as Simba fighting alongside Goku. The special was released globally on Disney+ on November 22, 2025.
Reception[]
Critical Response[]
Upon its release, LittleLulu's All-Stars Rescue Mission: The Pride of Roar received generally positive reviews from audiences and mixed-to-positive reviews from critics. Praise was directed toward the animation quality and the novelty of seeing disparately styled characters interact. Animation Magazine noted that "despite the chaos of the premise, the heart of The Lion King remains intact."
However, some critics felt the runtime of 58 minutes was insufficient to juggle such a massive cast, leading to some characters receiving limited screen time. IGN gave the special a 7/10, stating, "It is pure, unadulterated fan service that defies logic, but succeeds on sheer charm and nostalgia."
Trivia[]
- Rated TV-PG-V for fantasy action violence.
