Commander James Bond is a Senior Operational Officer of a covert arm of MI6. As an agent of the Secret Service, Bond holds code number "007." The 'double-O' prefix indicates his discretionary licence to kill in the performance of his duties.

Persona: Bond is the consummate womaniser, drinker, and heavy cigarette smoker, at one point reaching 70 cigarettes a day. He is famous for ordering his vodka martinis "shaken, not stirred," although he also drinks and enjoys gin martinis, champagne and bourbon. He is also famous for introducing himself as "Bond, James Bond" whenever the opportunity arises.

History: James Bond was born in West Berlin, Germany on April 13, 1968. His father Andrew Bond of Glencoe, Scotland, was a Senior Accounts Manager for Vickers Defence Systems (now BAE Systems Land & Armaments Group), while his mother Monique Delacroix Bond was originally from Yverdonm Canton de Vaud, Switzerland. Until age 11, Bond was educated in Switzerland and Germany, where his father was stationed as a Vickers executive. Both parents died in a climbing tragedy while attempting to scale north-east ridge of the Aiguille de la Persévérance. After the death of his parents, he was privately tutored by his aunt and guardian, Miss Charmain Bond of Pett Bottom, Kent. From age 12 to 13, Bond attended Eton until he was expelled for repeated curfew violations and 'trouble' with one of the maids. He then attended his father's alma mater, Fettes. While there he won numerous athletic competitions and twice boxed for the school as a light weight. He also formed the first intermural judo league for the public school circuit. During his teens, he spent time studying both climbing and skiing with local Austrian instructor Hannes Oberhauser of Kitzbühel during term breaks at Fettes. Bond's one strong relationship, this friendship ended when Oberhauser disappeared mysteriously. Bond has referred to Oberhauser as a second father. During a stint at the University of Geneva under an exchange program with Fettes, Bond led an expedition to the very mountain where his parents had died. Bond climbed it with friends and never told them of his personal and tragic link to the location.

After graduating from Fettes at the age of 17, Bond began attending the Britannia Royal Naval College. While there, Bond excelled in all areas of training. Bond matriculated from his coursework at BRNC with passable marks. However, whilst excelling at athletic competitions, strategic operations, and counter-intelligence courses, his unconventional approach to his education, his diffident attitude to some of his superiors, and a lack of respect for curfew drew him many demerits. On more than one occasion, a fellow candidate was strongly suspected of lying to protect Bond from punishment. In his later teens, Bond lost his one surviving close relative, his aunt Charmain Bond. Bond conducted his year of Sea Service with high recommendations from his Chief Petty Officers and Warrant Officers. He applied for and was uniformly recommended for work in Naval Intelligence. Bond served as an intelligence officer on HMS Exeter both before and during Operation Granby, and later was able to transfer to submarine service, touring on the HMS Turbulent. His natural abilities, mental quickness and confidence impressed his commanding officers. Within the year of being assigned to HMS Turbulent, it became apparent that Bond was not being sufficiently challenged with his duties, so Bond volunteered for the Special Boat Service. Bond excelled at SC3 and Underwater and Aquatic Warfare training. He constantly equaled or bested his superior officers and instructors in all areas after nominal experience.

Bond earned the distinction of being the only candidate to entirely escape detection during the night limpet placement operation at Plymouth. There was some doubt as to whether Bond had actually accomplished the mission per the assignment until he demonstrated his rather ingenious method of eluding the underwater infra-red cameras and sonar systems in-place. His techniques were rapidly included in future training. Upon completion of UAW training, Bond commenced Advanced Commando Parachute training at Brize Norton. A very dramatic incident occurred when Bond participated in the first group freefall exercise. At 900 meters the third jumper Lieutenant Cameron's ripcord pins jammed causing the main shoot to malfunction, and he panicked. As the fourth jumper, Bond spotted Cameron, and at great personal risk, repositioned himself to aerially intercept Lt. Cameron at approximately 450 meters, and deploy Lt. Cameron's chute. Bond deployed at 250 meters. Lt. Cameron shattered his hip upon landing, although Bond escaped without serious injury.

Bond's record with training earned him placement with the 030 Special Forces Unit, rather than deployment as a swimmer-canoeist with the standard SBS Units in Poole. During further training with 030 SFU, Bond earned certifications for the operation of assault helicopters, Harrier-class jets, fixed wing aircraft, hovercrafts, marine assault vessels, armored vehicles, and other crafts. Bond served with distinction in the 030 Special Forces Unit. He proved adept at training other candidates, initiating athletic competitions, and fostering a creative environment. During his three-year tenure with the 030 SFU, Bond rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He saw covert service in Iraq, Somalia, Iran, Libya, and active service in Bosnia. Upon completion of his duties in Bosnia - where Bond was credited with saving the lives of nearly 100 men from a Serbian militia in one village - Bond was recruited by the RNR Defence Intelligence Group and awarded the rank of Commander.

Bond's work with the Defence Intelligence Group at Defence Intelligence and Security Centre, Chicksands, proved highly satisfactory, although his fellow officers noted Bond's rather casual attitude toward command structure and protocol. Bond's work provided vital intelligence during key moments with Libya, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Cyprus, Indonesia, China (during the Hong Kong handover) and North Korea. In Libya, Bond was able to secure detailed assessments of the status of the Libyan government's reputed financial ties to numerous terrorist organizations, as well as crucial information related to the settlement of issues related to the Pan Am 103 case. In Iraq, Bond was able to monitor Iraqi counter-moves to the UNSCOM (now UNMOVIC) inspections process during one key period. Bond undertook a particularly hazardous mission into Afghanistan to rescue a researcher deemed important to Her Majesty's government who was being imprisoned by the Taliban government. During the S-300 missile crisis in Cyprus, Bond helped undermine the Republic of Cyprus government's confidence, and, it is felt, helped bring a peaceful resolution to the matter. During his tenure at the DI Group RNR, Bond attended specialized courses at Cambridge (where he achieved a first in Oriental Languages), Oxford and other institutions. Bond left the DI Group RNR after recruitment by the MI6 at the age of 30.

Bond completed all orientation and MI6 Covert Operations training in eight weeks. He received exceptionally high marks for physical endurance, logic, and Psychological Ops exercises. His first assignment was at the British Embassy in Kingston, Jamaica. His duties there included: translation of Haitian, French and Dutch West Indies communiqués, interdiction efforts with gun and drug smuggling between Kingston and London (resulting in a letter of commendation from his superior, Charles DaSilva), and four days of Black Ops reconnaissance in Cuba, penetrating military compounds. He then was appointed Senior Advisor at the British Embassy in Rome. Bond was promoted to Ops Specialist simultaneous with this posting. Although based nominally in Rome, his duties took him to Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Lebanon, France, Spain, China and the United States. He worked back-channel sources to aid in solving a minor crisis between the U.S. and China. Bond worked with his former Special Forces Unit to penetrate and gain intelligence on Iraqi military and suspected unconventional weapons installations in late-2002 and early-2003. Afterwards, Bond was posted to the MI6 headquarters in London, where he continued to work as a Mission Specialist (within Black Ops) in such locations as Cuba, the United States, Austria, Spain, Russia, the Ukraine, Uzbekistan, the Sudan, and the UAE.

At the age of 38, Bond was promoted to 00 status. The covert 00 Branch of MI6 is the elite of the Secret Intelligence Service. These 'double-O' agents have proven themselves capable enough in the field to be entrusted with the license to kill—the authorization to, at their own discretion, commit assassination and acts that might be otherwise considered murder in order to complete their missions, without having to seek permission from headquarters first. Bond earned his stripes in the 00 Branch by killing two people: Section Chief Dryden, who had been selling secrets from within MI6, and Dryden's contact. After Bond killed Dryden's contact, Fisher, in a bathroom in Lahore, Pakistan, he flew to the Czech Republic. There, he killed Dryden in the Section Chief's office. Bond was consequently granted 00 status and given the code number "007." He was also given the cover of a representative for an import/export company named Universal Exports – which is actually an MI6 front company.

On his first mission as agent 007, Bond and an MI6 officer named Carter worked cooperatively in an attempt to capture international bomb-maker, Molloka. At a mongoose/cobra fight in Madagascar, Bond and Carter conducted surveillance on Molloka but, due to a foolish mistake made by Carter, the criminal realized he was being watched and fled. Bond pursued Molloka through the jungle, up an enormously high construction site and finally to the Nambutu Embassy. Bond broke into the embassy, fought off several soldiers and then captured Molloka. Outside of the embassy, Bond held a gun to Molloka's head while surrounded by a large number of soldiers. After an embassy official ordered him to hand over Molloka, Bond pushed him into the arms of the official. However, he them immediately shot Molloka and then a gas line outside the embassy. That caused an explosion and in the chaos of the aftermath, Bond escaped. The incident infuriated the British government and the MI6 director "M", as Bond had only been instructed to capture Molloka. However, Bond obtained Molloka's mobile phone and discovered that it had received a text message from Alex Dimitrios, a criminal in the Bahamas. Bond traveled there, won Dimitrios's Aston Martin DB5 in a poker game, and seduced his wife, Solange Dimitrios, who revealed that her husband was flying to Miami on business. Bond travels there, killed Dimitrios, and discovered a terrorist plot to blow up a gigantic prototype Skyfleet airliner at Miami International Airport. Bond managed to stop the terrorists from succeeding and killed a man named Carlos, who had replaced Molloka as the criminal responsible for destroying the airliner.

Following this success, M informed Bond that the mastermind of the incident was a man known as Le Chiffre, who served as private banker to terrorists. Le Chiffre had been using his clients' money to short sell successful companies and then would engineer terrorist attacks to sink their stock values so he could make a fortune. When Bond foiled Le Chiffre's plan to destroy the Skyfleet, the banker was left with a major financial loss, since he had shorted the company's shares and bought put options on Skyfleet stock, which then expired worthless. Needing to recoup his clients' money, Le Chiffre had set up a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. Hoping that a defeat would force Le Chiffre to aid the British government in exchange for protection from his creditors, MI6 entered Bond into the tournament. He was assisted in the mission by a fellow MI6 officer named René Mathis and Vesper Lynd, a foreign liaison agent from HM Treasury's Financial Action Task Force. She was sent to make sure that Bond adequately managed the funds provided by MI6. As the tournament progresses, Le Chiffre tricked Bond into believing he was bluffing; when Bond went all-in, he lost his initial stake. Vesper, believing his bet was reckless, refused to give Bond additional funds to buy back into the tournament.

Distraught over his failure, Bond prepared to kill Le Chiffre when he was intercepted by one of the other players, who introduced himself as CIA officer Felix Leiter. Also out to get Le Chiffre, Leiter believed Bond had a better chance to win than himself and offered to supply him with enough funds to re-enter the tournament in exchange for allowing the CIA custody of Le Chiffre. In an effort to secure his win, Le Chiffre had Bond poisoned. The poison caused Bond to go into cardiac arrest, however Vesper managed to save his life and he went back to the game. Bond rapidly recouped his losses and won the tournament with an inside draw to a straight flush. Following her celebratory dinner with Bond, Vesper was abducted by Le Chiffre, who used her to lure Bond into a near-fatal car chase and ultimate capture. Le Chiffre stripped Bond naked, tied his hands and feet to a chair, and tortured him for the access code to the game's winnings by lashing his testicles with a rope. When it became clear that Bond would not yield, Le Chiffre prepared to castrate him. At that moment, Mr. White, a man who worked for the organisation that provided Le Chiffre's original funds, entered the room and executed Le Chiffre for his failure and deception. Bond and Vesper were left alive.

Bond awoke in a hospital near Lake Como and ordered the arrest of Mathis because Le Chiffre had told him that Matthis was a double agent. Bond then professed his love for Vesper and vows to resign from MI6. Accordingly, he posted his resignation to M and went on a romantic holiday in Venice with Vesper. However, Bond soon learned from M that the poker winnings were never deposited into the HM Treasury's account. Realizing that Vesper had stolen them, he pursued her into a building under renovation where she met members of Mr's White's organisation including a man named Gettler. Bond shot the flotation devices supporting the structure to gain access to the building, but as he did so the foundation started to slowly collapse into the Grand Canal. After killing the henchmen and Gettler in the building, Bond found Vesper imprisoned in a lift. Apologizing to him tearfully, she locked herself inside as the lift plunged under the rising waters, where Vesper purposefully took in water in an effort to drown more quickly. Bond dove into the water, broke into the lift and pulled Vesper's body onto the roof of the collapsed building, where he attempted to resuscitate her in vain while Mr. White walked away with the money.

A few days later, M told Bond that Vesper had a French-Algerian boyfriend who was kidnapped and held for ransom by the organisation behind Le Chiffre and Mr. White. M also suggested that most likely Vesper agreed to deliver the ransom money (the poker winnings) only if they would consent to let Bond live. During the conversation with M, Bond discovered that Vesper had left Mr. White's name and number in her mobile phone for him to find. Some time later, Bond tracked Mr. White to a palatial estate near Lake Como, shot him in the leg, and introduced himself as "Bond. James Bond."

Bond then placed Mr. White in the luggage compartment of his car and drove to Siena, Italy. During the drive there, Bond was attacked by chasing henchmen. After evading his pursuers in a high-speed car chase/shoot-out, Bond and M interrogated White regarding his organisation. During the interrogation, M's bodyguard, Mitchell, revealed himself as a double agent and a traitor by attacking M and allowing Mr. White to escape. Bond chased Mitchell across Siena and eventually killed him. Following a forensic investigation into Mitchell's apartment back in London, Bond headed to Haiti to track down and kill Mitchell's contact, Edmund Slate. In carrying out his objective, Bond learned that Slate was sent to kill Camille Montes at the behest of her lover, Dominic Greene, the chairman of an ecological organization called Greene Planet. While observing her meeting with Greene, Bond learned that Greene was helping the Bolivian general Medrano—who murdered Camille's family—overthrow his government in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of desert.

Bond observed Greene escorting Camille away on Medrano's boat to "sweeten" their deal. Bond immediatley rescued her and later managed to track Greene down at a performance of the opera Tosca at Lake Constance in Bregenz, Austria. Bond infiltrated a meeting of the several members of Mr. White's organisation and a gunfight ensued. In the shootout, a bodyguard of Guy Haines, an adviser to the British Prime Minister, was killed, and M, assuming Bond was the killer, had his passports and credit cards revoked. Bond then traveled to Talamone, a small Italian town in Maremma, to reunite with René Mathis. Though less than happy to see Bond, Mathis was convinced to accompany him to La Paz. They were greeted by Strawberry Fields, an MI6 field officer assigned to the British Consulate, who demanded that Bond return to the UK on the next available flight. Bond disobeyed and seduced her in their hotel suite.

Later, Bond met Camille again at a fund-raiser being held by Greene, where they left hastily together but were pulled over by Bolivian police officers. The police ordered Bond to open the luggage compartment of his vehicle, revealing a bloodied Mathis. As Bond lifted Mathis out of the vehicle, the policemen opened fire and fatally wounded Mathis, who died in Bond's arms. After Bond subdued the police he deposited Mathis's body in a waste container and took money from his wallet stating that Mathis wouldn't care. Bond and Camille then drove to Greene's intended land acquisition and surveyed the area in a Douglas DC-3 plane. They were intercepted and shot down by an Aermacchi SF.260 fighter and a Bell UH-1 Iroquois helicopter. They escaped from the crippled plane by parachuting and landed in a sinkhole. While escaping the cave, Bond and Camille discovered that Dominic Greene was blockading Bolivia's supply of fresh water, normally flowing in subterranean rivers, by damming it to double the price of water. The duo returned to La Paz, where Bond learned from M that Greene had Fields murdered by drowning her in crude oil. She told Bond that the governments of the both the United Kingdom and the United States had decided to allow Medrano to stage a coup in Bolivia in order to gain petroleum rights from Greene. She then ordered Bond to disarm and end his activities in Bolivia, but he defied her and escaped.

A little while later, Bond met up with Felix Leiter at a local bar, who disclosed that Greene and Medrano will soon meet at an eco-hotel in the Bolivian desert. Tipped off by Leiter, Bond evaded a U.S. special ops force attempting to capture him. Bond then sets out to the hotel where Greene and Medrano would make their plans for a Bolivian coup. Bond set off a chain of explosions in the hotel when a hydrogen fuel tank was hit by an out of control vehicle. Camille finally managed to kil Medrano and Bond managed to capture Greene. Bond interrogated him and learned that the mysterious organisation is named "Quantum" and other details. After interrogating him, Bond left Greene stranded in the middle of the Bolivian desert with only a can of motor oil, saying, "I bet you make it twenty miles before you consider drinking that." Bond then drove Camille to a train station, where they kissed before she departed. Bond then traveled to Kazan, Russia, where he confronted Vesper Lynd's former lover, Yusef Kabira. Yusef was a member of Quantum who seduced high-ranking women with valuable connections, getting them to give up government assets as ransom for himself in fake kidnappings where he was supposedly held hostage. He was attempting to do the same with Canadian intelligence officer Corinne Veneau, even giving her the same kind of necklace he gave Vesper. Surprising them at Kabira's apartment, Bond told Veneau about Vesper and advised her to alert the Canadian Security Intelligence Service. Bond decided not to kill Kabira, but instead left him alive for questioning. Upon leaving Kabira's apartment, M revealed to Bond that Greene had been killed by Quantum and that Bond had been reinstated as an MI6 officer.

Since then, James Bond has proven himself to be one of the most extraordinary officers in MI6's employ.

Skills: Bond is skilled with languages, and speaks fluently without accent in Italian, French and German, and speaks, reads and writes a passable Greek, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese. Bond is a trained professional killer. He is tough and as accomplished as a commando. He is muscular and an impressive physical specimen, but is infinitely more scientific. In general, he fights with tenacity and has a high tolerance of pain. He is an expert in Judo, can kill with a chop of his hand and with the well-placed pressure of his fingers. An expert pistol shot, boxer, knife thrower; Bond knows how to use knifes and he knows how to use razors. Long before he joined MI6, Bond has used a system of mnemonics, where he can store thousands of pieces of information of any kind to memory or filed away, available for immediate recall, in the computer of his memory.
