Several languages are spoken by peoples all across Qirsyllviar, Albinese being the most common, mainly as a lingua franca. Since Qirsyllviar is on another plane of existence from Earth, several of the languages of Qirsyllviar are identical to various Earth languages.

Most languages use a real language as the equivalent, but others use a constructed language instead.

Several languages have either fallen out of use in general society as a result of language shifts, or have become extinct from a lack of speakers. Several are liturgical languages.

Albinese	Sometimes known as the "Common Tongue" or "New Zedylric," Albinese is the language that evolved from the languages of the South Zedylrics. Originally it was confined to Ancient Zedylria, but as the borders expanded so too did the language spread. Even before and after the Zedylrian Empire fell, travelers and merchants carried the language in all directions. Today, Albinese is the dominant language of Albion – where the name of the island serves as it's namesake – and it's colonies, as well as the Kingdom and Republic of New Albion. The language gained popularity as a lingua franca between cultures and is taught as a secondary language, but the majority of cultures of Qirsyllviar retains their own languages for everyday use and there are places where Albinese isn't spoken at all. Since the arrival of Albinese, said language has been steadily gaining prominence, but Genjingo remains the most-spoken language in general society, but highborns are generally taught as a second language. Laukiki लौकिकी	Laukiki, also called Tarakese by Geminians, is the core language of the Taraki peoples, the collective native ethnic groups of Tarak and is the most prominent language of the continent. It gets it's name from Laukik, the traditional polytheistic faith of the Taraki peoples. It is spoken widely in the central regions, but is used as a lingua franca across the whole continent, though it has been declining in the west, particularly in Edwardian and Xotil-held lands, where it is being gradually replaced by Albinese and Scalthor respectively, yet is still spoken by a majority of the native population. Wanyu 完語 完语	Wanyu, is the language of the Wan peoples, the ethnicities of Marlakcor of similar culture, and the adopted language of the Shengwai people. Wanyu is the dominant language spoken across the majority of the continent, mainly in Tianchao, Dongbalian, Miaogui and related countries. It is also the secondary language of Goryeo and is widely used in the Morokoshi provinces of Yamatai alongside Genjingo, mainly as a lingua franca. Due to lack of incursions into the central continent, Wanyu has had no real competition with other languages, despite introduction by foreigners, and has remained the dominant language of Marlakcor. In the former Solarii province of Serica (formerly known as Daludao and now known as Miaogui), the language was at one point steadily dying out as the Solarii imposed their language and customs on the local populace. Non-human Languages

Some languages aren't of human origin and are spoken by specific races. While the majority are not unlearnable, it is very rare for beings of other races to speak them.

Scalthor	The language of Lizardfolk, also known as Saurians. It is also the dominant language of the lizardfolk-ruled Xotilic Empire and its various colonial provinces, and is a minority language spoken amongst the lizardfolk populations of other nations.		Dragor	none, constructed language
Tynkwor	The primary language of the Elves, as well as the dominant languages in elf-majority/ruled nations of Geminos (Aquilonis and Soligaia). It is also primary language spoken among the elven populations of many nations of Soligaia and Aqulonis, but not so in Marlakcor. In Marlakcor the language is almost nonexistent, as the majority of elves on that continent speak the native human languages such as Wanyu. Tynkwor is also a minority language spoken among the elven populations of many nations. There are three different elven dialects named for their respective speakers. Each dialect, while the same base language, has their differences, including different sounds and other rules. The languages are generally mutually-intelligible to those who know them, but to non-speakers they are generally unintelligible to each other unless one studies thoroughly enough. Ardealui	Ardealui is the modern form of the language of Geminian vampires and is their primary language, as well as the modern Piersic people. While more and more vampires switched to Albinese as time went by, it remains the primary language while Albinese has been adopted as the second language of most vampires. Arrdealui is also a minority language among vampire populations in other cultures, but is the official national language only in the modern Kingdom of Ardeal, the namesake of the language. 	Old Vampiric	An ancient version of modern Ardealui, spoken in the era before and during the Amurgine Empire. These days Old Vampiric is spoken almost solely by handfuls of strigjian vampires and Zodjist priests. Ardealean politicians, as well as members of royalty and the nobility, learn some scraps of Old Vampiric as as well. Ekśau एक्शौ	The ancient language of the Ekshau civilization and the ancestor form which all modern Taraki languages are descended. Writing Systems

• Bekhügs (ᠪᠬᠦᠭᠰ) uses a vertical script. It has been the writing system of the Arslan people for millennia and was for a time used the writing system of the Wan peoples during the Lin dynasty of Tianchao when it was still a division of the Khaganate of Gergazar, forced upon them by their conquerors.
• Bizimdil (𐰋𐰃𐰔𐰃𐰢𐰑𐰃𐰞/بیظیمدیل‎) uses two writing systems depending on the state, Eski yazı (𐰅𐰽𐰚𐰃 𐰃𐰀𐰔𐰭‎‎‎) & Yeni yazı (یهڭی یهظی).
  • Eski yazı, read from right to left in-script, uses runes, and was the first writing system used by the ‎Araziyerli people. It is primarily used by the Septifidelic Empire of Mübarek, who retained their ancestral script.
  • Yeni yazı, also read from right to left, uses an alphabet based off Ikaj script, adapted for the language. It was adopted with the spread of Al-Haqiqa into Araziyerli lands and is primarily used by the Shahada Sultanate of Asilgüç.

• Zedylrik (ⰈⰅⰄⰟⰊⰎⰓⰋⰍ), spelled slightly differently than the old language's name, is a type of runic script. It is the writing system of Yazyk and several related languages that use there own variation of it; i.e. some letters don't exist in each other's alphabets.

• The Tyscind system is the most prevalent writing system in Aquilonis, influenced mainly by the high elven Hylarene Empire. It was first invented by the high elves of ancient Aquilonis. The non-elf states and peoples of Aquilonis that use Tyscind for their writing systems include Wylltirion, Soleil, Talmyrnia, Arcadia, Drakyncia, Avolcraz, Avatron, Czi'kolgyar, and Rondar.
  • The three branches of Tynkwor (the languages of the elves), use style specific to the cultural origin of their languages.
  • The Kingdom of Soleil speaks Gallique predominantly. Soleillien Gallique uses a style adapted for the language.
  • The Arcadian, Talmyri, and Salrinese, Faerish and the Ardealui languages use a style based off Albinese.
    • Soleil and New Albion adopted those writing systems mainly as a away to differentiate themselves from the old worlds.
    • The Salrins used to use Zedylrik script to write Salrinese until a written language reform saw its replacement with Tyscind.
• Faerish uses the same runes and others that Sjálfvirk and it's child languages use, yet is adapted for their language.
• Wanyu and Genjingo use a logographic script for writing.
  • Tianchao uses traditional characters while Miaogui uses simplified. Both states use their favored characters when referring to something in writing, unless, in Miaogui's case, a simplified version of a character doesn't exist.

Animal Languages

Animal Languages, also known as Faunatongues, are languages associated with certain animals and the ability to speak them. The ability to converse with animals is considered a gift by many, though it is extremely rare. It is normally hereditary, but it is known to skip generations, and every once in a while it can pop up in a person, though only one in a million are lucky enough to have the gift.

Known Faunatounges include, but are not limited to:

• Avetongue: the language of birds
• Canitongue: the language of dogs
• Equustongue: the language of horses and similar species. Sub-language of now-extinct Centaurian.
• Felitongue: the language of cats
• Serpotongue: the language of serpents
• Dracotongue: the language of Dragons
• Vulpatongue: the language of wolves

Translations

Given the many languages and varieties of writing systems across Qirsyllviar, the issue of the language barrier is a neverending problem for many. While the most common method of crosslinguistic communication is for someone who knows both languages to translate, there are other ways. Magic mirrors and crystal balls are often enchanted with translations spells for ease of communication between people who don't speak each other's first language, but a couple of magical tools are available as well.

Translator Glass

Translator glasses are a magnifying glass-like magic tool used for reading foreign scripts the reader doesn't know how to read. Holding the glass over a script converts the script viewed through it into a script the reader can understand, typically their first language. The achilles heel of this tool is that it doesn't work properly if the message they're trying to read is encrypted, either with a coded cipher or some sort of encryption magic.

Language Rings

Language rings are another magical translation device. Wearing a ring allows the wearer to understand other languages as they're spoken and be understood by others, within proximity. They were invented so that people who do not speak the same language can understand one another without the hassle of learning another language, but they are rare and expensive for the common concumer.

Notes & Trivia

• Bekhügs uses traditional Mongol script by converting Cyrillic Mongolian to Traditional Mongolian.
• Orchlon uses ʼPhags-pa script by transcribing Cyrillic Mongolian.
• Most western Qirsyllvian languages use the Wiedergeboren, while all other languages use different script, mainly ones similar to real-world languages.
• Dwarvian and Fornirtal use a runic system adapted from real-world Elder Futhark Younger, Futhark and Medieval runes
• Modern Turkish is very different from Old and Ottoman Turkic, and so the transliterations are not perfect. Some improvisation was required.
  • Eski yazı, read from right to left in-script, uses Old Turkic/Orkhon runes, transliterated from modern Turkish.
  • Yeni yazı, also read from right to left, uses the Ottoman Turkish alphabet based off Arabic, transliterated from modern Turkish.
• Zedylrik, the writing system of Yazyk and other North & West Zedylric languages, uses Glagolitic script (an old Slavic script), converted from the Cyrillic alphabet of Russian.
• Shayie uses modern Arabic script.
• Wanyu, Genjingo, and and Sinjok-eo use real-world Chinese, Japanese, and Korean script receptively for writing.
• Scalthor (the Lizardfolk language) uses the Dragon Alphabet font.
• Although the texts in the stories The Silver Bat and The Secret of Garvis is in English, unless someone is stated or shown to be speaking a different language, the spoken language is Albinese. It should be firmly noted that characters in the stories do not speak in English (while it is the real-world equivalent).
