Plot[]

A resting glimmering sunset and a dimmer sapphire sky shines over the terrain of Krypton: A planet with such promise and prestige on the verge of collapse.

For 100,000 years, Krypton was a race spread throughout the stars, seeking new worlds to explore and expand upon. For centuries to pass, their civilization flourished up until the very end. Following the establishment of artificial population control, the expansion of other planets was deemed unnecessary and any space outposts were abandoned, resulting in the residents of Krypton mining out of the core of their planet and exhausting their natural resources as a result.

As a result, their planet's core became unstable and their homeworld was mere moments away from collapsing. The only downside is nobody knew when.

Which wouldā€™ve been the worst possible time to ever think of conceiving a child and bringing them into the world.

Kara Zor-El (Chloe Grace Mortez) daughter of Zor-El (Christoph Waltz) and Alura In-Ze (Helen Slater) stood in a sci-fi looking hall hearing the screams of Lara while she's in labor with her husband Jor-El in with her encouraging her during the process.

Kara was impatiently pacing and worried for her Aunt.

Alura: Kara try to remain calm. Lara will be fine.

Kara: I hope so. This is the first natural birth Rao knows how long. Aunt Laura's life maybe hanging by a thread.

Zor-El: Be brave, my daughter. They know what they're doing.

Alura: Zor tell us again why your brother asked all of us here.

Zor-El: He wasn't specific. Ever since the planet's core was broke he's been jabbering building a new hope for race. He's even asked the council none stop for the codex.

Kara: We're all gonna die aren't we? Why can't we stop it like we stopped Darkseid when he invaded the planet.

Zor-El: Sometimes there are things we can't stop my daughter. Darkseid was only different cause he invaded but subdued by General Zod's army. This....is just another natural cause.

Kara faced down in disbelief and soon Laura's screams ceased and baby cries were heard which Kara turned to in silence, a tear falling from her left eye.

And not a moment too soon his brother Jor-El (Russell Rowe) came out approaching them.

Zor-El: Brother.....how is she?

Jor-El: She's alright. Kara....why don't you go in to see Lara and your newborn cousin. I have to talk to your parents about something.

Kara nods and walks passed him with Jor turning to his brother and sister in-law.

Zor-El: Something wrong Brother?

Jor-El: As you are aware....Krypton's time is fast approaching. I still haven't been able to claim the Codex yet. But....when I do.....there will be time.....where you will have to tell Kara something important.

Alura: How Important?

While that was taking place Kara came into Jor-El's lab with Laura (Ayelet Zurer) still laying on the table holding her newborn son barely minutes old and Kara was both touched and amazed.

Lara soon happened to notice Kara walking in.

Lara: Kara come in.

She approached her cautiously and as she got closer she had a closer look at her new born cousin Kal-El.

Kara covers her mouth in awe.

Kara: Ohh....he's precious.

Lara: His name is Kal....and our hopes will be within him.

Kara reached down and rubbed Kal-El's baby cheek and he let out a soft coo and Kara grew a grin.

Kara: Can I?

Lara: Of course mind his head.

Lara slowly handed baby Kal to his cousin's hands and she lifted him closely at her face.

Kara: Hello Kal. Hi....

They both smiled at him as his eyes slightly opened letting out a yawn with a coo but this moment of joy was destined to be short lived.

~One Kryptonian month later~

Time had run out.

Jor-El had traveled to Kandor on his pet H'Raka, standing in front of the Kryptonian Law Council and warning them the planet is about to collapse because of the council's decision to harvest the planet's core to serve their civilization's depleted energy reserves. They dismiss his claims but before Jor-El can do anything else, General Zod overthrows the council in a violent coup, instigating a civil war.

Luckily, he and Laura placed Kal in a spaceship with a stolen Growth Codex in hopes of sending him to Earth.

Jor-Elā€™s efforts did not go far as Zod uncovered his plan. A fight ensues, with Zod stabbing and killing Jor, while Lara launches Kal-El's ship to Earth. The ship was safely escaping Krypton's atmosphere while the Sapphire Guards intercepted the coup's forces and arrested Zod.

The World Engine Kryptonian ship now hovers above the court where inside, the councilmen were giving out their sentence upon the likes of General Dru-Zod (Michael Shannon) and his renegades, following the recent murder of Jor-El.

Councilman: General Zod......

Looking down upon him.......

Councilman:.....for the crimes of murder and high treason, the Council has sentenced you and your fellow Insurgents......to three hundred cycles of somatic reconditioning.

Which was a fancy way of saying: imprisonment in the Phantom Zone.

Councilman: Do you have any last words?

Nothing about this punishment made Zod more understandably frustrated than everything else but he doesnā€™t decide to lash out about it until the last possible minute, getting into the councilmanā€™s face, forcing the guards to hold him back; handcuffed and all.

Zod: YOU wonā€™t kill us yourself! You wouldnā€™t sully your hands but youā€™ll damn US to a black hole for eternity!

He spits in his face.

Zod: Jor-El was right: Youā€™re a pack of fools; every LAST one of you.

Just before he was about to turn back, Zod turns his attention to Lara.

Zod: And you.......You believe your son is safe?

He gets no answer from Lara; just a blank stare.

Zod: I will find him, Lara. I WILL reclaim what you have taken from us. I WILL FIND HIM!

Making his ā€œfinal wordsā€ and his intentions clear upon his sentencing, nothing was going to change Zodā€™s mind. Not this would affect the Councilmen or even Lara. They had already made up their mind.

The same cannot be said for the one outside eavesdropping over the entire situation.

Kara Zor-El had been perched up against the outside of the Main Council briefly looking back at the former war general and his allies being encased and confined in an unknown material before the strange sarcophagi were sent up to the ship above.

Not much can be said about how she took it because, in the back of her mind, all she was thinking about that was ā€œGood Riddance.ā€ But that mattered little considering the eventual aftermath to come with the planet soon to erupt. Having done her eavesdropping, she does NOT get too far before being startled and surprised, getting her arm grabbed by her mother Alura within getting a foot away from the High Law Council.

Her mother wasnā€™t mad. She looked just as terrified and mortified as her daughter was coming off the situation.

Kara: Mother?

Alura: Now is not the time. Come with me, Kara, and stay close.

Quickly moving efficiently and with a purpose, she takes her daughter by the arm and brings her with her just as Kara looks back up at the Kryptonian World Engine ship blasting off, taking Zod and his allies in captivity to be taken into the Phantom Zone.

At least thatā€™s one crisis averted.

But the other was far from preventable. And believe me, Kara tried to explain that to her mother when they arrived at her ā€œworkshop", meeting with her father there.

Alura: Iā€™m telling you; youā€™ll thank me for this later.

Kara: But what are youā€”theseā€”we canā€™t stay here. You remember what happened to Argo City months ago? Sucked, beamed up, devoured. Now itā€™s gone. Millions of people.

Alura: Believe me, that was only the beginning.

Kara: Theā€”whatā€™s happened?

Zor-El: Our time's run out; weā€™ve finally exhausted our natural resources for as much as we could and itā€™s destabilized the planet's core. Krypton wonā€™t hold together much longer.

Kara: But all of your research; isnā€™t there something we could do?

The panicking tone in her voice was all the more evident to the current predicament they were in at the moment but luckily for them, there was a way out.

The only issue is there would be no turning back from this, as both mother and father glance at each other and back to her.

Alura: Thatā€™s why weā€™re here.

Finally making it to her separate chamber, both doors peel open automatically as they go inside and Alura leaves Kara to look around and get a first person perspective of literally all that her mother had worked on. Her mother, being a scientist just like Jor-El, had no issue showcasing the latest of her trinkets and tools and SOME of her latest Kryptonian projects.

One that she didnā€™t bother hiding in plain sight was one literally right above Karaā€™s head: a spaceship.

Kara: Spaceship?

Alura: Your uncle Jor-El told me of a planet that can sustain Kryptonian life. I had to make a ship like this just for your cousin Kal.

The mentioning of her cousin rose questions.

Kara: Kal? Heā€™sā€”heā€™s still just a baby.

Zor-El: Which is why youā€™ll need to protect him. Teach him our ways.

The confusion came over her. While she wasnā€™t necessarily terrible at watching over her younger cousin, she still had a lot more to learn so the fact that her parents were telling her this, at the last second no less, was more or less a final confirmation that this was made to be permanent as of now on.

One Kara didnā€™t catch until a few seconds later.

Kara: Me teach him? What about you?

The look on her motherā€™s face, following that statement, was more heartbreaking than any other words could ever do. She practically knew what that meant next and from the looks of it, she was near to the point of tears already.

Her father exchanged the same look out towards her; one of disappointment and sorrow.

Kara: No.....No. No. No, I won't leave you! Please, please don't make me!

Alura: We canā€™t come with you. But youā€™ll never be alone.

Kara: How will Iā€”

Alura: You belong to the house of El, Kara. A house of Hope. Just know that there will be no correct path in life. You will lose your way many times.

Zor-El: Whatā€™s important is that you find your way back to the brave girl you always were. Be wise, be strong and always be true to yourself.

Kara might as well be having a nightmare right now. Every childā€™s worst nightmare is to have to lose the ones they care about but she didnā€™t think it would be this soon.

Taking a few mild steps back onto the platform to let the information sink in, Kara just couldnā€™t resist hugging her mother and father in tears, coming to the realization that this would be the last time seeing one another.

Alura: Never forget that. Never lose hope.

Seeing how she was already on the platform, not much work needed to be done from there. Moving slowly away from the platform with Kara standing directly below the Starcraft ship, Alura eased over to the panel, not taking her eyes off her daughter for a single second as she pressed down on it, turning off the anti-gravity.

She hardly noticed it yet.....

Kara: But wheā€”Wait, where am I going?

Zor-El: Starcraft will lead you there. After that, the choice is up to you.

It took Kara seconds to realize she was actually being beamed up into Starcraft. By the time she did though, it was too little, too late.

Kara: I canā€™tā€”wait, what are youā€”NO!

Beamed up into the rear end of the Starcraft, the ship's outer shells wrapped around the pod exit with the House Of El symbol over the outer shells. With the ship being topsy turvy, Alura had to use the panels to flip the Starcraft right-side up so the thrusters were facing down opposite of the platform.

All that was left was to blast off.

Lady Alura, phantom drives are coming online.

Alura: Proceed to ignition.

Pressing down on the ignition button, the thrusters from the back of the Starcraft were boosted by the ion drive, creating an electronic propulsion and accelerating positive ions with electricity, leaving a giant gust of smoke in its wake. It blinds Alura and Zor-El momentarily as the Starcraft gained elevation and blasted off. Kara could feel the vibration through the inside as she once again tried to keep herself in check.

Her tears had all been dried up at this point but the notion that sheā€™d never see her mother or father again was too much for her to bear.

Luckily, a brief little liquidized portable screen near the front booms light in front of her face turning her attention to it. The sight she sees on the screen gives her some reason to cheer up as she sees another Starcraft miles ahead of her currently on the trajectory path to Earth. Knowing that Kal was in there gave her some pause for thought overshadowed by joy.

She wouldnā€™t be alone.

But still, it wouldnā€™t be easy for her.

Kara: Hold on, Kara. Hold on......

No sooner does she say that, than the Phantom Drive activates, opening a portal through which the starcraft disappears and phase through the burning sapphire skies, exiting the atmosphere of the dying planet.

For both Zor-El and Alura, this wasnā€™t a simple task.

It wasnā€™t all that easy for Lara either.

Losing her husband, and having to give up her son, it couldnā€™t have been harder than it had to be if she had aborted the launch like Zod had told her earlier. But her choice had already been made up. Her fate was all but certain.

Glancing at her late husband's battle armor for one last time before sealing it away, all Lara takes is one look outside the window to get a glimpse of the impending doom vastly approaching.

Lady Lara, shouldnā€™t you find refuge?

Lara: There is no refuge, Kelor. Jor-El was right: This is the end.

Having to look out the window to the sight of instantaneous death fast approaching, pits of lava and ruptured earth split through the surface of Krypton, inching its way closer and closer throughout the terrain. Hard to be optimistic at a time like this when it really was the end but Lara knew she had made the right choice to let her son live.

Anything to let him continue Krypton's legacy.

Lara: Make a better world than ours, Kal.

As the pits combust through one another and quickly spread throughout the area, another out of lava bursts through the window to completely drown and cover Lara in a blanket of ash and fire, causing the House Of El to explode and killing her instantly.

No sooner does that happen does the core of Krypton collapse entirely and the planet combusts, exploding in an INSTANT FLASH of light and destruction. Unfortunately for Kara, her Starcraft barely being caught in the explosion's blast radius was enough to drive her off course.

She couldnā€™t see anything from the inside but she could feel her trajectory being shifted and pulled way off course, leaving her shooting off through the never-ending vacuum of space away from the current path of her cousin's Starcraft.....

.....almost guaranteed to be lost forever.

Kal! No! No, please! KAL!
