Religious faith has played a major role in all Qirsyllvian societies throughout history. Worship of just one deity or several or none, and other beliefs, goes back to even before the dawn of Qirsyllvian civilizations.

Religions and their associated rites and rituals are often, but not always, formed and tied around a certain common myth or legend, which are usually centered around one or more legendary figures. This in mind, religions are either polytheistic, worshiping multiple deities; monotheistic, worshiping only one deity; or nonthiestic, worshiping no deity in general.

Individual religious devotion in all societies is, of course, on a spectrum, from devout adherents to those that just go through some of the motions by rote as a cultural norm without actually believing or practicing it. Moreover, some people are irreligious and privately don't believe in any gods or religious systems.

On the other hand, some are so devout to their faith to the point of pure fanaticism. Such zealotry in general is often preached against in most faiths, as it can lead to adherents to taking their faiths and beliefs too far should they interpret them in the most extreme ways.

Tolerance toward other religions and faiths is also on a spectrum, which can range from acceptance to intolerance. Some will openly accept, even appreciate, another faith (sometimes causing the lines between the faiths to blur and merge, leading to the creation of a syncretic faith), while others will view another religion with prejudice and hatred and view its very existence and practices as heresy.

Religious extremism combined with prejudiced intolerance toward other faiths almost always leads to conflict, and often war in the extreme cases.

Gadarudara[]

Gadarudara (Grandmother) is the goddess worshiped by the Nekcr'zii Amazons. Gadarudara is the divine protectress of the islands on which they live, and is believed to be the ancestress of their people.

One of the most noticeable practices is that Nekcr'zii Amazons of all ages and social standing, even royalty, bare their bellies at all times, covering them only when it's too cold. This practice stems from the belief that they are all descendants of Gadarudara and, while a physical umbilical cord are cut at birth, are connected to one another by a cosmic energy via an intangible cord, referred to as an "ubikani," which stretches endlessly and tangles but is only severed by the inevitable event of death. This leads to a funerary practice of covering the deceased's belly to signify that the ubikani has been cut for good, which also gave birth to the funerary phrase "The ubikani has been cut."

Other belief's about it is that having their belly rubbed by a close friend or loved one, kith or kin, or even someone of higher stature, brings good luck, to both the recipient and the rubber; this is especially observed often during a woman's pregnancy.

According to Paititian mythology, the two were the mortal founders of Paititi and both were deified upon their death. Mythology also claims that the ruling family of Paititi is descended from Tuligahal and a mortal woman known to history as Chelgasi.

Swyll'zhor & Ny'kith[]

Swyll'zhor & Ny'kith (3nhÍj¸k9N6 2ÈP 5ÌaT3) are a pair of deities worshiped as the sole god and goddess in Soleil, as well as by some Soleillien Gallique immigrants in Fuso.

Swyll'zhor, also known as the Lord of the Sun, is a solar deity. Ny'kith, also known as the Mother of the Moons, is the lunar deity. Followers of this faith believe that they watch over all during the day and night as they fly across the sky.

Worship of the pair allegedly goes back to when the peninsula was Salrin-dominated, and perhaps predates even the Garvine Empire. Many religiophilosiphers believe that the two were originally Salrin deities, but most modern Salrin religious authorities and experts repudiate this.

Whatever their origin, they were adopted by the Soleillien Kingdom as their god and goddess as they expanded, supplanting Septifidelity almost entirely.

Tritheistic Religions[]

Religions centered around the worship of three deities.

Trinity of Camelot[]

The Trinity of Camelot is an Albinese religion that revolves around the worship of three figures, two of which were mortal men before ascension to godhood. At the same time, they founded the Rioclyier Academy of Magic. Several decades after their deaths, the Rioclyier Republic fell apart due to what history remembers as the Great War of Magic, but the academy remains. Other Religions, Legends & Mythologies[]

Minor Religions & Mythologies[]

Some religions and churches are little known despite many followers, are just recently founded cults, or have few followers outside their place of origin. Most are simply not worshiped outside a confined region, usually where they were founded, or are just not extent enough to be counted amongst the major religions of the world.

Cult of El Dorado[]

El Dorado is a pagan golden deity worshiped by the Meridiño.

According to an old Meridiño myth, El Dorado was a Meridiño chieftain who foresaw the coming of an apocalypse in the form of a "falling star." When the falling star appeared in the sky, El Dorado coated himself in liquid gold and chanted a prayer. El Dorado glowed as bright as the sun and the star was repelled back into the sky. El Dorado ceased glowing, but he had sacrificed himself and was rendered a solid gold statue in the pose he maintained while chanting.

The pose of his statue then became the symbol of his worship. While public worship of him has long been suppressed by the Synkratic Church's dominance in the region, a hidden cult dedicated to him still persists.

The Ocean God[]

The Ocean God, popularly known as "Aequor," is a sea deity popular with seamen of all races. Followers believe that he creates all the natural phenomena that occurs at sea, storms, waves, maelstroms, etc. either to help them get to where they need to be, or to divert them because they're not meant to reach their destination.

Temple of Pleasure[]

The Temple of Pleasure is a minor sect that worships a sex and fertility goddess called "Syrilumei", who is often depicted as a nude, voluptuous, lascivious, and buxom woman. Followers of this faith consider sex to be a holy and life-affirming act that honors their goddess.

Pagan in origin, the Temple was originally founded in pre-colonial northern Nekcroz by a culture known to history as the Niicrukala people, but has since spread to most parts of the world. Regardless, the religion remains partially obscure, but it is a popular religion amongst prostitutes, and is therefore often introduced via brothels. It is not uncommon for such occupants to convert.

This religion is popular with succubi and incubi as well. Consequently, to those who don't know better, it is believed that Syrilumei is a deified succubus, but practitioners of the faith staunchly claim and believe otherwise.

The Sky God and the Ocean Goddess[]

The Sky God and the Ocean Goddess, better known by their proper names Leduo and Aymili respectively, are a pair a lover deities worshiped solely in the island Republic of Gargantia.

The myth claims that Leduo descended from the heavens after losing a fight to a superior and evil god (who is known by many names, but the popular one is Krugier), and Aymii nursed him back to health. Leduo eventually fell in love with Aymii and swore to protect her from any danger. Aymii fell in love with Leduo in return and worried that he will never return when he left to defeat the evil god for good, but Leduo prevailed and returned to Aymii's side.

Every year, festivals are held to commemorate the loving reunion of Leduo and Aymii.

It is believed that Leduo and Aymii left several children in the mortal world, and several people claim descent from them, but these claims are difficult to prove.

Followers of the faith believe that Leduo was a human while Aymii was a mermaid.

Heaven, the Underworld & Hell[]

The concepts of Heaven and Hell, the afterlife and damnation, are common beliefs across the world. It is universal belief that the Spirit World is made up of two or layers, and heaven and hell represent some of them. Almost all religious faiths speak of heaven and hell in some measure, and all believe that whichever one moves on to upon death is subject to a judgement by some higher power, particularly a specific god that represents the afterlife.

Heaven, the realm of the afterlife, is where people supposedly go when they have a good life.

Underworld & Hell[]

While also a physical place beneath the surface of Qirsyllviar, the spiritual concepts of the underworld and hell are often used interchangeably, and are sometimes confusingly believed to be one and the same, but it is most commonly believed that the underworld and hell are two layers of the same plane away from the world of the living, with hell considered lower than the underworld.

The Underworld, sometimes known as Limbo, is the realm of the dead, where the dead reside before judgement. Hell is the realm of the damned, where those who have committed grave sins in their life spend the rest of eternity. Some cultures describe Hell as a blazing inferno of fire and lava, while other sources describe it as a frigid frozen wasteland.

Those who have committed a grave sin in their life are usually condemned to eternity in Hell, the believed lower part of the underworld, or to simply remain in the underworld forever.

Some cultures and faiths have no concept of the underworld, only hell, and so refer to the underworld as limbo, or the ghostly plane, the netherworld, or the astral plane, where they await judgement before being sent on. Other cultures and faiths have no concept of hell, only the underworld, and so believe that the damned walk in the underworld for eternity, unable to move on to the afterlife.

The Underworld and Hell are known by many names in different cultures and religions, and are sometimes considered one and the same, or have no concept of one or the other.

Extinct Religions[]

Extinct religions are religious beliefs that are no longer practiced, but not necessarily forgotten.

List of extinct religions[]

  • Gallique Pantheon: The polytheistic Gallique Pantheon was the gods worshiped by the Gallique people before the introduction of Septifidelity.
  • Great Eagle: The Great Eagle was a deity worshiped by the Nekrc'zii culture before being combined with the Jadeites.
  • Salroka: The god worshiped by the Salrin people before the introduction of Septifidelity.
  • Zedylrian Pantheon: The polytheistic pantheon worshiped by the ancient Zedylri of the Zedylrian Empire, and, for a time, the successor states. The pantheon soon phased out of use as it was replaced by other religions, most notably Septifidelity. The Solramese who created the calendar used parts of names of several members of the pantheon as names of the months of the year. Aside for that one remaining mark, very few people remember what the names of the many deities were.

Notes & Trivia[]

  • Many people of many faiths have long believed Rings of Qirsyllviar to be the home of heavenly gods; other faiths have placed the home of the gods in more "earthly" locations.
  • With pantheons with multiple gods, a great many of the listed deities have cults dedicated to them, while still remaining under the umbrella of the main religion.
  • The deities of the vampiric pantheon are, naturally, vampires themselves.
  • Besides the Enneamagi, magic-users are also known to worship deities of magic from various other cultures/faiths.
  • Some of the listed religions are based on real world faiths:
    • The Ākalaʻpoʻe Pentheon is based on figures in the ancient Hawaiian religion. All listed deities were worshiped at one point or another.
  • Arcadia has a freedom of religion policy, one of few on Qirsyllviar, and the most prevalent religions are: Septifidelity (all denominations), Al-Haqiqa, Gnogtism, Laukik and Shantivad.
