Kenobi is a 2020 American Space spy film written by Robert Rodriquez and Álvaro Rodriquez, directed by Robert Rodriquez. It is the third Star Wars franchise anthology film following Gareth Edwards' Rogue One (207) and Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). It is the 12th Star Wars franchise instalment following the original saga, prequel and sequel sagas.

It stars Jack Lowden, Kylie Bunbury, Jeff Fahey, Tyler Posey, Michelle Rodriquez, Antonio Banderas and Zac Efron.

Principal photography took place at Lucasfilm Studios in San Francisco, California and between Socotra Island, Yemen, Ethiopia and Tanami Desert, Northern Territory, Australia.

Released theatrically and in IMAX theatres on April 12th, 2020, a box office and critical success, garnering positive reception.


Stewjon Beginnings

A child Obi-Wan Kenobi on his home planet Stewjon follows his father Ben who has been leaving mysteriously at night from their shuttle home. He is accompanied by friend Silas and they follow his father to an underground cult base: the cult entitled Proto-X are offered a dazed shuttle worker by Ben in return for the safety of his family. The masked Proto leader and his subbordinates spot Obi-Wan and Silas, opening blaster fire. Obi-Wan and Silas escape into the surrounding Stygian Thin Lake making it back home where the Proto's and their leader are waiting, with a hostage Ben, having already executed mother Mayna Kenobi. Ben is executed by the Admiral, Obi-Wan and Silas are left behind as the Cult escapes on their ship, but not before Obi-Wan is able to briefly delay the ships' take-off with the Force.

Jedi Padawan Qui Gon Jin then arrives and collects Obi-Wan leaving behind Silas.

The Ascension of Obi-Wan Kenobi

The opening credit sequence shows Obi-Wan's youngling training at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant under Jin's tutelage with assisted guidance by Jedi Master Yoda.

Following his graduation ceremony along with graduates Depa Billabi and Tarr Seirr, the three are dispatched on a negotiations mission to the planet Munto Codru with the local Codru government: The Capital. The Capital direct them to the Forbidden Castle that hosts a heretic colony. The colony are revealed as Proto-X and gravely injure Tarr due to Obi-Wan's impatience.

Shootout at Hela Bay

As punishment Obi-Wan is temporarily stripped of his padawan status, and left to serve community service on the planet Ganthel, working on Starships, in doing so he meets Jinn-Marlowe a son to abusive foster parents on Ganthel, his parents having been killed on Tatooine.

A young Galactic Empire naval officer Rae Sloane arrives at the Hela Bay Shipyard to steal a starship formerly belonging to Lurikaa, the chancellor to former Sith Lord Darth Krayt. In her company is Adma Jett, a bounty hunter for Mullro Proteus, a feared rogue agent of the Senate.

A blaster battle erupts, Obi-Wan and Jinn-Marlowe sneak aboard the stolen ship Destiny's Open which makes a stop at Regretter's Rock: a habitable asteroid where they are to collect Proteus' lieutenant known only by the code-name The Sleeper. An entire terraforming colony has been executed by the Sleeper as he boards the ship.

Trial & Error

He discovers the stowed away Obi-Wan and Jinn who are then brought to Tatooine to the desert temple of Alma-Rater to stand trial before Agent Proteus' and his court. Also brought in is Yalan Marr a Conculien alien Tatooine scrapper who is executed by drop hanging into an acid pit. Obi-Wan saves himself and Jinn from the same fate, although Jinn is badly acid burned on the chest and face. With his use of the force Proteus as the two brought to his chambers.

Proteus tries to recruit Obi-Wan who greatly considers his offer but seeing Jinn's state and realising Proteus is in fact the Proto-X admiral who murdered his parents he fights and escorts Jinn to a hangar, where they are saved in a Rampart tank vehicle by Yalan Marr's scrapper associate Coora. The three make it to Destiny's Hope and escape, but are pursued by Sloane, Adma and Adma's two disciples Concord and Rettine. Sloane is shot down, ejecting to land on the below planet of Alderaan. Adma, Concord and Rettine board Destiny's Hope and do battle with Obi-Wan and Coora. They are incapacitated however by Coora's EG droid Gavrilo as Adma plans to assassinate Obi-Wan and company. Concord repulsed rebels and decapitates Adma with a faulty lightsaber that Coora had among her inventory. With this Rettine charges Concord but is rendered unconscious by Coora, being taken to the cargo hold for confinement.

The Alderaan Contact

On Alderaan Sloane meets with contact Meridia Anstaldt, an artist. She discourages Sloane's path but nonetheless provides her unused starfighter, from her days as a fighter pilot for the Senate. The heroes land on Albanar to meet with Coora's cousin Forinna Nyco and her scavenger partner Pennweld. The Sleeper arrives on Albanar at the same time as Sloane and with a red lightsaber variated weapon the Arksledge murders Forinna and Pennweld. Obi-Wan and the others land in revolving water and almost drown, saved by Sloane. She reveals her secret mission to overthrow Proteus from the inside, as orchestrated by Qibbu the Hutt, crime lord of Coruscant's Entertainment District. Sloane delivers' the Proto-X plan schematics to Qibbu while dropping off the others on Coruscant to the Jedi Council.

The Vengeance of Rae Sloane

She returns to Ganthel to visit with her mother Jal and younger sister Indecca. A betraying Qibbu has dispatched Centax Beasts and droidekas to kill her and her family, though she survives the shootout unlike her mother and sister.

A furious Sloane is approached by Proteus who consoles her and is directed to Coruscant along with his warriors. Proteus's warriors led by the Sleeper attack the Jedi temple and are repelled by Masters Yoda, Windu, Qui Gon Jinn, Billaba, Seirr, Kit Fista, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Aayla Secura and Plo Koon. Warrior Ta'al Longshooter is killed in battle with Windu and aerokinetic alien Arvonold is killed by Qui Gon Jinn, while tall slender demonic alien Gauntlet cripples Yoda.

Sloane arrives at Qibbu's casino Aurei Sector and massacres all inside minus Qibbu as Meridia suddenly arrives and attempts to reason. Meridia reveals her conjuncture with Proto-X prompting Sloane to fire at Qibbu and then Meridia, killing both.

The battle concludes on Proteus' ship the Rapture where Coora tricks and kills warrior alien twins Julla and Galla, Concord does battle with a released Rettine who is stabbed and killed by the Sleeper. Concord is injured but saved by Obi-Wan who kills the Sleeper in a lightsaber battle. Jinn-Marlowe has succumbed to his injuries. The Gauntlet is killed by the combined efforts of Masters Windu, Qui Gon, Yoda and Marlowe in his last moments who programs Gavrilo to detonate and destroy the monster. Billaba, Seirr and the other Jedi Masters capture Proteus' commandant Westminnster at the bridge. Insane Inn a Hela Bay programmer revealed as an informant for Proto-X aids in the fight against Mudvaark: the pyrokinetic alien warrior seeking revenge against Qui Gon for his brother Arvonold's death.

Insane Inn reveals his brown lightsaber which results in an acid affect that destroys Mudvaark.

Proteus' True Form

Proteus enters the fray on the ship and reveals himself as a Protean alien which have the sentient species ability to shapeshift. He reveals in his Talisman of Dekkor constantly worn around his neck the spirit of former sith lord Darth Krayt, whom he has been serving and forged the Proto-X following for. Krayt's energy is eventually contained and entrapped by the combined force abilities of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon who are the only Jedi left standing as the others are knocked away by the power of Krayt. Sloane appears and executes Proteus before disappearing with Darth Maul.


A funeral is held for Jinn-Marlowe on Coruscant, Concord faces trial and is granted parole in his sentence, Coora breaks him out and takes off on her own starship with a re-assembled Galvira.

Insane Inn is released in secret by Qui Gon during the debacle and reclaims his lightsaber departing into the crowd. Masters Billaba, Windu and Seirr are dispatched to pursue Coora and Concord. At the Jedi temple Obi-Wan reunites with Silas Teeton having been summoned by Yoda. A message from the Senator Palpatine announces a blockade over Naboo from the Trade Federation, that negotiations must be occur immediately, granting them audience on the Trade Flagship orbiting Naboo.
