Helluva Boss, is an American animated TV series created by Jim Ballantine and Vanessa Coffey for Nickelodeon. The series follows Blitzø, a young Circus imp who was bought by Stolas's father, Paimon, after seeing him being alone, and since then, Blitzø has misadventures with Stolas and their new friends, Moxxie and Millie. the series aired from October 13, 1999, to December 22, 2003, with a total of five seasons and 52 episodes.
In contrast with many other shows on the network, it has generated controversy for its dark tone & humor, sexual innuendos, adult humor, intense fantasy violence, shock value, and references to hell. Nevertheless, Helluva Boss received very positive reviews during its original run and has since developed a cult following. It is considered by many to have had a long-lasting influence on television animation.
A revival for adult audiences, Helluva Boss "Adult Cartoon", was produced by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano and first aired in October 31, 2020 on YouTube. Unlike the original Nickelodeon series, in which the main characters are kids and simply go onto misadventures, the adults remake follows Blitzo, Moxxie, and Millie, now aged up into adults and are employees of I.M.P. (Immediate Murder Professionals), an imp-run assassination company in Hell, on their many different jobs.
Differences from VivziePop's Helluva Boss "Adult Cartoon"[]
- The original Nickelodeon Helluva Boss series is aimed towards younger audiences, not just adults, and does not contain graphic language, obscene imagery, or gory scenes.
- The main protagonists like Blitzo, Moxxie, Millie, and Stolas are kids in this series, as this takes place long before the "Adult Cartoon" series of the same name on YouTube.
- The main protagonists do not intend on harming humans, which is the complete opposite of their "Adult Cartoon" counterparts. Instead, they often hide to avoid getting detected by the mortal humans.
- As such, the main protagonists go onto a series of family-friendly misadventures through each episode.
- Loona and Verosika Mayday are not present in the original series.
- This is, in the case of Loona, due to Blitzo not being an adult and thus he does not own her yet. As for Verosika, the reasons for this is currently unknown.
- The Cherubs do not play a major role in any of the episodes, and are just background characters.
- The setting of the series, most of which takes place in hell, was traditionally drawn and does not contain graphic language, unlike in the case of VivziePop's Helluva Boss.
- The violence is generally much more fantasy and almost all of these do not actually result in deaths of certain characters, and even then the deaths are cartoonish and not realistic, bloody, nor gory, but is not the case for VivziePop's rendition of the show.
- The sound effects can often be action as in other shows at the time, such as Spider-Man(1994), not just realistic sound effects as in the case of VivziePop's Helluva Boss YouTube series.
