John Powell is an English composer, best known for his scores to motion pictures. He has been based in Los Angeles since 1997 and has composed the scores over fifty feature films. He is particularly known for his scores for animated films, including Antz, Chicken Run, Shrek (all three co-composed with Harry Gregson-Williams), Robots, Happy Feet (and its sequel), three Ice Age sequels, two Kung Fu Panda films, Rio, How to Train Your Dragon, for which he was nominated for Academy Award, and its 2014 sequel.

Animated films

He started his work with Harry Gregson-Williams on Antz, Chicken Run and Shrek. He dropped out of Shrek 2 in 2004 to score the film Robots.

In 2006, he composed Ice Age The Meltdown and Happy Feet. In 2008, he composed three animated films including Horton Hears a Who!, Kung Fu Panda with Hans Zimmer and a Disney film Bolt.

In 2009, he composed Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. In 2010, he composed How to Train Your Dragon which he won an Academy Award which he nominated. In 2011, he score four films including Mars Needs Moms, Rio, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Happy Feet Two.

In 2012, he scored two films including The Lorax and Ice Age 4: Continental Drift. In 2014, he also scored Rio 2 and How to Train Your Dragon 2.
