This background and music for this spirit battle greatly resembles the one where the player must defeat Nega-Scott at the end of World 6 in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game. With Scott Pilgrim's special moves increase power, he will charge up a powerful Final Smash to defeat the player once and for all.

Gideon Wrath
The Dr. Mario puppet fighter greatly resembles Gideon Graves, one of Ramona Flowers' evil-ex boyfriends and the seventh and final evil-ex boyfriend that Scott Pilgrim must defeat. A gigantic Dr. Mario (who serves as Gideon's super form) can be defeated first, then a gigantic Palutena (who serves as Gideon's Gigadeon form), and finally, the regular Dr. Mario, which refers to the boss fights at World 7 which Scott Pilgrim must defeat that is shown in order.
