California Rainforest Map

The range of the California Rainforest.

The California Rainforest is a vast tropical rainforest located from Northern California all the way to Southern California. It is one of the world's largest rainforests, along with the Amazon Rainforest of Brazil, South America. It is home to almost as much species as there were many species in the Amazon Rainforest during the Late Pleistocene. Despite being mostly rainforest, there are few cities and other man-made residence in California including San Diego, Los Angeles, Aneihem, Fontana, Vallejo, Valencia, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Long Beach, Montery Bay, Oakland, San Fransisco, Folsom, Sacremento, Oroville, Chico, Gridley, Biggs, Linda, Olivehurst, Live Oak, Plumas Lake, Wheatland, Brownsville, Beale Air Force Base, Yuba City, and Marysville, where, even in these places, wildlife of all kinds are protected.

  • California manatee (It is a subspecies of West Indian manatee that is native to much of the rivers and lakes of California)
  • Northern river dolphin (It is a subspecies of Amazon river dolphin that evolved from the same ancestors as other Amazon river dolphins, but they had spread into North America and into California, where they still live on)
  • California tapir (This species of tapir survived due to more lush rainforests for it to flourish in, allowing its further survival into modern times)
  • Stout llama (This species of camelid survived due to more lush rainforests for it to flourish in, allowing its further survival into modern times)
  • California pronghorn (It is the only surviving member of the genus, Tetrameryx, and its ancestors had adapted to California's rainforests)
