Indiana Jones and the Quest Of Kings is a 2019 American Action Adventure film written by Jonathan Kasdan and directed by Steven Spielberg. It is the consecutive fifth instalment in the Indiana Jones film franchise, that began with Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and continued with Temple of Doom (1984), Last Crusade (1989) and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008). Quest of Kings serves as a sequel to the liner narrative of it's predecessors. Harrison Ford reprises the titular role while supporting stars Karen Allen and Shia LaBeouf reprise their their roles.

New cast additions include Anna Kendrick, Dev Patel, Andy Garcia and Salma Hayek.

Primarily taking place in 1959 Indiana separated from his son Mutt Williams, and wife Marion aligns with young archeologist Joan Waters and her assistant Khan when an extremist Cuban anarchist group seeks out the long lost Prussian wonder: The Amber Room, which in itself may hold ties to King Midas and Pandora's Box of Greek Mythology.

Principal Photography took place in Greece, Croatia, Germany, Brazil, Australia and on controlled sets at Lucasfilm LTD studios in San Francisco, California, United States.

Released theatrically and in IMAX theatres on May 28th, 2019 to mostly positive reception and an overrall box office success: it was followed by two spin-off films and a final following sequel in 2021.

Plot

In 1959 in Vale da Lua, Indiana Jones archaeological colleagues after he attempts to reclaim the true Shroud of Turin from the hidden Temple of Solomon, discovering after navigating it's dangerous labyrinth of traps that it is missing.

Commander Juan Learco whose men are responsible for the execution of Indiana's companions meets him on the surface, prompting his rescue by emergency travel aid Khan Irffan, a young pilot whose' biplane refuses to work again resulting in the duos' escape by water.

After resuming his role as Dean and substitute archaeology professor at Barnett College, where Khan is revealed as a student and P.A commutes to the Museum of Antiquities to discover that the Shroud he promises has already been submitted, by an anonymous female submitter.

Calling upon old contacts, accompanied reluctantly by Khan the two discover the woman, collector Joan Waters in an abandoned old apartment complex she is residing in. She explains how her father was an archaeologist who is now deceased, and former colleague to the also deceased Abner Ravenwood. Her father's prime archaeological obsession being Pandora's Box.

The three are forced to band together as Learco and his men storm the building, in the escape Learco and few of his men escape as Waters detonates an escape system of structural explosives.

The trio under Indy's direction come to the village of Aragon, Spain to meet with contact Lena Lenora, who leads Indy without the company of Waters and Khan to the Aragon minister Ernesto Gimoaldo. It is revealed that former friend Sallah's disappearence was a result of Gimoaldo, who Lenora and Commander Learco work for, a division of Espada. The three attempt escape and ultimately Khan is captured as Indy and Waters reach the border.

Indy and Waters press on to Argos, Greece knowing Gimoaldo will follow, racing to one of the three Relics of the true Room of Amber, believed to be in Greece.

The two reclaim from the Ruins of Tartarus the Winged Helmet, Dionysus' Chalice and Hephaestus' Hammer of the Forge, which collectively reveal the worthy with the location of the Room of Amber, showing Waters it's divine location. Learco arrives with Lenora and the two are captured, being brought to their Grecian Fortress Cerberus. Reunited with Khan, the trio are to attempt escape before Indy volunteers their return to bring them to the Room of Amber.

Along a desert canyon Waters rebels and attempt to destroy the infrastructure that gains access to the Amber Room, but is unsuccessful when apprehended by Lenora. Inside they undergo Solomon's trials to enter: 1. The Canyons of Despair 2. Corridor of Suffering 3. Crawl of Desperation and 4. Chasm of Clarity. Lenora and Learco betraying Gimoaldo push him to his death and guide Indy, Waters and Khan into the Amber Room itself, where various mythological artefacts reside. Gimoaldo's aspiration being the Hand of King Midas, that grants immense wealth.

Learco and Lenora prizing much else uncover Pandora's Box, and despite Waters and Indy's waters open the artefact, claiming legend already states it had been opened. The result of this action demonic winged creatures erupt and hellfire, Learco's men are killed as the Amber room melts and molten gold floods over them. Learco is morphed into a horrific Gorgon beast and is executed by Lenora. As she attempts to flee toward a hopeful exit, the silhouette of a gigantic demon advances and Lenora begins to disintegrete, her fragments being absorbed into hell.

Indy who up until then had been estranged from his wife and son reunites with them at Barnett College, finally retiring, from both teaching and his other side, he parts an emotional farewell with Khan and passes on his hat to Waters, telling them to stick together.
