Killer Dragon is a b-list horror movie created in 1973. It was directed and written by Bily Fyv. Even though the film doesn't have the best graphics or the most gore, it is a cult film and exceeded it's budget. It also spawned a sequel, Killer Dragon & Skink, which is less popular and got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 9%, which is less than the first film's 67%. It earned a rating of 7.1 on the IMDb, which is considered to be the more accurate rating of the first film. It is the very first film of the Swifty Fan Productions company.
Plot
A zoologist specializing in reptiles is traumatized after his mother he has been taking care of dies of blast injuries from a bomb, he seeks revenge on humanity for treating her cruelly, and starts experimenting on reptiles to make them more monstrous. We then meet the Conner family, a family of "rich bastards" as their neighbour describes them, and the matriarch, Chelsey Conner, getting into gambling debt without telling her husband. The middle child, Connor Conner, is a reptile lover, & is excited to go to the Jay Prehistoric Labs, where the zoologist works. His trip is planned for today, and the whole family, except Chelsey, is going.
We then cut to the zoologist, using a machine to spray multiple Bearded Dragons with a formula he created. When they where all done, he opened the cages to see if it worked, but they didn't move. The moment he touches one of them, multiple jump upon eat, and started to eat upon his flesh. When the family gets there, non-excited, the Bearded Dragons run out the lab building, and attacked the patriarch of the family, Richard Conner, but luckily, he manages to get them off of him, and everyone gets safely back in the car. He then drives away to the police, and the reptiles rampage. They make their way to the Conner's neighbour, an old lady watering her plants. When one bites her finger, she hits it with a watering can, in which five more jump on her, and strangle her to death, then ate her.
They can then be seen causing carnage and destruction, and the Conner's are stopped and attacked yet again by the reptiles. They fight them off and get into a grocery store, where they are temporarily safe. An ice-cream vendor named Carl gets slammed onto the window of the store, with bearded dragons upon him, biting into his neck. Eugene, the grocery store manager, them gets his gun and shoots the two reptiles off, but it was too late, and when they dragged Carl into the store, he was already dead. Bearded Dragons then start breaking the glass, and the people decide to climb to the roof, to be safe. They then break the glass, and kill 5 more people in the store. While on the roof, they look as the dragons destroy the city, but worse was to come.
A red-haired woman named Sammy screams and points as a giant Bearded Dragon emerges from the labs. Connor then points out how they are killing for their queen, and the eldest daughter, Amanda Conner, screams in terror as they see her mother, Chelsey, ripped in half and being dragged by the reptiles. Eugene then gets attacked, and in a 3 minute shot, we see the bearded dragons devour him inside-out, and the people fighting them off. They then climb into the Conner's car, and ride over some Bearded Dragons, straight to the queen. They then fight her, and Richard sacrifices himself to protect his family, in which Connor tells everyone to grab the de-activation formula, and shoot at the queen. After finding guns and fighting off the smaller bearded dragons, they shoot her, and she becomes small again, in which Chelsey steps on her with her high-heels, impaling her.
It then cuts to 3 years later, where the city is restored and everything is fine. The Conner family is together again, and the dragons where gassed.
