The film serves as a sequel to the previous Indiana Jones and The Devil's Quandrant. The film is set in 1959 two years following the events of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and a year following the events of the previous fifth instalment.
The film is written by previous Indiana Jones instalment screenwriter David Koepp and directed by series director Steven Spielberg starring once again Harrison Ford as the legendary Indiana Jones, Karen Allen of Raiders and the previous two instalments as his love interest/current wife Marion and his son Mutt Williams of the previous two instalments.
The film also boasts an ensemble cast of new actors and actresses including Jason Bateman as Indiana Jones' central sidekick of the film, Jessica Lange as the femma fatale would be love interest, Jeff Bridges heading up as Indiana Jones' and his deceased father Henry Jones Senior's former idol who serves as the main antagonist of the film, Christina Hendricks as the fiance of Indy's new sidekick, Bradley Cooper as the childhood friend of Indy's son who also happens to be the only son of the central antagonist, Billy Crystal, Christopher Guest, Menna Shalabi and Amr Waked as the ancient Egyptian scribe Hoth a shape-shifter and Jeremy Irons, Barbara Hershey and Carl Weathers as Indy's lifelong friends in the world of archeology who align with him and his new bumbling sidekick in a race against a secret society of British aristocrats to proccur the legendary Book of Hoth before it falls into the hands of the group of antagonists and their tyrannical leader.
The film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on January 20, 2014.
Opening in 1959, Turkey Indy goes on a reunion dig with his old archeology team comprising of Spanish Gentleman: Antonio Negorio, French master of disguise and priceless jewels proccurer Ione Gala and African Demolition Digger Fortman Booth who have accompanied him to the Göbekli Tepe the oldest temple in the world where they are to proccur ancient priceless pottery before a collective of Vietnamese soldiers.
The story then continues on as they part ways to the Museum curated by Indy back in England where his wife Marion and his harley donning son Mutt fall under attack from Vietnamese soldiers who capture the three and seperate them.
Indy is able to barely escape and ends up being helped by a mysterious well groomed American stranger Lark Doncaster who tells the men after them are not basic Vietnamese soldiers branching out for supernatural artefacts like the Nazi's or Soviet Union but are in league with an ancient society called the Adventurer's Guild in search of the Book of Hoth and whom have kidnapped his fiance.
The two evade them in a chase through London but are eventually seized at the border and brought before the head council and their leader Obadine Stanson the father of Mutt's childhood bestfriend Hart, Henry Jones Sr.'s mentor and Indy's role model.
Obadine informs the two they are to travel from Peru to France to Manhattan to gather the artefacts which once assembled in Cairo, Egypt pave way to the ancient Temple of Truth which contains the Book Of Hoth which allows the reader of the ancient texts an audience with the ancient gods which once had dominion over all of Egypt and whom can grant immense powers upon those they deem worthy.
Indy and Lark soon find themselves aligned with the ancient scribe himself Hoth who was the granted the power of immortality and whom seeks to rid himself of this curse and finally pass on to the afterlife and Indy's old arcehology team.
