He comes into alignment with a Crystal Lake assault survivor Chris Higgins who along with the Sheriff's daughter Megan Garris lead as the head counsellors and have their other teenage counsellor friends falling prey to the now undead Jason.

The film follows a non-linear narrative and begins in 1980 with alcoholic insomniac and Crystal Lake schizophrenic Elias Voorhees donning a burlap sack, armed with a machete descending upon the head counsellors of the Packanack Lodge Training Centre Paul Holt and Ginny Field who are planning to re-open Camp Crystal Lake. The two are the first to return from a evening out on the town with their friend Ned Sommers who is passing out drunk. After placing him in the central cabin asleep on the couch the two head to the lodge grounds watchtower where after making love Paul plans to propose to Ginny. Meanwhile back at the central cabin Ned hears noises around the cabin and after the power is cut to all cabins and he returns to the couch still disorientated he is murdered by Elias via multiple stabbings from Elias' machete.

Paul and Ginny interrupted whilst making out by the power, Paul heads down to the main circuit breaker to restart all the power and Ginny discovers amongst his jacket the engagement ring. Ginny finds herself in a flustered panic confronting Paul about the ring as he returns claiming them to be too young. The power is cut a second time but upon inspection of the circuit breaker by Paul he discovers it to be destroyed by archery arrows. Paul in alarm calls for Ginny back at the top of the tower to radio the police but as she begins to she discovers the radio cords severed. Paul begins to ascend the watchtower ladder back to Ginny who peers back through the hatch to him and witnesses the bag headed Elias kill Paul with his machete via multiple stabbings to the back region, from the back of his heel to his back which results in Paul upon being pulled up into the watchtower with Ginny bleeding out to death in her arms. Ginny arms herself with a flare gun and begins to fire off shots at the incoming Elias. Ginny grasps onto Paul's hand and puts the engagement ring on as Elias brings the machete down upon her head. Following this Pamela Voorhees Elias' good willed, pregnant Catholic wife emerges from the woods having followed him and scolds him for having monstrously sinned. Elias threatens Pamela into aiding with the completion of the crime by bringing the body of Ned Sommers to the watchtower ladder, and upon tying him up against the wooden latter setting ablaze to the watchtower with gasoline and fiery archery arrows, as the fire engulfs the watchtower Ginny's ring slips off and tumbles down.

Four years later Pamela now has her four year old son Jason and is living unhappily with an even more unstable and violent alcoholic Elias. This culminates in Pamela after being further traumatised by Elias' abuse of her and Jason murders him in their church converted home with his machete whilst he is sleeping. She slits Elias' throat but witnesses him write around and not die as quickly as she had thought, she then pulls herself under their bed slowly and lodges the machete through the mattress and Elias' chest killing him. Jason witnesses and Pamela assures him that he was not a father, but a sinner who would of hurt him.

Pamela then acquires a job at the now re-opened Camp Crystal Lake as camp cook. The camp has been re-opened by couple David and Margaret Christie who has a baby son Steven. On Jason's birthday on Friday June 13th, 1984 Jason the victim of bullying by the other camp children for his facial deformities and mongolism, a result of Elias' abuse to Pamela whilst pregnant is thrown into the lake by the other children. As a result he drowns unable to swim and as the two teenage counsellors in charge of child watch Barry Townsend and Claudette Stevenson are preoccupied having sex for the first time whilst also trying cannabis for the first time. Pamela is broken by Jason's death and after raging at the Christies, Barry and Claudette departs into the woods as nightfalls, breaking down as she uncovers a dilapidated cabin belonging to the former counsellor training centre Packanack. The following day after the authorities close their investigation on the drowning of Jason Voorhees as an accident and inform the Christie's they were unable to locate his mother Pamela for questioning the death has been cited as an accident.
